School day #??!!!! Happy Monday again all! Happy belated Mother’s Day to all you Mothers out there! I had to take this version of vogue 1239 out for another spin. It is made from a gorgeous poly blend fabric from @fishmansfabrics. It looks just like silk dupioni but doesn’t wrinkle and is machine washable! I put about 40 hours of labor into this dress this past fall to wear it for the holidays. I sewed the smallest size (6 I think) because the pattern has a lot of ease. I had to add back in about 1/2 inch at the center back seam since it was a little snug through the shoulders. Additionally I added interfacing inside the front edge of the dress as I had a bit of issue with buckling of this slightly stretchy fabric after I top stitched the edge. I lined it with purple china silk lining and top stitched with a deep purple to match the lining. This dress is not difficult as pattern instructions are impeccable, but all the top stitching takes forever as do the pattern markings for the origami-like sleeves. Well hello there 💕 My first sewing make of the year is this #vogue1239 Chado Ralph Rucci dress. It doesn’t look that complicated from the photos, just a simple wrap dress… but no! You would be very wrong, in fact this is an advance pattern and it really was! Roughly 15 pattern pieces (plus full lining) as you can see from the line drawings photo, and its structural lines and design is absolutely sublime. 💕 I really took my time and it took roughly a month to make this. I made an error though, the fabric should have been stiffer, I used a chambray and it is too soft which meant an awful lot of interfacing to strengthen that front opening and collar. Utter foolery on my part! 🤪 you learn from these mistakes apparently, and one day I might just actually do that!! 😅 So I reckon I have achieved some skills already this year and this really did stretch those brain cells. I am thrilled with it. I intend to make another one if I come across the correct fabric or fabrics (two tone would showcase those design lines). Fingers crossed 🤞 if you want a project to get your teeth into. The Ralph Rucci dress can’t be worn with makeup (except for eye and lip), because the white collar touches the face. I feel this dress has a blend of everything I love. I can see Victoria Beckham wearing it because it’s modern. Yet, it has kind of a vintage silhouette with a nipped waist. (Think Charles James or a hint of Dior). Yes, it’s western, but then there’s an Asian influence because the belt hints at a kimono. Mind blown! What are you doing to us, RR? . . . Usually people stop me to pet my puppy but tonight, a woman ran across the street to tell me she loved my dress. To jeszcze nie jest gotowa sukienka, ale na horyzoncie widać już niemalże koniec. Pomyślałam więc, a co tam, zacznę się już chwalić, ale i podzielę rozterkami (no jasne, że mi cały czas towarzyszą), to może gdzieś po drodze mnie olśni, jak to drzewiej bywało, i jeszcze dziś skończę.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Do skopiowania szablonu podchodziłam z miesiąc, bo musiałam go nieco wydłużyć, a że jest pokręcony jak świński ogonek, to na poczatku wydawało się, że to będzie karkołomne zadanie. Szycie zaś postanowiłam sobie dawkować z obawy, że na fali zbytniego entuzjazmu tak mnie poniesie, że dotrę tam, skąd nie będzie już odwrotu. Tak z perspektywy sobie patrząc, myślę, że to było całkiem słuszne działanie. O tym jednak innym razem.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Od początku moim założeniem było, że będzie to sukienka bez podszewki (choć model zaprojektowany jest do uszycia z podszewką. Chciałam jednak, żeby sukienka była bardziej swobodna i przewiewna, stąd taki plan. No i żeby te rękawy z tyłu nie były takie ogromne. I o ile na początlu pomysł wydawał mi się spoko, to teraz utknęłam.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Zastanawiam się bowiem, jak wykończyć dół (tam są doszywane dwa pasy dookoła spódnicy). Czy odszyć je tą samą tkaniną, czy może białą popeliną, bo wzór może przebijać na prawą stronę? A może podszewką? Jeden pas czy oba? Dodam tylko, że przody i doły rękawów będą wykończone odszyciami z tej samej tkaniny. Ale przody będą podklejone, więc ryzyko przebijania wzoru jakby mniejsze. Sama nie wiem 🙈...⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Ps. Сшито уже несколько лет назад ( в 2015 или 2016 г.), но продолжаю носить как самое удобное и практичное (если не считать времени на утюжку). Ткань — тонкий репс из вискозы с хлопком и эластаном, тончайшая подкладка из купры. Для удлинения добавляла еще один притачной ярус юбки. Это было моим первым изделием, сшитым по выкройке с припусками, со специальной лапкой очень удобно и быстро шить. С тех пор предпочитаю именно такие выкройки, хорошо, что современные сервисы предлагают такой формат.   #voguepatterns

#v1239 Calls for a nice poplin or taffeta. So I’m going to use a heavy cotton blend upholstery fabric (THAT I JUST LOVE 💙💙) because I don’t know how to follow directions. I purchased this fabric 10 years ago, I found 2 yards one week and 2 yards another week. It was FATE! This pattern need like almost 5 yards so maybe this will become a short coat?!?!!! 😬😬😬

Today I thought I would share with you some more patterns that fall into three categories: ● Favorite of all time patterns ● Favorite “easy but looks glam” pattern ● Favorite “most proud but darned scary to make” pattern Let’s discuss my favorite patterns of all time (so far anyway–@carlosvoguepatterns always has more Vogue patterns I covet!!). Because I couldn’t decide on just one, I had to showcase the amazing #v1802, #v1239 and #v9253. All the details about these makes are in my grid. My favorite “easy but looks glam” pattern is #m7983. I have played around with the zipper on the front and back. The fit is spot on without much adjusting (which is rare for me!). I get compliments every time I wear one of these skirts. I have made two with faux leather, one with denim (and a cool zipper twist) and one with a leftover scrap of wool/cashmere blend. My favorite “most proud but darned scary to make” pattern has to be #v9192. Swimwear was definitely a white whale for me, and I am SO glad I tackled these two a few summers ago. I read MANY blogs before starting and purchased lots of specialty supplies (cotton elastic, hardware, wooly nylon thread for my serger among others). I have lots of leftover fabric, so I will be making another swimsuit someday soon! More soon! @kbb_couture

One of the first patterns I’ve ever purchased was this one by #ralphrucci, a gorgeous wrap dress. Swipe 👉 to see the lines. I see hints of Charles James meets Japanese zen. The unusual seams are sculpted around the body and are impeccable. . . I never understood what “Chado” meant, but when I found out it’s a term that comes from a Japanese tea ceremony “noted for its attention to detail, exactitude, sense of austere style, and expertise on the part of the practitioner,” Chado is the perfect word to describe Ralph Rucci. I have a heavy book on Ralph Rucci that gave me insight as to who he is as a man, how he works, and how he thinks. He’s worldly, cultured, intellectual, refined, and his clothes are merely a reflection of his inner world. I am so proud that he was an American who climbed to the level of showing his Haute Couture collections in Paris during his brilliant career. . . I’ve made one other Ralph Rucci dress, this will be my second one.
