Clueless meets McCardell. This was one of those must-have fabric buys when it appeared in my email from @tessutifabrics. A cotton seersucker with a print reminiscent of that iconic tartan. I considered lots of different patterns until I stumble upon #V1795 (previously #v9293) with its interesting design lines and cute waist tie. After I made it I realised how similar in overall look it is to Claire McCardell’s popover dress. Different construction but enough of a nod to win me over. Naturally I made it more complicated by lining the bodice (cotton voile) and skirt (silk cotton). Otherwise it was a fun make. Love this dress… I really do. I have worn it quite a few times and yet never photographed it (??). It’s #v9293 or #v1795 (same pattern) and was so fun to make! I actually thought I was doing well matching plaid til I realized I cut the skirt panels in opposite directions- oops! Just don’t care! . Last night I had the honor of delivering a speech in honor of JRR Tolkien at a feast that my dear friends host every January 1 in honor of the good professor’s birthday. When Bob asked me at last year’s feast, I started dreaming about the dress that I’d make to give the speech. I fell in love with this Rifle Paper Co fabric; the flowers remind me of the elanor of Lothlorien. And I love the bodice and the pockets of this dress pattern. I sewed this dress last week. I’m very pleased with the final product, and I’m planning to wear it again as my Easter dress in a few months. The only modifications that I made to the dress were shortening the skirt by about four inches and tacking down the pockets.
