Well my coat is finally finished! This is @mccallpatterncompany #v9133 made in a Lady McElroy wool coating fabric given to me by @minervadotcom in exchange for a blog post, which is now live on their website. . . . . I turned this blazer pattern into a winter coat by adding a silk lining and sewing horsehair canvas into the facings (this was purchased from @williamgee_uk ). . . I made this Vogue #V9133 cotton jacquard coat last year, but unfortunately I didn’t wear it! The style is boxy and very broad at the shoulders, which doesn’t suit my figure. It’s also an unlined coat pattern, but I felt it needed a lining to give it a more luxurious feel. The plus side of the eternal winter of the Midwest is that my Vogue 9133 coat is getting plenty of use 🧥 This unlined beauty was my first coat ever! Made with a camel wool from @ebay, I sewed view A in a Medium. I lengthened by a few inches but forgot to raise the pockets. Whoops. My proudest feature is how even the collar is- I mean look at that baby! I attempted to take some volume out of the sleeve caps because they were supposed to have a shoulder pad, but that was a bit of a hack job. Quilt vest! I decided to make this quilt vest as a garment I could wear to work during an upcoming in-person meeting. I used the Vouge #v9133 view A. I think it turned out well! I made this coat what feels like forever ago, but I finally got decent pictures of it today. It’s a simple unlined wool coat made with fabric I bought @promenadefabrics when I was visiting New Orleans in April. It’s the yummiest, softest micro check wool. I used vogue pattern #v9133 and the only change I made was to add about 8” of length. It’s intended to be unlined, which simplifies making a coat by a whole lot but I wanted the inside to look as nice as the out so I did Hong Kong seams and bound each side of the seam allowance with a bright happy cotton bias tape. Added a bunch of time to making the coat, but it was definitely worth the effort. It’s a great coat that can be dressed up or worn with joggers and sneakers. Maybe I won’t dislike winter as much now that I have this. Maybe.

Are you planning any slow sewing projects over Christmas? I think I might have a go at this simple, classic Vogue pattern in our grey geo print wool mix coating fabric (swipe to view). The simple lines should show the print off beautifully and it seems like a nice first step into the world of coat or jacket making (my MIL who co-founded the business with my Husband is the real expert in this department!) I also love the understated check boucle fabric on the third image, but it wouldn’t be as cosy as the wool mix. I always have these grand plans and imagine aeons of time then in reality I blink and I’m back at work having achieved not a lot!
