For Christmas I made my guy a new outfit, including this linen shirt. He made the design choices (mandarin collar, one curved patch pocket) and picked the buttons. Pattern is Vogue V1895, using just the collar stand and omitting the pocket flap. The shirt has a lot of ease so I sized down two sizes from what his chest measurement suggested (probably should have done just one). The second half of the Christmas outfit is a pair of dressy(ish) shorts. These are made with cotton twill. The pattern is Vogue pattern V1895 (same as the shirt in the previous post). No alterations. I tried adding rivets from a closet core jeans kit. I had limited success, and ruined most of the rivets by trying to hammer onto a wooden cutting board. Once I started hammering onto metal, it worked just fine. I used the back side of some rivets for leatherworking to match so the shorts didn’t end up uneven! A new shirt made for my darling husband! I made it for a birthday gift for him, also just because I like making clothes and he could use more causal shirts in his wardrobe. This version is a recent pattern release from Vogue Patterns by @mccallpatterncompany #v1895 described as a pop-over, semi fitted men’s shirt with front placket, with a front pocket with a buttoned flap and a little hanging loop at the back. I made it in a black cotton broadcloth purchased @millendstore and buttons from @joann_stores. It was a great shirt to make, fairly easy to sew, and something different than an everyday shirt for him to wear. V1895 has some interesting design lines, and I want to be sure the fit and proportions are right before committing to my final fabric. A toile helps me: ✔️ Check fit & make adjustments ✔️ Test construction techniques ✔️ Avoid costly mistakes with expensive fabric Also because I do mi e in white fabric, I can write on the finished garment if I need to take it in anywhere . Working with Vogue V1895! ✂️ As always, I traced out my pattern first—I just find it easier to work with. Eagle-eyed viewers might notice that I added some extra length to the legs. At 6 feet tall (and pretty leggy!), I knew I’d need the extra length. Just imagine if I was in heels!
