New outfit in full glory 😁 Super happy with how the pants turned out! The details worked out just as I hoped 😃 The #mnash pattern definitely is my to-go-to pattern when sewing jeans. I’ve perfected the fit over the years and I have learned how to change the pattern when working with more or less stretchy fabrics. This fabric has less stretch than the pattern suggests so I made the jeans one size bigger. Worked like a charm 😁🙌🏻 The fabric I used is an organic cotton jeans with a bit of stretch that I bought from @frau_tulpe_stoffe when I was in Berlin for work. Now about the top. It’s a vogue pattern #v1923 that I first saw at @kindred.red and I just loved it!! Also @theravelout made a gorgeous version. The top looks fantastic, but it doesn’t feel fantastic unfortunately 🤷🏼‍♀️☹️ The fabric is too tight around the shoulders. Swipe for a video to see it moving up when I move my shoulders. I used a beautiful stretchy velvet dead stock Dries van Noten fabric that I bought @thefabricsales But it was just not stretchy enough I’m afraid…. Hopefully it will stretch out a bit more after wearing. Based on my freshly-sewn bodysuit’s vibes, it shouldn’t surprise you to learn that I love ice skating and gymnastics. I did both as a kid, though I was awful because I am clumsy and accident-prone. What a combo! 🤩 Ever broken a pinkie toe so many times it has a new joint that bends sideways? I have! But that won’t stop me from dressing like one of those athletes. ⛸️🤸‍♀️ #v1923 is the first bodysuit I’ve sewn, plus my first time working with a velvety nap. It actually…wasn’t hard!? Probably because velour is stretchy and therefore more forgiving. The hardest part was choosing which direction to place the nap/pile, and I went with 🆙 because the orchid color was prettier and much more saturated. This was a hot debate in my DMs a few weeks ago 😜 I was inspired to buy this fabric by a similarly-colored orchid pink / purple velvet blouse by Samantha Pleet from 2021. It actually inspired my yarn colorway “Velvet” too! After wearing for a little bit, I may convert this bodysuit into a top, just because the crotch length is wayyy too short, so the snaps don’t fall in a good place to access easily. ——— Details: Pattern: @carlosvoguepatterns Vogue #v1923 size 20 graded to size 26 butt Fabric: bamboo & cotton velour in “Orchid” from @naturesfabrics Skirt: it’s an old slip! Pattern mods: -reduced the sleeve seams due to bagginess, starting at mid-bicep down to wrist. Total of 3” removed at the wrist. Needs more… -added more hip and butt coverage, about 2.5” fuller coverage than the largest size (26) -added 1.5” to the back crotch length. Needs more like 4” so the snaps are easy to do from the front, not the center of the crotch. -added some tacking in a few areas to keep the shoulder folds in place

The 2nd Annual @southfloridafrocktails was this past weekend, and it was so much fun! It's a night where the sewing community dresses up, gets together, and has a night of dancing, prizes, and making new sewing friends. (And reconnecting with old ones too!) I barely took any photos all night, so a big thanks goes to @pinupmiami for getting this photo of me! The theme for this year's party was "Masquerade", so my mind immediately went to "texture!" and "lace!" when deciding on my outfit. Luckily I had this gorgeous teal crushed velvet bodysuit already cut and in my UFO pile, so I formed my look around that. My original plans involved a lace skirt , but i ended up not loving the two fabrics together. At the last moment I decided to instead go with this tulle skirt from a few years ago. I sewed up Vogue 1923 for my final Valentine’s Day lewk! 💕I fell in love with this top as soon as it dropped so I made a sew along and it’s LIVE today! After seeing the beautiful top that Sylvia @theravelout made from this Vogue #V1923 pattern, I decided to “panic sew”* one for myself (*in my case, a project impulsively started and completed shortly before leaving on a trip). I made it as a bodysuit as instructed by the pattern but changed the way it was finished at the bottom—I used elastic for the leg openings and finished the overlapping ends with folded pieces of broadcloth to which I applied KAMsnaps. . Before attaching the gathered crossover neck pieces to the main layer of the bodysuit, I took it in at the top of the shoulder seams so that the neckline sits higher on my shoulders which gives more options for undergarments. I’m wearing this over my comfy Simplicity 8560 sports top (View C with the shoulder straps pushed slightly outwards; the criss-crossed back straps somehow keep it in place). . I used a cotton jersey in a colour aptly described as “daffodil sunshine” from @oursocialfabric. The gathered seams are stabilized with cotton twill tape. I had the pattern and the fabric but one problem, not enough fabric! I did get lucky as it was still available online! Whew! I made Vogue 1923 (which is a bodysuit pattern) and went with the size 16 based on the finished measurements. I added 1” to the length, my usual adjustment for long waist. The body suit was so long, much more than the one inch I added. I decided to just cut it off at the high leg. Also, my fabric choice might be a bit too heavy, the tip didn’t want to stay at my shoulders. My solution… to use tape! I love my new top, different look for me but I know I will love wearing it this summer.
