I really wanted to have a white shirt style beach cover-up for this summer and I’ve also had my eye on the Vogue 1933 pattern (with button- up cape like sleeves) for quite a while now as well, so decided to combine the two things - and have to say I’m really pleased with the result. Although the pattern is designed to be a very dramatic and dressy shirt dress, I made a few modifications, to make it a bit more casual and beach wear oriented for holiday wear, mainly by simplifying the sleeve’s construction. The fabric is embroidered 100% white cotton and really comfortable to sew with and wear. Both the fabric and buttons came from @trurofabrics who also sell Vogue Sewing Patterns. Modifications made: Were to remove the pleats from the sleeves (just because I don’t want to press in pleats on a holiday cover-up), plus I shortened the sleeves a couple of inches and closed the sleeve seam, leaving a normal size opening above the cuff. Inspirada en la primera camiseta que utilizó el equipo de Liniers con la V, en el año 1933, la marca italiana de indumentaria deportiva lanza una cápsula que incluye una campera, un buzo y una remera. Vélez vistió, por primera vez, este modelo el domingo 30 de abril de 1933, recibiendo a San Lorenzo en el viejo Fortín de la calle Basualdo, por la octava fecha del campeonato de Primera A. Empataron 1 a 1, pero la gran novedad esa tarde fueron esas casacas blancas con la V azul. Esas camisetas se las había encargado un nuevo equipo de rugby a un fabricante del barrio de Liniers. Pero nunca las retiraron, entonces el comerciante se las ofreció a los directivos velezanos. A partir de ahí se convirtió en la casaca más representativa de Vélez. I was quite excited when I saw Vogue 1933 from the spring release: a sleek new style with ample coverage and some interesting details. I bought it as soon as it became available in the UK and acquired some navy cotton from Croft Mill to make it up. It’s quite a dark navy and has a bit of a sheen to it. I changed the front opening to an hidden button placket to match the sleeve openings and added two extra buttons.The original front opening wasn’t indecent but it wasn’t safe for work. I also reduced the length of the side splits and added inseam pockets. The chest pocket is a nice visual detail, but that’s all it is, I’m not stashing a phone or keys in there. This dress has an impressive amount of swish as you move. It also runs long. I made my usual length adjustments and then when I tried it on after sewing the shoulder seams I took it up 3cm. I wish I’d done a bit more. I’m wearing it with some hefty platforms in these photos but I normally go for something a bit closer to the ground. It must be designed for wearing with heels. It feels very glamorous to wear and I appreciate the sun coverage. Might be a while before I make another though as it was a lot of buttonholes and buttons. Me Made May Day 19 - Just back from my holibobs and although made very recently, this has to be my most worn holiday garment! I really wanted to have an oversized white shirt to wear as beach cover-up and opted for the Vogue 1933 pattern as my basic shape. Although the sleeves are designed to be very dramatic, I modified mine and removed the pleats to make it easier to hand wash and wear as a holiday garment. #nycfrocktails2023 Loved the 70s Studio54 disco theme! Everyone looked so amazing in the garments they made. The food, drinks and venue was perfect! Thank you @stylesinseams and the @nycfrocktails committee! Most of all, I enjoyed seeing and meeting my sew friends in person! 🥰 Also, made some new sew friends too! I have to give a special thanks to @needleandthebelle for taking these amazing photos! I love your energy and vibe…. it definitely brought me out my shell 🥰 Now on to my outfit I made….I had so many ideas in mind and my goal was to make something that fits the theme and that I can style later in other ways. With that in mind, I found the perfect fabric with designs giving a 70s look and feel and I chose the Vogue dress pattern V1933 with the open cape-like sleeves that can also be buttoned up. I lined the open sleeves with a burnt orange satin to bring out that color in the fabric.
