Buckle in people, strong opinions incoming… What a s@%t show this pattern is. 100% do not recommend. I was a straight size 14 bodice and when I made my (first) toile it became very evident that there was something VERY wrong (fourth photo). So much extra fabric. So ill-fitting. I called in expert help and after THREE toiles and multiple alterations here is my version (toile 3 fifth photo). Sizing down would not have been sufficient. This is easily the worst pattern I have ever used and I certainly expected more from a big 4 company. It’s made worse because I recently made a dress with similar tucks and it was beautifully graded with great instructions. It would definitely have been easier to start from scratch than hack away at this badly fitted thing. The only thing that made me persist was the excellent help I got from Michelle and my hardwired stubbornness. Modifications: Completely new self drafted facing and lining for front and back. See photo 7 for front lining (original piece behind them for comparison) Raised the side seam by 1/2”, brought the side seam in by 1/2”, tucks all 1/2” longer. Shortened, reangled and scooped out front piece on both edges. Removed a 2cm wedge of fabric from the back tuck, made front and back pieces 2cm longer. Added fusible interfacing to zips, pockets, facing and sew in interfacing to the front piece. Attached the skirt lining to the dress (this is not mentioned in the instructions). Shortened the lining so it doesn’t poke out. Here is my latest @minervadotcom ambassador make. It’s another Vogue 1883. I loved this pattern so much that I wanted to make one in a different fabric and when the New Minerva exclusive butterfly fancy crepe back satin arrived I knew that was the pattern for it. Its a beautiful fabric with a nice weight but still has a good drape to it. The design is fuchsia and turquoise on a dark navy background and I love it. Its given a different take on this dress than my last which was cotton sateen, I feel it be perfect for a summer party or a wedding. The dress itself has a flare skirt, front and back pleated bodice and a criss cross halter neck which took me a while to fathom out and i omitted the lining on the skirt this time.Apart from figuring out the crossover neck the dress was a pretty easy make. First post on my new account! This year I set the goal to get back into my sewing hobby. I always loved it and I learnt my basics in high school. However over the years I didn't have either the time or space to take it further. Now I do 😁 Here I'll document my journey and all the lessons I learnt. My #makenine2023 update! I am really proud of my sewing progress this year and I tackled a bunch of the projects I set out to complete. I canned two projects throughout the year. I started and made most of the vogue #v1883 dress to wear to my sisters wedding but it was a fitting nightmare and I decided I wanted to spend my sewing time making other things so I canned it! I have also canned the Cameron button up and I’m carrying over the swimmers and dress for the girls to 2024! 💃

With moments to spare before the party I managed to get the #v1883 finished in time 🎉 Had the best time at the @sew_with_holly Christmas Party and loved seeing everyone’s makes on the catwalk 🥰 💫This pattern is the @simplicitymccallsuk #V1883 in a blue velvet polyester mix. @simplicity_creative_group 💫This dress is fully lined with an invisible zip. 💫I made the skirt and waistband in a size bigger than the bodice and I eased out the two pleats in the back bodice to fit the waistband. 💫Next time I would make the two front panels wider to cover more of my chest at the side and use a walking foot when I sewed up the seams with this fabric. 💫 All fabrics from @poundfabrics 💫I also decided last minute to make a belt to go with the dress which I’m so glad I did!! I have made this vintage (1987) Vogue 1883 pattern twice before - in a lawn and a spotty viscose challis. My latest is in @libertylondon Tana Lawn (“Octavia Rose”) from @wearethefabricstore , which is perfectly showcased in the simple design of this dress. In all three versions I have omitted the centre seams on the front and back bodice (so much easier than pattern-matching) and the zip - there is enough room to pull the dress on over my head. I love a lot of the details in this dress including the sleeve facings, v-neck and elasticated waist channel. I also love the long, full skirt, which I recall is very 80s/90s.
