10. FÖRVANDLA. Ett vackert italienskt linnetyg från Etro/@tygverket som jag sydde en klänning av, resulterade tyvärr i en trist "säck-och-aska"-look 😑. More pants fitting musings from the Christo and Jeanne Claude L’Arc de Triomphe Empaqueté There is no limit to the number of ways to cut up fabric and sew it back together to wrap the body and create design, no right way and no wrong way which makes fashion so exciting. When we talk about pants fitting we are mostly referring to a garment with 4 segments, made from 2 pattern pieces—back/front plus internal shaping elements. Interestingly the Arc de Triomphe was closely fitted with a gusset in the center (and, BTW, the center was fitted first before the outer sections). #V1915 is an example of a pants pattern with such a feature and also has interesting back views which looks like good opportunities to use up scraps of bottom weight fabric. Art is a useful prism to think about clothing, not just garments as art, but also the singular vision of the artist to illuminate universal ideas or new ways of seeing. The Arc de Triomphe could have been wrapped a variety of different ways; contrast the 2021 wrapping with the previous occasion when it was draped in fabric for the funeral of Victor Hugo. Roselyne Bachelot, the culture minister was quoted in the NYT saying: “The Arc de Triomphe is taken away from our gaze and at the same time overexposed to our gaze. This subtraction and this overexposure lie at the core of the work.” Replace Arc de Triomphe with ‘the human body’ and this could well apply to pants fitting
