Lizabeth Top & Birb Scally Cap by me. I made these from two wool skirts! The top is from Charm Patterns. The wool is a tad itchy, but I just have to figure out the right thing to wear under it. And I pattern-matched that front seam like I knew what I was doing! 👊 I did a 1” sway back adjustment and lowered the neckline by another inch in order to get it on easier, but otherwise it’s a great fit. . The cap was a process. I need to get better at recognizing issues during the mock-up process because I made 5!! mock-ups for this and it still came out a little large. I was adamant about getting that @BostonScally-slope over the curved brim - 😍 sooo nice! - and I think I came pretty close. I started with Vogue 8869, but altered the pattern a lot, and used the brim from a thrifted Celtics cap. Am I ever going to forgive myself for not matching the white strip on the side contrast piece? No. But the hat just had to get done at that point before I set fire to it. And Boston Scally apparently issues pins with their hats, so I decided to put a bird on it to make it better. (Thanks, @atyerserviss!) . Disclosure: I’m a poser. I’m not from Boston, and I’m not tough. The pattern challenge featured a first for the bee with the contestants making a hat. The Baker Boy Cap is a casual-wear cap historically linked to the working class man and boy and made famous recently by Peaky Blinders. It's involves some tricking elements to sew with precision and symmetry being key. Vogue pattern 8869 has multiple styles including a cap. The made to measure challenge had sewists creating utility jackets. Jackets are made with function and practicality in mind and, according to Patrick, must have at least three pockets. Kathryn’s husband is thrilled with his handmade Christmas gift! She sewed this marvelous hat using a combination of our Italian doubleface cotton denim (sold out) and medium weight hair canvas (fabric # 74444) to make a soft, less structured rendition of #v8869 . "I didn't actually take advantage of the double sided nature of the cloth, but used the reverse for the underbrim and lining. With the 2 layers plus interfacing, it is reasonably substantial. The medium weight hair canvas was nice to work with... I wove the inkle hat band with a few different cotton yarns, and it is about the same width as the self-fabric band in the pattern (Vogue 8869). The jacket is complete! Pictures to follow once I have good light. Meanwhile I'm back on hats, the pattern was gifted ke by @minervadotcom to sew up for vogue month and I have to be honest I was beginning to wonder if I would have to admit defeat. If I was in sewing bee I would be leaving this week! Anyway I've persisted and its paying off. Does anyone else try on as they sew? Trilby no. 2 has the thickest interfacing I own in it and I'm sewing two sizes bigger. I thank my kids for asking for bucket hats. Now I am in love with #buckethatfashion Only had tiny amount of this Burberry inspired canvas fabric left from a pair of boots and bag I made recently. Used the scrap fabric to make this. I could not center the pattern even if I wanted to. I found out a bucket hat works with about any type of clothing. Will be making many more. I have made 5 thus far, three for my kids and 2 for me. Pattern is Vogue8869. The pattern is not perfect , for example if you use all pieces of the same size there are gathers. I had to decrease the middle piece so the gathers do not appear.
