Believe it or not, yes this beach is in the Netherlands! We had the day off today so went to the beach in Scheveningen with friends. ❄️🌨Nothing says flannel pajamas like snow falling outside your window. It just so happens I finished these for the SO as the snow picked up and he’s been puttering in them since then. They are the #v8964 men’s pajama pants with a real fly from #voguepatterns. I bought a couple yards of this fabric on a whim thinking I’d make something for myself. After feeling the gorgeous soft fabric, the SO said he’d love something made from it so I pivoted to some #selflesssewing (sort of - I’ve reserved the right to steal them occasionally). 📏 They were made in a size 36 although he’s closer to a 34 (he’s normally a S at J Crew). I did this to compensate for fabric thickness and risk of fabric shrinkage. The pant legs also seemed narrower than his usual brushed cotton pj pants so I wanted the added width. I took off at least 2 inches from the bottom of the leg. The fly ended up being a little long and the button on it a little too high but that is easily adaptable next time. 🛍 They are made of organic #mammothflannel by @robertkaufman from @stonemountainfabric and @cottoncandyfabricshop. Notions (elastic and twill drawstring) are both from @dinusa. 🧵🪡 The pattern was generally easy to follow. It was my first time making a covered button fly but it wasn’t hard with the instructions. For a fabric like flannel, I’d probably skip the interfacing but I can see how it’s useful if you’re using thin fabric (which the pattern was designed for). I used flat felled seams for the inside leg and crotch. I also tried adding pockets but they looked poofy so I removed them. Another selfless sew in April, this time a pair of pjs for @chosephs requested by no4. Made from Vogue pattern 8964 with added pockets in the most delicious flannel from @lamazifabrics. One of the things about selfless sewing is that you have no editorial input on the photos that come back but he is displaying my pattern matching well. I’m very pleased with my selfless sewing month so thank you to @sew4serenity and @mysewcialthread for setting up the challenge.

My Dad’s Christmas PJs in action, doing his best Zoolander Blue Steel. The pressure at becoming a social media ‘star’ (literally TENS of people will see this) is evident from his message to me: “Not too successful in the photography department. It's very had to get a picture of two old people in pyjamas without looking like knobs.” I think he looks rather dapper, but then I’m bias (towards the pyjamas). These are the hardest items I’ve made to date. Collar, flies, button holes. You name it, I unpicked it. Merry Christmas! Here are the traditional PJs made for my dad for Christmas. I don’t mean to correct a professional pattern company, but someone should tell Vogue patterns that bunting and tote bags are ‘easy’, whereas flies, collars and button holes are most certainly not. I struggled through the pattern with many scratches of the head, cups of tea and muttering, wondering what lofty heights my sewing ability has now reached, only to turn the pattern over and read ‘easy/facile’. No way?! [Insert word of choice here] off! The good thing about using PJs as your ‘stretch’ project is that they aren’t worn outside the house, so little imperfections can be forgiven, right? My dad seemed pleased. He hasn’t found the raw edge on the inside of the fly yet though. Well it took more than 4 years, but I finally finished @thomasmurphree’s 2017 Christmas pajama pants. Once upon a time, my then-boyfriend bought a pair of @vknagrani breakfast pants that he adored. We couldn’t find a second pair anywhere. So I set out to make some, despite the daunting criteria: contrast hems and waistbands. Contrast button fly. Contrast in-seam pockets. Ultra soft jersey modesty panel (that conceals the pockets, no less) Four years later, I can they they may not be perfect, and the #vknagrani pants are definitely nicer, but these were made with love. Pattern: #voguepatterns #v8964 with LOTS of modifications. Fabric: quilting cottons of some kind that I bought so long ago I can’t recall.

When Rosie saw the release of our new Liberty Art Fabrics, she happily shared the pajamas she made as her family's Christmas gifts last year using EOS Liberty Tana lawn, Dutch cotton poplin and Giza Egyptian cotton. For the floral pajamas, she used the Carolyn Pajamas pattern from Closet Core Patterns. The tops are Tana Lawn piped with the solid Giza cotton shirting, while the bottoms are Giza with the slash pockets and cuffs piped with the Tana Lawn. She finished them off with blue abalone shell and flower buttons. For the men's pajamas (pattern #v8964 ), she used our Dutch Oeko-Tex cotton poplin "on the road" for the top and excalibur gray Giza cotton for the bottoms with store-bought black piping.
