If “if at first you don’t succeed” was a dress, this one would be it 😄 This @simplicity_creative_group #s8421 dress was made up pretty early in my sewing journey and it was a hot mess 🗑 I sized down waay too small 🤦🏾‍♀️ (size 6 I believe) and made a mess of the collar tie🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️, used GREY interfacing on a white chiffon type of fabric 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️ and don’t get me started on the elastic casing (which I’m still not a fan of 😒) but I think it’s an adorable outfit now. I found this nice soft rayon at my local fabric store @mulberrysilks as a remnant, so I don't actually know what it is. But it is beautiful so I wanted to make a very simple slip skirt to show it off. I stashed this pattern a few months ago but didn’t have a plan until I saw this pineapple nylon crochet lace at @fabricmart. ⁣ ⁣ I couldn’t decide if I wanted a pop color lining so I asked the discerning @sewuthinkucan for her advice and she wisely said dyed-to-match which I think ended up making this so much more versatile. ⁣ ⁣ Joann’s had a satin that when cut on the dull side matched perfectly. I shortened the lining by three inches because I didn’t have enough fabric. I cut the lace panels on the cross grain to take advantage of the selvedge instead of fussing with a hem. ⁣ ⁣ The side seams are overlocked (first time using regular thread on a serger - why haven’t I been doing this all along to get perfect color matches in smaller quantities of thread?!?)⁣ ⁣ I wore this to work with red tights and loved that look as well. Soon enough I’ll bust out a bare leg and I think it will be just as pretty with a square toe mule as a delicate sandal. ⁣ ⁣ This was a quick afternoon project including the French seams on the lining and the narrow hem done with ban roll.
