I was feeling super lucky to be an ambassador for @fabricgodmother this weekend while wearing my latest make! I was given the chance to be gifted a fabric of my choice from their new collection in return for this post and loved the colours in this Poppy Floral viscose crepe. I thought the bright red flowers on the dark background were just perfect for autumn and winter, so much so I bought new red boots to go with it! The fabric has a lovely drape to it and so I wanted to make something that would show that off. I choose to make this dress (pattern Vogue V1862) and it did not disappoint. The way the skirt flowed in the wind was just perfect. I had intended to make the dress with sleeves but I really liked the style without and so edged the armholes to do a sleeveless hack. The minute this was released I knew I had to have it – but I waited patiently for the #voguepatterns 50% off sale, of course! This is #Vogue1862 - with added pockets that I drafted myself. It took me two toiles to get this fit right. I initially had issues with the neckline choking me but a forward shoulder adjustment and a high round back adjustment seemed to help. All my usual adjustments too (sway back, shorter CB neck to waist, shorter length). Fabric is John Kaldor Cotton Sateen from @minervadotcom which is lovely. Although I learnt that you need a very sharp, fresh, small needle otherwise it plucks it and it's really visible. My lovely dress had its debut at my husband’s cousins wedding which was a lovely back drop for these photos. My new summer dress is perfect for this weekend’s warmer weather. This is one of the very few projects that I choose not to fully line. It works out fine but there is a definite difference. The fabric tends to cling closer to the body because of the static created by movement. Pattern matching - only you lovely people will truly understand my sense of pride in getting the back bodice to be almost perfectly pattern matched. It took me about 5 attempts to line the pattern perfectly over the zipper on the back bodice and the waist piece. And let me tell you, there was some happy dancing - but only after I'd managed to stretch my back out (my actual spine)! It was intense! #v1862 in a periwinkle linen viscose mix organdi like fabric that was in my stash for 2 years. I am not sure it was the right choice for this dress but i like the stiff crispyness and the almost shark skin texture of the fabric. I'll need to wear and see how it behaves before i pass judgement. Not convinced it's a success!
