Funky pants! I made these pants a couple years ago and they’ve held up well considering that I’ve worn them a LOT. They’re #S1887 and I think I ended up adding an inch to the crotch length right below the waistband (as I do with almost all pants patterns now, I have a weirdly long torso) as well as adding another inch or so to make them high waisted. I made the bodysuit as well! It’s the #sukibodysuit by @isainstitches, and at the time I first sewed it I think it was a free pattern! Go check her out she’s lovely. I’ve sewn a million of these and I’ll sew a million more because they’re just so practical — I layer them under all my summer dresses in the fall and winter. Last couple photos are mirror selfies cuz it was a good mirror (even if there is a toilet keeping me company in the pics lol) and one is a closeup of one of my favorite pairs of earrings! OOTD fun favourite flamingo skirt that I had forgotten about and was feeling unloved buried in the wardrobe! This make is several years old. Pattern @simplicity_patterns 1887 skirt. Love the curve at waist band, sits nicely and elastic at back 👌 No adjustments necessary. Such a quick sew but looks striking with fabric choice - cotton sateen. Wonderful deep, roomy pockets 👍🏼 Top is also home made using butterick6591. I have thrashed this pattern! Have used it for a dress bodice, the long sleeve with frill across back makes up great and have made mutiple of the short sleeve. Definitely worth having in your collection. For this top I made in woven viscose so just adjusted for that as pattern calls for knit. Added facing at neck band. Embellished sleeve and neck line with subtle mini sequin trim (love it when you manage perfect colour match with trims). Happy days! Managed to squeeze in one last pre-holiday make, a pair of Simplicity 1887 trousers in an oatmeal linen from @fabworksmillshop. This is a very easy pattern, with a shaped front waistband, elasticated back, and roomy pockets. Also very easy for fitting! Rather than grading, I just picked a midpoint size (based on finished garment measurements), did a simple full 🍑 adjustment, and all was well. There was some playing dress ups to get to this choice but here we have it. The remnant top that I wasn’t sure I’d ever actually wear. A previous post shows the skirt which I made from a 1.4 metre remnant and I managed to also squeeze out this top. The pieces worn together are just way too dressy/fussy for me to feel like myself or feel comfortable but this top with the shorts was a perfect hot summers day choice. I felt put together enough and think it was a chill vibe. Shorts which were made as toile of simplicity #s1887. I used a fancy stitch on my machine for the first time ever to hem them as I didn’t have matching cotton and it’s actually the thing I love the most about these shorts. Top is McCalls 3636 view A . A pattern I’ve hung onto from 2002. Fabric remnant @wearethefabricstore I actually paid a Dressmaker back then to make view E which is just the strapless version to wear to a wedding, why I didn’t and often don’t back myself to sew certain things I can’t fathom. The fit was terrible, so it ended up being such a waste of money as I never wore it again and I remember I felt horribly uncomfortable all night. I also followed a blog post from @sewinggem to make an adjustment to the left strap as it gaped at the back due to my scoliosis. FAITH TOP … sometime a you get a pattern and can’t decide which version to make… so in this case I made both. The @stylearc #faithtop has a pin tick version - perfect for the crisp pink and white striped shirting- and a gathered beck version- perfect for the super light Broderie anglaise edged lawn. . I love them both but I possibly prefer the pin ticks. Definitely easier to do on the striped fabric, would have been much harder on plain or patterned. . So. All done with #s1887 with its many revisions and sewer error. The Good: they’re comfy, and are going to be good travel pants for sitting in airplanes and easily dressing down or up enough for most vacation situations. I have culottes from this same tencel/lyocell fabric and I love how they drape and feel. The Bad: probably not real life pants for me, contributing to a bifurcated closet of clothes that are just for certain situations. Also, the pattern blows. I made a 14 waist, graded to 12 hip and leg, but then took out even more so it’s probably between an 8 and 10 leg. This was what led to slicing into the pant leg with the serger knife. If you use the 8-10 waist you’d never get the pull on waist over your butt/hips. Also, the waistband pattern really can’t accommodate two 3/4inch wide elastic lengths without a struggle (I used a single 1.5 inch wide and it fills the whole casing). I had to add 2 inches to the rise and 3 inches to the inseam to fit my height. . My husband doesn’t care for the look of the elastic and I don’t either, but I wanted something that would give. He said to put in a zipper next time, but if I do that I think I’d rather make the Deer&Doe culottes from their e-book (I really thought this whole time I should have just used that pattern and straightened the legs!!) I can’t see making these again. But I do plan to wear them on vacation in a week so perhaps I’ll change my mind. . #SewOver50 #s1887 #joggers #sewingtall

This might be my fastest sew yet. Started late yesterday afternoon and she's wearing it today! I used Simplicity 1887. I had already modified the crotch curve, so I just needed to make them into shorts, rather than pants. I originally wanted a seven inch inseam, but the fabric dictated otherwise. Ok, so I think this turned out better than expected after many changes and mistakes. This is actually two pieces- top and pants, that I made to look like a jumpsuit. I’ve had this linen for a long time and always pictured it as a jumpsuit for some reason. It wasn’t the easiest fabric to sew, as the stripe is a thicker, slubby texture. I used Simplicity 1887 to make the pants. It’s a pattern that has been reprinted recently, because I also made it about 8 years ago (!!!). It’s also what I used for the shorts in my last post. I cut a size 16 and added a little bit to the back rise. The pants turned out just fine, but used so much of my linen that I couldn’t do the button up shirt I had originally planned. Maybe because I was dealing with a stripe when cutting. I wanted to do a more traditional buttoned shirt with a collar, but had the tiniest piece of linen left. I searched through my patterns to try and make something work and eyed my tnt favorite #fringedresspattern . I managed to squeeze out a top (and match the stripe across the front!) with some creative cutting by just using the bodice of the Fringe dress. I think it looks pretty good? And hopefully jumpsuit-like. Kind of what I envisioned. #MeMadeMay2025 Day 3: it’s #DerbyDay! 🐎 : Sadly, I didn’t have a party to attend, so I opted to wear a comfortable pair of shorts with a cotton tank. (And I might’ve thrown on a fascinator for a little flare. 😉) : When I was a kid, I loved nothing more than playing dress-up. Maybe that’s why I #lovetosew today. This outfit was probably one of my most worn combinations whilst on holiday. Before we went away I had the urge to sew up some shorts as I realised this was a gap in my summer wardrobe I had a browse at the big four patterns whilst shopping in John Lewis and discovered the @simplicitymccallsuk 1887 shorts and trousers pattern I really liked the fact the pattern had a flat fronted waistband, elastic in the back waistband and the option to add a cute tie detail along the front waistband too. I didn’t have enough of this fun neon lollipop cotton fabric from @fleur.et.ours to add the tie to this pair as I used most of it for a shirt for my husband I found the instructions fairly straight forward to follow considering it was a big four pattern and I also found the sizing accurate for the shorts too I paired the shorts with the @truebias Zoey tank top that I made using this bright neon rib knit fabric from @newcrafthouse I made two of these tops for Ruby and Lola and had enough to make myself some too This outfit was perfect to throw on ready for lunch - practical whilst feeling comfortable. First full day trial wear mainly wfh and a hairdresser appt, first one in 2.5 years so also put on eyeliner and mascara so hopefully when I looked in the mirror I’d feel good and would only be judging my hair. Same shorts, very different woman. Five years is a very long time, I made these shorts in 2018 and haven’t been able to get them on for awhile, thanks global pandemic. They are snug now but they fit again. I love this pattern and these shorts. This was a remnant that I found at Joann and it was just enough to get these shorts. Finally finished these navy needlecord trousers yesterday using Simplicity 1887. I’ve hacked the pattern quite a bit, adding width to the legs and altering the back crotch depth. Still not perfect and the pattern needs some more changes to get the fit right for me. The jacket was made from the Smitten Jacket pattern, one of my favourite jacket patterns, from Pattern Emporium. I know they don’t show up real well because my fabric is busy, but I enjoy them none-the-less. The skirt is a thrifted table cloth, and the shorts are denim I thrifted somewhere. Getting two rows of elastic through denim and basically quilting cotton? Yikes! I ended up making an extra opening in the back of the waistband to get it through. Then sewed it up at the end. Worked great and I will consider doing the same with other patterns. Otherwise it’s a real battle. I learned a thing or two about elastic and which is better for threading through a casing.
