The fails: not adding enough extra length in the sleeve for my long arms, elasticated sleeve bands hem (found out I hate that feeling so I seam ripped that out fast but haven’t remedied yet) and the design of grown on sleeve leaves excess fabric in my armpit area. And I don’t like the fabric against my skin but it’s lovely alone or perhaps in a different project. Ok maybe it’s more of a fail but it’s so cute! Maybe this fail for me can be a family members win. Today I turned 34, and what better way to celebrate than with lunch with my family followed by a bit of selfish sewing. There hasn’t been much sewing at home recently (picture 2 demonstrates why) but I was able to more or less finish this hacked vogue #v1833 sweatshirt before bedtime. Main fabric was purchased from @wearethefabricstore Sydney approx 2 years ago and ribbing was found at @achievesewingbasket Balmain

Here are my my #sewnshownseated post as part of this months #seatedmakeschallenge2024  hosted by @lolieya and @thewheeliestitcher . The pattern is Vogue 1883 and its made in this beautiful, bold sateen fabric by John Kaldor from @Minervadotcom which they kindly gifted to me  Size wise this did come up quite big on the bodice, at first I made a toile and did a fba but it was huge and gaping at the armscye so i decided to just go with the bodice without any adjustment but it still came up big around the armscye so I took in in 2 inches at the top of the seam grading towards the actual waist seam. I think I could have gone down a size even though I went by my measurements but for a seated sewist i think that sizing in the skirt would be perfect. I made the long version and added 2 inches for my 5ft8 height but it comes up very long (just below my ankles) but there is a shorter version. The first 6 pics are of the seated ones at different angles (straight on and slightly above) I also posted at the end 3 standing ones to show what the length looks like standing so a seated sewist can gauge the difference for adjusting the length as it does come up a lot longer seated that standing. So here we go with my latest make completely different from my last one ...this one is big, bold and you know when I arrived in the room that's for sure!  I know I should probably start acting my age but that is never going to happen…I recently had a comment on a facebook sewing page ‘your coquetry and age are somewhat at odds’! I am sure there are a lot of sewists out there similar to me who will make clothes that make them happy and feel good and not to please anyone else and if that comes across as flirty well so be it. As long as you still have that twinkle in your eye you can shine at any age. So here is my latest make with the boldest of bold patterns by John Kaldor kindly gifted to me by @minervadotcom and perfect for Summer and also perfect for this pattern which is Vogue 1883 which to me is reminiscent of the 1970s…my Margoesc coming out again! I love sewing with all sorts of fabric but I have to say one in a while it's lovely to sew with an obedient fabric and This John Kaldor cotton sateen certainly is well behaved and was a dream to work with. I was planning to pattern match the skirt with it being such a big pattern but when I came to cut it out I discovered that the skirt pattern pieces did not have a vertical line at the centre front but quite steep vertical lines so it was near impossible to match all but a few millimetres so i gave up on that idea but if I made it again with a fabric with a big bold design I think I cut it sideways on  the fold and take of the seam allowance, this only occurred to me once I had cut it out, hindsight and all that.
