A closer look at my #Vogue #V9236 dress 💃 Before summer was gone, I managed to finish this dress in a very swishy rayon fabric from Stitchfabrics. I just love #Voguepatterns 😍 I modified the pattern a bit by adding the sleeves. Very quick and easy dress to make. I've made a knit top for DD, once again using my hack of #v9236 and a higher almost turtle neck neckline. Got out my cover stitcher for the first time in ages but luckily it behaved on this fabric. Swipe to see yet another set of #stylearcelle pants. I've seriously lost track of how many of these I've made (on request) for DD over the last five years, summer weight, winter weight, sometimes two at a time. They are her favourite work pant. She looks good in my creations but it's very hard to pin her down for photos 🙄😁 #sewingforothers

My first make of 2024 is this beautiful pink dress that I made for my lovely friend’s engagement party 💕 I had an idea of what I was going to make and that all went out the window when I saw this silk blend fabric at Remnant Warehouse. The name of it was “magic magenta” and I think it really lives up to its name - I love the colour so much. I used Vogue 9236 but this dress went through a crazy amount of post sewing hacking when I discovered that the structure of this fabric combined with the pleats of the dress made it look like a giant pink marshmallow. I ended up turning the pleats into full length vertical seams that run to the hem, to take in some of the volume. The side seams also came in as well. Even though this dress caused a lot of late nights and head-scratching, I love the result and it was perfect for the occasion, which was a lovely night! 🌸 @theremnantwarehouse @mccallpatterncompany #v9236 #sewing #memade #sydneysews #memadewardrobe

A bit of holiday sewing for DD. It’s a swing top hack/redraft of #V9236 I made one for her last year, it’s way back in the grid. Re the fabric, isn’t it fabulous? I was in a out of town second hand shop a couple of months ago looking for sewing patterns and got talking to the owner who asked me if I’d like a stack of fabric out the back that a friend of hers had given her. For free! 🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻 I tried not to look excited and said ‘yes, I think I could make use of them’ 😁 hehe Groovy Baby!

My latest make, a “quick” sundress, V9236. It wasn’t as quick as I thought it would be... my previous post shows the toile, which I had to work on quite a lot to adjust the double princess seam. I didn’t resist underlining the dress in a soft cotton. I added hem lace but then it made hard creases when I folded it on the seam line (you can see the basted line). So I folded it just under the lace sewing line to soften the hem. The lace was then attached with a running stitch at its top. I also added 2 stays that link the side pleats between the back and front (blue ribbons) so the pleats would hold better. The zipper is hand picked. I applied catch stitching to the bodice seam allowances since there are quite a few of them. But since it’s not lined we will see how that holds. And there are pockets!!!! The fabric is from @britex purchased 2 years ago. I had to piece the sides because otherwise I would not have had enough fabric (I had 4 yards) but since it was in the straight grain, it wasn’t too difficult and it doesn’t show with the busy pattern. #couture #handmade #V9236 #underlined #pleatstay #handpickedzipper #batikdress #piecing #dresswithpockets

The next project is a sundress. I’m so glad I made a muslin (toile) because I had to make so many adjustments. I probably cut one side too big for the shoulders but the bust was ok. I wasn’t feeling comfortable doing a full bust adjustment with the double princess seam so I had to redraw everything else! You can see all the lines i have drawn, matching with several trial and errors. I use friction pens to mark the changes. So I can erase with the iron when I want to modify. Not sure what I love more, the pattern or the fabric!? About 8 months ago I bought 10m of this beautiful fabric and this is the second dress now I’ve made. I have just enough fabric left for 1 more garment. I love how vibrant the colours are and just everything about this print. This pattern was so straightforward and easy to make and I love how everything fits. I didn’t need to make any adjustments which made it such a quick relaxing afternoon make. It was a toss up between which length to choose but in the end the full length won and I think it looks amazing. Overall I’m very pleased with this make and as I don’t have many summer full length dresses this one will definitely get a work out for some up coming dinners I’m going to.
