#memademay Day 1️⃣3️⃣ in another variation of #m8380 a 1940’s authentic pattern reproduction from @simplicity_creative_group Second time making this one and I ran into so many minor fit issues that I didn’t the first round. Annoying things—an inch here, a few centimeters there and the damn dart just didn’t want to line up. Thousands of stitches ripped 😮‍💨 Anyway, big, big fan of this cute little dress. I always have Paulette Goddard in the movie The Women (1939) in mind when I think of patterns to make. Would she wear this to dinner in Reno? Maybe! 😅 Fabric is beautiful and thrifted. Painted metallic gold accents on a soft, dry cotton. I made a matching scrunchie from scraps to pile up my frizzy nest on these humid days. Also continuing the theme of sewing a wardrobe around my beloved @coach bags 😎😅 💅 Would love to see this pattern gain popularity. Pivot! Do you ever have a mock up just not work out? I started down the path of fitting McCalls M8380, but was less than thrilled with my mock-up. I think it just wasn’t meant to be with my fuller bust; the neckline opening was too big and I couldn’t figure out a good way to get that to fit more snugly to my body while still accommodating my bust without adding weird darts or elastic or something that would really change the overall look. Not every style works for every body, and this is one of the reasons I always do a test run in scrap fabric before I move forward with a project! But I still really wanted to make a one-should dress, so I pulled out a different pattern that had some more bust shaping built into it, B6323.
