#MMM day 14. TWO outfits - why you might ask? I got dressed thinking today was going to be like all the other wet, drab days May has provided. Right before I left for the day, and after I took this photo, I looked and it was actually meant to be sunny. Totally not a day for stockings. This part of my house is my favourite, well one of them anyway. This wallpaper from @houselarsbuilt is just perfection. It wraps around our fireplace and it eventually will have a wooden mantle over it to complete the look. There will be curtains to be made, a rug to be bought plus some art or plants or something on the wall space around the TV. She is here! My take on @jaclynsalem ‘s amazing hack idea of combining the bodice of #s8635 and skirt of #m7971. It took multiple mock ups to get the fit right as I had no intention of wearing a bra with this dress. I accidentally used heavier than needed fusible interfacing but it worked out in the end as the stiffer result supports my bust in a bra like way. I removed the zipper and shirred the two back panels instead. Lesson learned that for the fit I like, I don’t need to cut the shirred pattern piece to 1.5/2x the original length. I can keep it the original size and that seems to still get over my head! I think next time I will try this bodice with a tired and gathered skirt for a serious swoosh effect. This beautiful fabric was a gift of @dianeattheranch 💕

I made another wrap jumpsuit using the fantastic @primarimma_patterns #overallkatja bottom combined with a mash up of @simplicity_creative_group #s8635 bodice/neckline raised based on vintage @mccallpatterncompany #m2742 This is the jumpsuit that I had been dreaming of when I stumbled upon the Katja overall pattern. The laced back makes fitting easy and, thankfully, with the wrap pant, it’s bathroom friendly, which sadly the s8635 jumpsuit is not (think: fully unlacing and relacing with every bathroom trip😳) The fabric is a bubble crepe that is somewhat sheer so I made a short lining with ITY. Wore this out to much today and it was breezy and comfortable. Soooooo I’m kinda obsessed with this two piece linen set I made for my bday week😳 Linen is from @okcfabricmarket , bralette is self drafted, and bottoms are based off of of the pant portion of #s8635. These were probably both the quickest sews I’ve had in such a long time and I even took every single single step to perfect how they looked inside and out! Denim jumpsuit of dreams 😍 I've had a darkwash denim jumpsuit on my to-do list for months. Having made the dress version of the @simplicity_creative_group #s8635 before, I decided to make the jumpsuit as well. As this is the second time using this pattern, I knew to make the following changes: I shortened the bodice pattern by 3cm because I have a shorter torso. Added a fourth loop to thread my ties through. This was an attempt to limit the gaping between loops. ⚔️ Matching Set ⚔️ . This set started out as a jumpsuit, Simplicity 8635, for a Vegas trip. There was far too much wriggling and arrangement of straps for it to be practical if I ever planned to go to the bathroom, so I separated it into pants and a top. I didn't love the top because it was hard to get the zigzag straps to look even and I couldn't wear a bra with it, so I replaced it with the top shown here. And here we are lol!! . The top I used is the Daphne Bandana Top from @genuinelyempatterns and it worked out great! I made it reversible so the flip side is half of another set! Plus I can wear a bra!! Side note: I haven't seen myself from the back like this in a while, I didn't know that was going on back there 😂 I guess those @pilatesevolution_southglenn classes are working!! Ilona Maher watch out lol!! . I really like these pants because they are loose and flowy yet have enough tailoring to not look like pajamas. The waistband was a bit floppy since it was designed to be connected to a bodice, so I put some elastic in the front half to keep it in place. I wear these all the time with just a T-shirt for casual wear. I love them. The fabric is a rayon challis from Etsy (shop is SuperTextiles). . My beautiful cousin @ryellewellyn married @samuelsmythe last weekend in France ❤️ congratulations Mr and Mrs Smith! For this very special occasion I made a hacked version of the Simplicity 8635 dress which I’ve been taking my time with over the past few weeks. I even made a toile 😮 The fabric is a deadstock viscose satin jacquard bought from @fabricgodmother and I’m absolutely in love with it. The colour is incredible and the fabric moves beautifully. But the cherry on top is the tiny embroidered hands woven into the fabric and scattered all over. They glisten when the light hits them but are otherwise quite invisible. So cute! Pattern modifications: I raised the neckline by 8cm to give me this boat neckline which I’m loving at the moment, and re drew the arm holes. I took 1.5cm off the length of the bodice from the waist seam. I graded from a size 12 bust to a size 14 waist, and I also self drafted the skirt from scratch. And it’s all lined! 🥳 After I thought I was done, I had the dress hanging up for a couple of days when I realised the parts of the skirt which were cut on the bias (it’s cut in 4 panels) had dropped slightly, making the hem uneven. So I had to get Louise to level it with a ruler from the floor whilst I was wearing it #thatslove. Second summer dress for my eldest. And only second ever request from her. Again, we bought the fabric together when she accompanied me to the Stitch Festival. It’s a very cheap (£3-something) quite rough cotton but it is perfect for this #S8635 summer dress. The pattern caused me some trouble because the criss-cross back was only an option for the jumpsuit, not the dress, and I had to do some considerable fudging to hack it all together. Finally made the Gilbert top! I bought the pattern a while ago but couldn't decide what to make it with. I finally decided on left over linen just to use up my stash. As I do for all my trips, I plan a mini wardrobe & color scheme of the outfits that I pack. For this trip it was yellow Gingham and mint green, which coincidentally went with the house we stayed in. The yellow Gingham print even went with a cup that was in the house! Here are some of the oufits: The dress is #M7946 view D - it took a lot of patience b/c there are 3 rows of Elastic and binding to do on this dress. Top is #B4685 view D- I omitted adding the trim and elastic waist to make a simple top. Jeans were a DIY . I got a plain pair of jeans from the #goodwill and added flowers, pearls and lace. All embellishments from #hobbylobby Jumpsuit is a combo using #S8635 view A for the top and #M8218 view B for the bottom. The fabric I used was a knit so I didn't need to add a zipper. I also wanted it to tie in back so that's why I chose s8635. Me Made May, Day 10: 70° degree weather this week means bring on the summer dresses, right?! I call this one my Strawberry Dress🍓 because of the pinky-red stripes. I made it using @simplicity_creative_group #s8635 bodice (modified into a button up) and a half-circle skirt. S8635 is one of my all time favorite bodice patterns—I use it to hack RTW garments very frequently. I made this play suit a couple of years ago but I’m always excited when I get a chance to wear it It’s the simplicity 8635 and if memory serves me right, it was a nightmare to get a good fit. Trying to make the side backs sit nicely without gaping open took a lot of unpicking and resewing and even in the final version could probably still do with a little bit more taking in. But I think worth it in the end, I love a good dramatic back and with 39C weather today the openness was very welcome! Update: I’ve just been looking through the #s8635 tag and realised the reason that I struggled so much with the fig is because it looks like I’ve missed a set of loops, it looks like the straps are supposed to cross over twice rather than just once. That would probably have helped a lot with pulling the bottom half of the back closed to avoid the gaping 🤦‍♀️. Spanish Steps, wearing Simplicity #s8635 in another fun, green fruit linen from Draper's Fabrics. You can't see it in this picture, but I braided piping together to make the straps. St Peter's Basilica, wearing my much loved Stylearc Maude Tunic in linen - I think this top has been on every holiday with me since I made it in 2018. I'm also wearing my Clare Pants in linen. 5. About 7 years ago I made the play suit version of the simplicity 8635 pattern and I remember it being an absolute nightmare. But I thought, “that was 7 years ago, I’m way better at sewing now, it will be easy now”. How wrong I was… Getting the bodice of this to fit was still the absolute worst. After a lot of trial and error I traced the bodice pattern in a size 12 (rather than a 14 - which is where the pathern measurements put me) and did my first ever full bust adjustment, which much to my surprise fixed a lot of the issues. I then took about 1.5cm off the bottom to shorten the torso and we were left with something that pretty much fits!!! (It’s not perfect I know but I did not have the patience for anything more). Then I managed to cut a hole right in the front of the trousers… So if you can see where I tried my best to patch that up, no you can’t 😂 All in all, I hate that I actually love the result 😂 it’s delightfully summery when worn by itself, but lovely and spring-y with a top underneath, meaning I’m actually likely to get some wear out of it. 2024 Crafting Year in Review, Part 2! My top-5 favorite projects in 2024 (ranked!) 🧵5. Brown linen dress hack using #s8635 bodice and #m8051 skirt. Honestly don’t know how s8635 doesn’t get more hype. It’s SUCH a great pattern for hacking all that Pinterest girlie inspo! I made this earlier in the year, wore it a ton before getting pregnant, and look forward to the day I can wear it again. I feel so effortlessly chic in it. 🧵4. Frocktails draped dress in silk organza from @moodfabrics. My first time draping. I loved the process, and can’t wait to keep experimenting with this technique. It’s far from perfect, but I felt like a floaty goddess in it. 🧵3. This stripe tank that was a mash up of @staystitchpatternco #lolatank, @paradisepatterns #sommarcamisole, and some self drafting in the mix, sewn in @lyricalfabrics cotton rib knit. This top is a TRIUMPH, hence the #3 position. I wear it all👏🏼the👏🏼time👏🏼. I can dress it up, dress it down… it’s so versatile—goes with anything. And the neckline just gives it that little twist on an otherwise quite classic piece. 🧵2. The self-drafted stockings. Of course these had to be near top for 2024. These are an heirloom brainchild, born 100% of my own creativity. I look at them and think, “Wow. I did that.” (Fabrics are mostly William Morris from @urbansewciety and @morristextiles) 🧵1. Coming in at number 1 is my @namedclothing #islatrenchcoat sewn in black wool and bemberg rayon from @moodfabrics. Not only is this coat incredibly chic, it’s also VERY warm. I can throw it on in the depths of an NYC winter and know it’s going to keep me as warm as a puffer would. Not for nothing, this coat took me 10+ needles, and cutting it out dulled a brand new pair of fabric scissors. But it was WORTH IT.
