Tomorrow I go back to work😣 Actually, I am going back to work today, grading and planning for the new quarter. But I batch cut my next 4 projects. Starting the new year with a top orientation. Everything is stash or recycled fabric. First is Simplicity #s9233 in a lime green gingham that I got in a box of fabric at an estate sale. It was only 36 inches wide, but I had 5 yards. If I like this design on me, I am going to make it in a Liberty print I have in my stash. Second is another McCalls #M7742 in an Indian border print I bought in Jaipur in 2017. It was just 1.5 yards so I am doing the front and back yokes in white linen lined with white gauze from the scrap bag. I plan to embroider the neckline. Third, though first to sew, is another Vogue #v1827 for my husband. This is made from another one of my BIL’s sarongs. Fourth is a Merchant & Mills Ottoline jacket from old matelassé bedspread that was in a $5 bag of linens (it included other treasures) my husband bought for me at an estate sale. He’s a peach! I dyed it with RIT indigo. I haven’t cut this one out, but I traced and cut out the pattern pieces last night and am excited about how I am going to use the chrysanthemum design on the jacket. BAM! Let’s go 2022!

Make 51 is this PJ Shirt from Vogue that I made using rayon challis from @fabricmart. This pattern has been in my stash for two years but I couldn’t find the right fabric until now. I used black piping and smoke shell buttons. This is a Unisex pattern so I cut a size Small but if I do it again I’ll open up the hips a little bit. I used a super light interfacing for the placket and collar and ban roll for the hem. ⁣ ⁣ I have more of this fabric, should I make matching shorts or pants?⁣ ⁣ In this project I learned:⁣ ✅ Using piping is tricky. It takes practice, and the pocket you see on this shirt was not the only one I made⁣ ✅ Sometimes after I finish something following the instructions exactly, I look at a finish and go hmmm I could have done that nicer if I’d thought about it for two seconds first! This is the shirt I made for my son for Christmas. This is his expression when I wake him up from a nap to take IG photos before the sun sets. 😂 This was a special project because the fabric I used was one of my brother-in-law’s sarongs. We lost him this year at 58 to NF2. He had won his battles against the disease for so many years we thought he was invincible. The final six months of his life were a traumatic downhill plummet with my husband as his primary caregiver. My son was close to his Uncle Jeff, and they shared an interest in meditation. I picked out three of Jeff’s sarongs (one of his notable sartorial choices) to make shirts from. I used Vogue #v1827 to make this one. I made the short sleeve version without the piping or cuff because my son likes a shorter sleeve. All the seams are French (except the armscye) and I used another of @kylieandthemachine labels, “Bespoke” for this. I have one cut for my husband with a short sleeve lengthened two inches. Hoping to finish it by New Year.

Made a new shirt from a remnant found in the stash… rather like it. I used the Vogue V1827 pattern, and made it cropped. The collar instructions were a bit head-scratchy, but I looked at one of my work shirts (also a camp collar design) and figured it all out in the end. I also sized down, but could have done with making a smaller size really as I had to take the sides in loads when putting it together. Probably because it’s a unisex pattern. Day 19 of the #75hardstylechallenge wearing my #vogue1827 PJ shirt in a challis from @fabricmart with #v1988 trousers in a wool suiting from #fabricwarehouse.⁣ ⁣ This shirt was a challenging sew with all the piping. If I make it again I’ll change the facing, this one goes to the shoulder seam and just kind of floats inside the garment.
