Who else loves these vintage Daisy Kingdom patterns?? 💛 We call this the Belle dress as I made it for my daughter to wear when we went to see The Beauty and the Beast musical recently. I learned a couple of new things with this dress. Firstly, how to double pleat my fabric. And secondly, how to make the puffiest puff sleeves by using a lining about 2cm shorter than the sleeve. The lining holds the weight of the sleeve which allows the outer sleeve to hold its beautiful puffed shape. 🤯 This blew my mind as I've been sewing puff sleeves for my daughter for 11 years and only just found out about this technique. MY VALENTINE’S DAY ME-MADE ❤️ . Y’all remember life before the pandemic? When you could easily go out on dates with your spouse without a care in the world? Yeah, me neither. 🤪 . Haha, not but really. When this Valentine’s Day rolled around, my husband and I knew we had to make it a priority to go on an actual date... outside of the house... in a real life restaurant. It had been an entire year since I got to go on a date with my valentine. 😭 #praisegodforthevaccine . So, I knew I had to make something extra special for the occasion! Using Simplicity 8263 and 3 yards of fabric from @joann_stores, this DREAM cape came to be! I asked for so much help in designing this cape, and y’all came through! In the end, I chose to go with this camel colored fabric for the added bow tie closure. I love how it pulls out the camel color in the stripe print and adds a pop of preppy goodness. 😍 . Now, I know this isn’t your typical look for Valentine’s Day. I mean, there’s not a lick of red in the whole outfit (lipstick for the win!). However, considering that we have Arctic temperatures and an inch of ice covering Kentucky right now... it seemed pretty fitting. 🙃 Also why these pictures were taken inside. 🥶 . Apologies for not getting to it yesterday, but here’s what I’m working on. I’ve always wanted a cute cozy cape, but could never find the right pattern. I finally found what I was looking for with #s8263, using view A and adding the lower pockets from view B. I changed my plan for that brown velvet and decided to use it for this project, instead. I’m making it reversible, with the other side being made from an old olive green wool blanket, using lapped seams for that side to avoid the bulk of regular seams. The large brown buttons on the velvet side were salvage off a sweater from one of my patchwork sweater projects. The buttons for the wool side are from my stash collection. I’m putting pockets and the back tab on both sides. I do still have to figure out how best to connect the two sides without a ton of bulk from the wool portion. Also what I’m going to do for a closure that will work well on both sides. Had a fab time at @mcmcomiccon ! My daughter and I dressed as Fara and Fern from Disney's Star Wars spinoff, Skeleton Crew, aka Goonies in Space. Can't believe I made a suit, cape and a couple of t-shirts in six weeks. Was particularly pleased with the fitting on the jacket and the fastenings on the cape - I used a couple of tuck lock bag clasps. The jacket is a hacked Billie 🧥 from @pmpatterns - after I lowered the sleeves it fits really well. Trousers are the @truebias #emersonpants, lengthened to full length. The cape is a lengthened Simplicity 8263 and I'm definitely going to make another - it felt fab swishing about in it. The fabric was almost all from @poundfabrics - mostly their polyester suiting which is great for costumes as it's cheap at £2.75 a metre and sews up really well. I also used their viscose jersey for the tee I'm wearing underneath - a tried and tested @lieslandco #bentotee It was also really fun sourcing the bits and bobs - managed to find a really similar hair clip from Amazon and a ring from vinted. My dream of a perfect winter cape has come true! I stitched up the simplicity 8263 (picked up for $0.99 at Joann's) over Fall Break. I was house bound due to a cold and focused most of my time on sewing, audio books, and the Beatles' Get Back documentary. The lining is, I think, called sunback and was white before I dyed it. The pink outer fabric is deadstock from firecracker that I got last year. The fur collar came from @creative_reuse. It has been living in my dress form for several years, waiting for the right project. I could not be happier! Should have worn pics next week while I'm in Philly... I had to make a pink tweed cape. Like HAD to. It’s been done since November and I still haven’t worn it. And honestly, not sure when/if I will wear it. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Anyway, here it is. I also got the last bit of my #s8263 cape finished up that had been sitting since before the fall of the machines. Though the pattern technically is not, I made it reversible. One side is a chocolate brown velvet I had gotten from my mom with a bunch of other fabrics she passed along. The reverse is an #upcycledwoolblanket. The large brown buttons are rescued off one of the sweaters I used in my earth tones long scrappy sweater project early in spring. The small ones are just some little retro guys from the collection I inherited from my SO’s mom. I sort of mashed together features from different views for this. It’s View B but with the plain collar of D and the lower pockets of A. I wore it off to the grocery last night and realized I just happened to have a mask that coordinated perfectly. I need more practice on working with velvet. Some of my pieces were a bit screwy and off kilter because of the nap when cutting. Also the pieces for the wool side somehow ended up being about an inch longer than the velvet side, so that took some farting around to fix. But - it’s done, it’s cozy, and just in time for barely getting above freezing. Tomos wanted a cape to wear to a mid-December wedding after seeing this inspiration cape on pinterest (swipe to end) I thought I was going to have to adapt a super-hero cloak pattern from the costume section when strangely enough a batch of cape patterns got released in the new season designs. They must be having a come-back but apparently only for women as still couldn't find a man's version. However in this (unknown fibre but probably wool/wool mix from Fabric World) tweedy fabric with a weighty synthetic used for lining, and button holes on the left, you wouldn't really know it was intended as a pattern for women's fashion, it works fine for everyone. Made size medium which was a 14/16. Despite time-pressures this was one of the most satisfying and absorbing makes this year and after some false starts, I finally made the right fabric choice @simplicity_creative_group #simplicity8263 #s8263

This is my dry hair in the daylight following the first round of #colorfix and then I shampooed twice with Head & Shoulders. It looks like pastel fire. Probably because I put some yellow in there at one point and then more red on top of it again. Lol. Later today I’ll likely give it another go. In the meantime, I’m looking for something to make me to take a project break before I jump into sewing up all those masks we cut out last week. I’m considering #s1732, using this gorgeous deep chocolate brown velvet and caramel colored jacquard for the lining. I think I can do a version of view C (with some changes like making it a bit longer and full length sleeves) out of what I have. I also want to use this red and black #houndstoothfabric I got off Etsy for view B of #s8263. First I have to get something cozy for the lining, maybe a shorter nap black faux fur.
