I present to you, my pride and joy, my Chanel jacket! 😍😍. Swipe through to see how pretty the lining looks on the inside of the jacket and pocket. 📸 I sewed up the skirt back in October, and am so happy to have finished the matching jacket! This was my first time working with metallic boucle tweed fabric, and I learned a lot. I would definitely recommend block interfacing the side front and back pieces so the armhole doesn’t fray/unravel. I would also suggest cutting the fringe strips a little wider than one inch so that it doesn’t fall apart, and then trim the strips once you attach them. Those are my two biggest tips for working with this type of fabric! 😋 The pattern was easy to follow along with. I used the video tutorial by @alissahthreads, which was so helpful! I ended up doing the sleeves the way the pattern recommends, which is slightly different than the video tutorial, and had no issues! Slip-stitching the lining over the armholes left such a clean finish on the inside! 😍 If you’re been eyeing this pattern, and have been hesitant to give it a go, here’s your encouragement to try it out! ✨️new jacket✨️ I’m so lucky to have found the @chicagosews group since moving here. We have been working on sewing our own french jackets, and it’s been such a fun few months creating these together. I didn’t fully lean into the couture elements with my pattern or techniques, but I’m very happy with how my version turned out 😊 👀 Inspo: While browsing french/tweed/boucle jackets I found this blue one - loved the colour, shape, fringe, everything except the $1000 AUD price tag. So this became my inspiration for this project! 💙 Fabric: Blue tweed from YinoSupplies on Etsy. Bemberg lining from Mood. 🧥 Pattern: McCalls M8370 Mods: Narrow shoulder adjustment, I changed the design of the pockets to match my inspo pic, and I reduced the width of the sleeves by about 2 inches at the hem. I added a single hook and eye closure at my waist. I was particularly proud of myself for bothering to make a toile and figuring out what mods to make! Other than my adjustments I really liked the fit of the pattern and it was fairly simple to put together, but some of the steps were a bit confusing or contradictory - e.g. in steps 24/25 it instructs you to bag out the lining through a small hole in the hem then and hand sew that hole closed after. But you haven’t attached the sleeves at this point… So you can actually sew up the entire hem and simply turn it out through the sleeves. The pattern then instructs you to close up the lining by hand sewing the lining around the shoulders. As usual with these patterns, I think they’re easier to use once you have some more experience under your belt and you can follow steps that make the most sense to you rather than 100% relying on their instructions. 💕 We had the best day celebrating our jackets together on the weekend - pics of that to come! @mccallpatterncompany @simplicitymccallsuk #mccalls8370 #m8370 #sewingjackets #imakemyownclothes #sewistsofinstagram #chicagosews #handmadewardrobe

Absolutely love how chic and classy this skirt turned out! 😍 This was my first time working with boucle fabric, so I learned a lot! Boucle is loosely woven so it frays quickly, and rather easily. I learned to finish the edges before working with any of the pieces and to keep the vacuum handy. 😅 My only changes to the skirt pattern were to omit the trim detail and cut the fringe out in thicker strips. When I cut out the fringe in the original size, it fell apart before I could attach it to the skirt. 🙃 Thank you to @zelouffabrics for gifting this gorgeous fabric! 🩷 And, for anyone who wants to try this pattern, @alissahthreads has a great tutorial! ☺️ Stay tuned to see how the jacket turns out in the winter! I spent the weekend sewing @mccallpatterncompany #M8370 in this gorgeous tweed fabric! 💗🎀🌸 It was my first time ever sewing tweed and I did absolutely zero research before working with tweed and that was not a good idea! Here’s what I learned: 💗 My tweed had a lot of threads of different textures which caused it to unraveled VERY easily. Once the pieces were cut, I set them on my table and tried to handle them as little as possible! 💗 It was very difficult to see notches and transfer markings when I was cutting, so I used my little sewing clips in place on the notches.
