Now that we are in our new house and my sewing things are unpacked, I have been feeling creative again. I made this dress using McCalls 8058 for the top and added 3 9-inch tiers with a 1.5x gather (each tier is 1.5x longer than the one above it) I also added a matching belt, because that's one of my favourite parts of making my own clothes! Me Made May, day 15 and 16. It is finally feeling like spring here! The best thing about the MMM event for me is seeing everyday clothing worn by fabulous sewists and choosing what is next on my list. The #roscoeblouse is appearing a lot and the #hudsonpants seem to be universally loved. Also appreciate the jaw dropping gowns recently posted by @madebyarjaan @riannonbrum. Wearing clothes from 200+ years ago seems to have opened up my mind a bit to more layering options for everyday outfits. I always wore layers when I was growing up because I was usually a little too hot during the day. Now, I wear more clothes to get and stay warm! Would I have worn a slip and jacket with my red, short-sleeved #m6886 (now #m8058) dress to make it warmer before? Yes! Would I have thought to wear my wool skirt with it? Probably not! I love this skirt and I’ve had it for many years, but it doesn’t get a lot of wear, since I rarely feel I have just the right top to go with it. My dress turns out to be the perfect “top”! Bonus: it won’t come untucked or look messy like a t-shirt would and the fact that the waist on the skirt is a little large doesn’t matter at all in this outfit. Nostalgia note in second photo: I clearly don’t unzip the pocket on my jacket much, since it still has the metro card I bought on my birthday weekend with @lisacneel in 2020. It was unforgettable, with lots of #sewing with @kennethdking. Looking forward to repeating it one day!
