I participated in the summer caftan challenge by @simplicity_creative_group using the pattern simplicity 5628. I used my favorite clothing fabric, double gauze, because it’s wrinkle friendly, breathable during the hot summer months and oh so cozy. I added a few button holes and used an old hoodie drawstrings to give a little more shape to the dress. This dress is perfect for dressing up or wearing to the beach! 🐝 Sewing Bee Week 3 🐝 What a fabulous episode last night was. We were transported to West Africa this week and got to see and hear all about the local culture of clothing and fabric 💕 and as ever, some beautiful garments were made. It is a little harder this week for our pattern picks, but we have managed to find a selection that are a take of the Boubou (a wide sleeved floaty robe) which is what the Bees were challenged with for their made to measure. We’ve have paired the patterns up with some of our fabric picks too! Think airy, floaty and colourful, perfect for wedding outfits or to pack in your suitcase for a summer holiday. I made the perfect caftan and Madrid was the perfect backdrop! — I knew that I had to add the ruffles because the pattern wasn’t extra enough for me! Here's a throwback from my trip to Nashville last year. I'm wearing #S5628, a @simplicity_creative_group reproduced vintage pattern from 1973. I made this from some #barkcloth I got at an antique store and lengthened the pattern about 2 inches. In retrospect I shouldn't have because the #tassles from @joann_stores provide plenty of coverage 😉 Please invite me to any tiki-themed party so I can wear this again!
