The S98/05 Bayonet:
.
The S98/05, or the “Seitengewehr 98/05”, was the most common bayonet paired with the German Gewehr 98 rifle. Designed in 1905 as a remodel to the existing 1898 bayonet, it was known as the “Butcher Blade” because, I assume, it resembled something you would see a butcher use. Not to be confused with the Pionier sawtooth bayonet, though.
.
This specific example was made in 1917 by the F.W. Höller company, and is also unit marked with “6.B. N.35.” Which means it most likely saw service.
.
The scabbard & leather frog are reproductions, obviously. The scabbard from Atlanta Cutlery & the leather frog from Clang Armory, both VERY good companies to buy from.
