It's another #s9122 with the neckline 1/2" lower than my last version which is at least 1/2" higher than the pattern. The fabric is a super soft @atelierbrunette double gauze left over from the luxe pajama pants I sewed earlier this year. I only had enough fabric left over to do a true bias binding on the inside of the front neckline and not a true bias on the back neckline. I hemmed the sleeves and the skirt. I've been lining most versions of this dress but this time I'm letting the larger scale gingham on the inside shine. Maybe it has some Dorothy Wizard of Oz vibes but I'm OK with it! Fabric purchased from @just_make_it_sew last December. Check out that side stripe matching which makes chevrons. 🧵🪡

Fresh off the sewing machine is #s9122 in this RPC English Garden Juliet Rose rayon. I bound the neckline and armholes instead of lining it like I did last time. I somehow was on the struggle bus with this version and undid and redid the armhole bindings 3x which is my limit for undoing and redoing something. I also cut the armholes down to a quarter inch at the fold line as it was looking uhmmmm messy. I interfaced the bottom of the dress for extra stability for the hem. I used the rolled hem feature on my serger to hem it. Oh and I also sewed the tucks twice as long in the front. I initially lowered them even more than my first version but did not love so I lengthened them back upward. IG doesn't want to to tag anyone tonight soooo ... Hashtags only!

🌻 It’s the last holiday weekend of the summer. I’m excited for the kids to go back to school. And totally excited for fall coming soon. I know a lot of people are not fans of cooler temps but I’m #teamfall. It was in the 90s yesterday but didn’t get above 80 today. I could feel autumn in the air.. 🍂 Fall is like Christmas to me. And here’s my new double gauze dress just in time to say goodbye to summer! I love the look of double gauze. This is one of my fave patterns #S1080 #Simplicity1080 or #S9122 #Simplicity9122. This was one of first patterns. It’s pretty easy to make, not a lot of pattern pieces, and doesn’t require much fabric (less than 2yards). I did have to go to Joann’s to get more fabric for the pockets and bias tape. I had this fabric left over from another dress I made earlier this year and I’ve been working on using up small pieces of fabric in my stash. This dress was perfect for this “scrap” piece. I have a better umbrella in my desk drawer at work, I'll try to remember it tomorrow if this rain keeps up! This is the Dottie Angel dress #s9122 made with a few tweaks and also fully lined. It's one of my absolute favorites. Of course, a gray shrug seems to be a constant this month 😂 . I like these casual end-of-work day pictures because they reflect what the garment looks like after wearing instead of the just-pressed and not-yet-worn photos soon after completing the garment. I finally finished my Christmas dress from last year! Lol This is *officially* the first thing I ever made from a pattern but I didn't get it all finished until last week! I made the fabric out of strips of an old purple-ish bedsheet and vintage corduroy with the poinsettias, before cutting out the pieces and sewing it together. I forgot to mention that I added an inch to the neckline all the way around when I posted the other day. I followed the instructions for making the ties for #s9122 and they turned out beautifully. It's basically like making double fold bias tape but the fabric is not cut on the diagonal and it's sewn to itself. 😍. The main thing is no turning tubes inside out. On Tuesday, the new front storm door and all my rescreened screens were installed, and new window balancers were installed in 2 windows. Somehow it was the perfect temperature to have all the windows open in the house today and I totally loved it! I did some of my weekly chores yesterday and forced myself to do the rest tonight #tcb

Here's my first finish of the year, #s9122 in this floaty and fun floral rayon crepe I bought from @stylemakerfabrics . The fabric arrived on 12/20, I prewashed on 12/23, cut and started sewing it on 12/30, and finished it on 1/2. It's lined in black rayon voile from my stash. Of course I stocked up on 2024 labels purchased from @intenselydistracted . It was still 2023 when it was time to sew the label on but I knew I wouldn't finish til 2024. I decided to use self fabric for the ties instead of coordinating solid black, pink, or red ties as I felt the self fabric looked the best. It was pretty cold and really windy so this was a fast photo shoot!! #stylemakerfabrics #intenselydistractedlabels

After all that intense Frocktails sewing, I wanted to ease back into sewing this weekend, and #s9122 fit the bill. It's my third time making the pattern this year so I have the adjustments down. It's a great pattern for letting the fabric sing. Just some darts in the front and cinched with a waist tie that's sewn into the front darts that I made from the lining fabric. The fabric is a plaid voile I purchased from @metrotextilesnyc which I pattern matched on the side and it's lined with black voile that I also purchased from Kashi. I didn't precisely time it but I probably spent about 8 hours total on this dress between yesterday and today. This was a very quick photoshoot this afternoon as it was windy and also a little chilly to be outside with arms and legs exposed. #morekashi 🧵🪡

Here's the dress I cut and sewed this weekend: @simplicity_creative_group #s9122 in a chocolate brown cotton eyelet I've had for years, so long that there was a fade line from the sun. This is a 2020 reissue of the very popular Dottie Angel dress pattern from maybe a decade prior? I saw @sewnonthemap had made this pattern in her me-made-may feed this year and bought it then. It has no zippers nor closures, just slips over the head and cinches with ties. I decided to line it instead of binding the neckline and armholes. This isn't quite view A nor view C....I basically cut 3" off of view A and threw the rest away, then cut the front and back as long as I could with the vertical eyelet I had (I think it was about 2 yards?), then cut the rest on the horizontal so it's kinda like view C. I cut the ties long so that I could knot them in front instead of in the back. Even though I made a muslin with swedish tracing paper and thought the neckline looked ok, it is really wide and I sewed it with a quarter inch SA. Next time I think I'll add 1.5" to the neckline. I added bra strap holders to keep the neckline centered. Also next time I would sew a deeper SA at the shoulder tapering out because it seems to stick up a little there, but I had already topstitched the shoulder SA down and I wasn't going back. I used the rolled hem feature on my serger to finish the hem of the dress and the lining. Also this is the size medium and the front and back pattern pieces were exactly the same except the front piece has the markings for the pleats and the ties. I had read a bunch of pattern reviews that said to sew the shoulder seam first, then determine where the pleats should be because they are really high up on the pattern. I lowered them 1.5" and I might lower them a little more to be at my waist (I think maybe the designer wanted the pleats to be directly and immediately under the bust but I'd prefer closer to the waist). I think I might make it again next time I sew, but in RPC fabric, so stay tuned!

I had been lusting after this yellow plaid fabric from @metrotextilesnyc last year and when it was down to a yard, I bought it. Thankfully it was a Kashi-sized yard and I was able to make #s9122 with it. It's lined in white cotton voile purchased from Kashi as well. Each time I make this dress I play with the placement of the underbust tucks. I'm still not sure about the placement hmmmm. I had previously added to the neckline so that it's not so wide and deep but next time I'll open it back up by about half an inch. Welcome spring!! 🌱 #morekashi

Double update week! I actually finished sewing this in July, but it needed a slight adjustment which I made this week. In June it was my 12th Wedding Anniversary with some lists suggesting linen as a traditional gift. So my husband bought me both this beautiful linen and a sewing pattern to go with it. He said he knew it was going to be hard to find a pattern with pockets but he didn't know how hard! The dress is has some nice hidden elements like bias binding on the armholes and neckline. It also suggested French or covered seams but I cheated with the overlocker. Hard to see in the photos but thw waist straps are sewn into 2 sweet little pleats. This is where my adjustment was, I needed them about 1.5inches lower. Really like the fit now. Here are some flat lays of my new @simplicity_creative_group #s9122 dress. I used the rolled hem feature on my serger to hem the dress and the lining. I also pieced together a bunch of scraps for the lining and feel pretty excited by that somehow. Since the dress slips on over my head, I'll essentially never see that middle part of the lining, only the top part which is the eyelet and the bottom part which is the dark brown. 🤎. I wore the dress to the office today and was pretty comfortable throughout though the neckline is really too wide for me. I will adjust that on my next version.

I started this dress 2 weekends ago and finished it last weekend. It's #s9122 again, this time in a heavyweight red and navy bias plaid which has a ton of body and doesn't wrinkle. I lined it in a super soft dark navy cotton voile. Both fabrics were purchased online from @metrotextilesnyc : the plaid in Aug 2020 and the voile this fall. I made the ties by interfacing them to give them more stability , then essentially constructed them like extra wide bias tape (2" wide strip of fabric results in 0.5" wide tie.). I cut the strip on the cross grain, not on the bias, though. I also added a third pleat on each side under the bust to cinch it up some more. I really enjoy this pattern because it has no closures, just slips over the head, which means there are less seams for pattern matching (and no having to pattern match across a zipper!) . I wore it this week with a navy shrug, but I could also see wearing it with a long sleeved navy tshirt underneath. #morekashi
