Apparently, this is the pantone colour for autumn 24, so I was delighted to be gifted this beautiful fabric from minerva in my role as a minervabrandambassador. 💃 Who is down for a statement sleeve? Here's my latest minerva make, which I made from a trio of mccalls patterns. This dress is heavily inspired by the one which actress Emily Blunt wore to the critics choice awards ✨️ I loved her red one-shoulder corsage dress,so after being the lucky recipient of this fabulous red fabric,which was gifted to me by Minerva ,I decided to try & create a similar dress. I have never made a fabric corsage before, so this was a bit of a labour of love! But I persevered until I got it right. Now that statement sleeve! This sleeve pattern is designed for woven fabrics, not stretch knits,so I had to completely redraft the pattern to make it work. This took up a lot of my time,but I'm so happy that it worked out in the end. It look me less than 4 hours to complete it...last night and this morning. I made a few modifications to the bodice of this pattern. There might be a way to change this jumpsuit bodice pattern so the to-the-navel neckline provides secure coverage. I’m not going to take the time to try, though, when I can make other patterns instead. First picture is safety pinned closed high up, second is open as designed. It looks cute and intentional here, and I have to remind myself that’s the trickery of angles, posing, and still images of black velour (velvet?). In real life it poofs out sloppily and flaps open like Aladdin trying to tuck his vest into high waisted velvet (velour?) pants. I had the honor of making my friend’s wedding day jumpsuit back in October, and can finally share! Kayce was having a doozy of a time finding exactly what she was envisioning for her big day, and entrusted me to bring it to life. I started with the @mccallpatterncompany #M7910 as a base, knowing it’d need some serious altering as the pattern is meant for knit fabric. Ended up adding two darts in the front and back, increased the shoulder ease, tightened up and tacked down the front neckline, and installed an invisible zipper to accommodate the gorgeous tencel twill from @lakesmakerie. Had to add a last minute lining to the pants when they turned out to be a touch too sheer, but was thankfully able to squeeze it out of the fabric leftovers. This is definitely the most proud I’ve ever been on a project, and it was worth it knowing Kayce felt confident wearing something that felt most like her, but I can say without a doubt I will not be entering this arena of garment making! 🍁 mccalls m8174 hack 🍂 ad Just a few more photos of my new burgundy jumpsuit , which I made by combining the top from the #m8174 with the trousers from the #m7910 I wore this jumpsuit to my niece Katie's baby shower last weekend, where I had a fun afternoon. I took these photos just before I left the house, and I noticed that these photos really show the true colour of the fabric. The colour of this fabric can look different depending on the lighting and angle of the camera etc. In my previous post, my jumpsuit appeared to look more purple because I was standing outdoors in a shaded spot, but the fabric is a true burgundy. It's also very warm & comfortable in this stretchy scuba crepe fabric. Disco suit but no disco to go to 🕺🤷🏻‍♀️ @minervadotcom recently released their own line of crushed velvet fabrics and as an ambassador I got to try one out before its release. I was a bit hesitant at first because my prior experience of sewing with velvet was painstaking to say the least 😝 I was pleasantly surprised by how easily this went through the machine! Granted I did sew most of it on the serger which may have made it easier. It's a stretch velvet with a lovely drape to it and would look beaut sewn up as a slinky dress. I made @mccallpatterncompany #m7910 adding some sleeves for extra disco drama! I also opted for the straight leg but wish I had widened the legs for a more palazzo pant feel. If I made it again I'd probably also have the side slit come up a bit higher for extra sauciness 🔥 I ran into some trouble with the bodice fitting- there is all sorts of pulling in weird directions and gaping which was tricky to mediate, but out of frustration I settled on a (sort of) satisfied middle ground. Thank you to everyone who suggested a pattern for a halterneck jumpsuit the other day! I’ve gone with @kennedyflair and @bornellafabrics suggestion of McCalls #M7910 as I liked the fact that it’s a stretch pattern so it’s an “easy on, easy off” jumpsuit - always useful after a few bevs!! 😉 I’m going for the halterneck version, with a wide leg and potentially the side splits, depending on how I feel about them at the time! I’m certainly not going for the deep neckline version; I might not have much decorum, but I certainly don’t want to be flashing my knocks about!!! 😂😂 I bought the pattern and treated myself to some sweary Kylie and the Machine labels from @thefoldline It’s the first time I’ve bought anything from there and it came within 2 days, so very impressive! More scenes from last weekend. I was able to sing with my uncle’s band…playing bass and harmonizing here. As a little girl, he was always so “cool” to me because he was in a band. I would get to sing with him at our Christmas Eve party and would practice all year for the opportunity. Now, as a grown woman, I get to live out that dream sometimes. Such great memories!!!! Happy New Year, everyone & best wishes for 2025' 🎉 🍾🥂 I'm finally getting around to posting my new #oneshoulderjumpsuit . I finished this way back at the start of November, and I've already worn it a few times over the festive season. It is a hack of the #m7910 jumpsuit by #mccallspatterns. I have made the top half of this pattern before, when I made my red dress and I've used the bottom half to make my burgundy jumpsuit , so I thought I would make the actual pattern this time with a few tweaks. I love this pattern, but I felt that the legs weren't quite wide enough. I re-drew the pattern onto some gridded birthday wrap 😀 ( see last photo), and using my ruler and French curve , I added some length and width to the trousers to make them more of a bootleg shape. I also added tie straps to the shoulder, which makes the jumpsuit easier to try on without stretching the neckline. I also added an invisible side zip to allow for easier access when taking it off. This pattern is for stretchy knit fabrics, and it does not require a zip. However, my fabric was a lot thicker and had only 45% widthways stretch ,so a zip was essential.
