One more look - Love, love, love the lining. Maybe more than the main fabric.... maybe not. But, it's close. No exposed seams, hand-stitched closed at the waist and neck, and such a deep, rich color. Coincidentally, alike other minorities we’re not mentioned often in text books or American History, despite us migrating & being the first Asians to arrive in 1587 (33 years before the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock). Filipinos have a long history in the US, including fighting in the wars, which is typically not mentioned. Fun facts about Filipinos, 1 out of 5 Filipino Americans are mixed. 🙋🏻‍♀️ We are very welcoming. We treat others like family. We sing all the time, esp karaoke. We don’t know how to cook in small portions. We will over feed you. We LOVE basketball & boxing. We can talk all the time & can be very social. And our mothers are often nurses & father was in the military. 😂 jk 👀 but nonetheless TGIF. Me-made in the wild This year at the Chicago Auto Show First Look for Charity event, instead of wearing a store-bought (or rented) dress at least 2 other women will be wearing, I wore a unique dress, fitted to me, and made with care. Beyond that, I'm so proud of this make. It's not the most complicated, but it's the first garment where I felt like I actually may be a sewist. I didn't shy away from making adjustments (SBA, back strap shortening). I made finishing decisions without triple-guessing whether I "should." I took my time to fully line the inside, and frankly spent just as much time on the inside as the outside. This charity event is an annual tradition among friends up here, so I'm thinking a new me-made gown each year may need to also become a tradition! I got into turtlenecks for awhile in middle school (sometimes with vests over them!) before turning my back forever. This dress feels too much like a turtleneck to be comfortable. I MADE THIS 😱 . . I’ve seriously dragged in posting this evening gown I made back in February. This is by far the garment of which I am most proud. I whipped this dress up (and a muslin) in less than a week for law school’s Barrister’s Ball (aka law school prom), which was a feat for me during 1L. I have two galas to attend in 2020, and I’m already plotting two new me made evening gowns. . . The dress is a mashup of two patterns. I used #S8330 for the bodice and #M7540 for the skirt. I graded between sizes, using a 12 for the waist blended to a 14 at the hips. This is a usual adjustment for me. It’s also fully lined with a gorgeous navy blue fabric. . . Went and saw the Mario movie last night and really enjoyed it. Just about everything I'd want in a Mario movie...almost. But, it was fun! Wore an old favorite I made back in late 2018. A mash-up of #simplicity8330 for the bodice and #simplicity8051 for the skirt. I had bought this Nintendo princesses fabric before I had moved a few months prior and knew it needed to be made into something super fun and girly. This was my first time working with trims too, I remember sitting on @artinmyheart7 bedroom floor hand sewing the trim on the hem, neckline, and pockets. It's so nice to see it stay together almost 5 (wow) years later. Wearing it made me want to make this again, and play with more trims. I made the bolero too, using #butterick6354 around the same time as the dress. It was nice to dress up for an opening day/night of a movie again, I used to do it all the time. I got so many compliments, and two people asked for pictures. ~ Here’s a dress you may have seen in a previous post that I made for a Gala event last year. Interesting story on this dress. After buying the sewing pattern (@simplicity_creative_group #s8330) and fabric (@joann_stores), I started cutting the pieces and realized I bought the wrong size pattern packet and knew it would be way too small for me. Instead of buying all new materials, I tested my alteration skills. ~ The dress didn’t fit in the waist/hip area, so I was able to add an extra panel of fabric on each side to make room. Since I was already adding a gold lace overlay on my collar, I thought to add the gold on the sides to make it look intentional. I love how it turned out, probably better than the original design.
