Sometimes I sew a garment that I absolutely love but then rarely wear! This is one such example. I made McCalls 7900 in view A, but with the length of C, about two years ago. I used a woven cotton with a gorgeous bird print - it was perfect for my visit to Huntington Gardens with family. The shirt fits great, primarily because of the four darts, and how fun are those puffy sleeves? But I find it hard to style with bottoms… jeans? Shorts? Skirts? That particular day was HOT, so I grabbed my favorite shorts and called it a day. I’ll try to use this pattern again soon, but with a different fabric and print. This Memorial Day look is @simplicity_creative_group #mccallsm7900. I sewed the neckline and length of view C with the sleeves of view B. I'm continuously searching for buttondown shirts that add a little pizzaz (that keeps autocorrecting to pizza) to my work wear looks. This was a bit of a risk since I made what is meant to be a woven shirt with a knit Swiss dot fabric. They say don't do darts on knits, and after I sewed this shirt I kind of understood why. It was a fun experiment with a new pattern. Woven version coming soon! Sews: I love this neckline so much! So princess-y Grows: Ugh the polyester. Headed the arboretum this weekend to kick off the annual “Is climate change making it too hot to live here?” heat wave in my #m7900. I love the Capitol columns, though most of our time was spent trying to avoid sunburn by finding shade in the Bonsai Museum. You can see my “oh my god am I already red” face on the last slide Like the Liberty version, this top was intended to be a transitional 3-season piece. For whatever reason, possibly the additional button, it feels infinitely more wearable. //Sewing a bonkers bright loungewear set// Sharing some stills of these makes to chat more about the top pattern, the #m7900 by @mccallpatterncompany . I usually use patterns from indie pattern makers but for a while I've been wanting something more fitted and had no joy, I think I've avoided the big 3 pattern companies partially because the instructions aren't always as clear but mainly because I dislike tissue paper pattern pieces! Alas, i loved the shape so much i decided to give it a whirl. Bonus points that it's designed for super easy to work with fabric like cotton (this is @ladymcelroyfabrics from @minervadotcom ) So, mainly, my beef with this pattern is just really simple things like it'll tell you to sew a seam but doesn't tell you to finish it (even though the word "finish seam" is in the glossary) which was annoying as It was a guess at points to figure out whether some seams would be hidden by a facing or not. A small gripe i know, but all they had to do was write, "finish" and a lot of head scratching would be saved. Maybe this is standard and I've just been pampered will the indie designers writing such clear instructions. Other than that , on a positive note, the fit is👌👌👌 I've struggled with top fitting as I have narrow shoulders and a small overbust/underarm..agh totally forgot the terminology..compared to full bust measurement so with some patterns I've used the bigger cup option but the garment has drowned me. This time I sized down but used the bigger cup pattern piece and I didn't have to make any alterations, hurrah! Saying that, id take a smidge out of the shoulder height next time. I did my standard narrow shoulder adjustment and shortened the waist length. The pattern includes options for sleeves and also no ruffles if clown core isn't your aesthetic (but ask yourself, why not?) The trousers are my 1st attempt at the Lane pants that everyone in the sewing world is making, and so they should because the fit is perfect 👌 these are the original pattern, no mods, I love the extra wide width in this fabric, swish central.

Inspired by the 18th Century Brunswick, I made this top (finally!) out of a colonial inspired cotton I’ve had in my stash for half a decade. I used the the #mccalls7900 as the base, but at this point, I’ve redrafted everything from the sleeves to the length to the peplum flare should I choose to wear this untucked. And if I so chose, I could add lacy waterfall cuffs and be extra fancy. The skirt is the bottom half of a #nightanddaydress by @gertie18, which is officially a tried a true skirt pattern for me. The belt is a bit of elastic with a buckle I picked up at @joann_stores. Tucked in, it looks a little “the new look,” no? If I don’t finish my next project, this will be my Easter outfit. In theory, loved the idea of it as a transitional top for both work and play. In reality, the crop is CROPPED. My jeans aren’t as high rise as needed, and these pants are barely okay. I do love a puff sleeve though to balance out the rest of my torso I tried to get out of doing a small FBA by stealing from the center front seam allowance, and by the pulling you can’t tell that didn’t work. I am wondering if cutting an 18 for the shoulders and length but a 20 for the width would be the cheater FBA I’m looking for. Pants aren’t me made but they are me hemmed? Modified McCall M7900 - size 18D (approx. 44). I have lengthened the sleeves and added drop slits and button cuffs. And doubled the number of buttons. J'ai cousu le top M7900 de @mccallpatterncompany ce printemps 🌼 Ce que j'adore dans ce patron McCalls, c'est qu'ils incluent la taille de bonnet ce qui est assez rare. J'ai utilisé une popeline de coton qui vient de chez @driessenstoffen.nl pour ne pas changer. 🙈 J'aime beaucoup ce modèle, mais pour être tout à fait honnête, je le déteste sur moi. Je trouve qu'il ne me met pas du tout en valeur et les manches ballon c'est clairement pas pour moi. J'essaierai peut-être la version A sans les manches volantés ou en guise de base pour le haut d'une robe ou d'une combinaison par exemple. This was made with @mccallpatterncompany #M7900 with fabric I found in the remnants section at @hobbylobby. I’m proud of the construction, I think it’s well made. However when I make this top again I think I’ll narrow the back panel as I think it’s a tad bit wide. Overall quite happy with it and would recommend this pattern. #brookemccalls

A lemon top for a Harry Styles concert 🍋! This is #m7900 in a lemon print quilting cotton from Spotlight. I honestly was in a bit of rush when making this and I think the overall construction and fit reflects this: the button band doesn't quite match up and the sleeves don't lie flat. I initially cut out a ruffled sleeve, but they ended up looking more like pool floaties in this fabric, so I cut them down to the length of the armhole. I still love this top though! It finally gave me an excuse to use the automatic buttonhole foot on my machine and the fabric was an accidental perfect match for these sunflower buttons 🌻
