S9913 1950s Dress
This vintage 1950's one-piece dress has a collar and bodice cut in one. The sleeveless design features a lapped front closing above center front seam and tapered collar at center back. The flared skirt includes patch pockets, with View 1 having soutache braid trim and View 2 featuring top stitched pockets buttoned to the skirt.

S9913 I was feeling much better towards the end of this week and I made a little dress for my upcoming holiday. A friend showed me the pattern she was hacking and I realised it would make a great light to pack, cool, but still vintagey-feminine holiday outfit. I also had some half price Liberty Tana Lawn that was calling to me from my fabric stash. It’s quite a quick and easy make, but both my friend and I thought the instructions for joining the front shoulders and collar to the back were impossible. The front collar and shoulders are faced and turned before you attach the back and it’s facing. I solved that by facing and turning both the front and back, then slip-stitching the two together by hand. I wasn’t keen on the giant pockets to start with. I was going to omit them but I had enough left over fabric so I made them and I’m glad I did. They are interfaced and that bit of stiffness over the side seams makes the skirt stick out as if you were wearing a small petticoat. The button detail adds interest and ties the skirt together thematically with the single big button on the front. I had to tilt the pocket slightly so that the button wouldn’t get in the way of the side zip, but was definitely not doing the snap detail suggested by the pattern as that would have led to embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions 🤣 #S9913 #vintagesewing #libertytanalawn #sewover50

As soon as I saw this upholstery Printed Canvas in Blk/Red, I fell in love with it. Lately I have been very inspired by the style of Lucille Ball’s 1950’s fashion and to achieve this, I mixed two vintage patterns to be worn as separates. I wanted to be able to mix and match this beautiful fabric with other pieces in my wardrobe so I could wear them again and again. I’m so happy with how they turned out. There was a huge release of big 4 patterns. I’m still too sick to sew (thanks HG 🙄) but once I’m feeling fully better, I will probably pick these up! #s9913 would be sooo beautiful in a floral print. I know exactly what I want to do, but ofc, I’ll have to wait until after I have the baby to ensure it fits properly :p. #s9905 would be a beautiful gift for a baby girl. If I find out that this baby is a girl, I think I’ll make this :) also for others baby showers. #m8494 as someone who makes almost everything (including breads and pasta) from scratch, I’m a sucker for aprons.
