When you buy 8 yards of fabric and your dining room table is only 4 yards long.... then it’s time to lay out the children’s clothes and start from there. Project 2 of my Pfaff week, this is a seersucker top for my youngest granddaughter. The floral design was created on the Pfaff Creative Icon using the shape creator. I used a flower shape and filled it in with a decorative stitch, then a circle shape for the next one and filled in with another decorative element. The inside is a mini embroidery design to complete the design. Look at the hem, that is a lace technique, doesn’t it add so much to this little top? I used matching embroidery thread in the bobbin and wash a way stabilizer. The key I found was to use the start stop button and let the machine do the rest. I love the combination of embellishment with the seersucker. I have to give credit for the shape creator to all the valuable lessons with @embroidery_mom Pattern... I think I’ve settled on my favourite method of sewing elastic waistbands... it only took 4 pairs of baby/toddler leggings and 4 pairs of scrubs trousers to decide: overlock the elastic loop to the wrong side, fold and zigzag top stitch 👌🏻 As for hemming leggings I’d usually fold inwards and twin needle top stitch but this cobra printed jersey from @fabworksmillshop was too good an opportunity for a double folded contrast cuff! Remember the felt balls? This is what I used them for. Baby girl looked lovely in this dress for her naming ceremony. I adapted the pattern to line the bodice and include 4 layers of tulle over the skirt lining. The outer tulle is a tube that holds the felt balls. I did have to make the pockets larger thank the pattern piece. I wanted the pockets to be a statement and I ❤️the look of the oversized pockets. . I started with just over 1/2 a metre of this fabric ( this is view C & calls for a metre). I cut out a couple of masks for my daughter ( as she bought the fabric for that purpose 🤣) & looked at what I had left (the fabric was a remnant so she bought more than the 1/4m I asked for ) .. I thought this would be a cute toddler dress & I reckon I can make #S8304 with a bit of creative cutting, so I skipped the pockets & shortened the length ( because I originally wanted a tunic to allow knees to crawl) , added a contrast butterfly sleeve & lined the bodice with a lawn in the stash & pieced & patched a few areas that weren’t quite the right shape ( which you really can’t see). Fabric is a #jocelynproustdesigns from @spotlightstores . “Mummy I want to wear a sparkly ballet dress” This was Emily’s request on Sunday morning so she could wear her ballet shoes. Luckily I had this dress cut out already and have made this pattern so many times before I could do it with my eyes closed. The ribbed jersey has been in my stash for ages from @ohsewshop . I picked up the glitter tulle from @fabricgodmother (along with the pink and blue. So there will be more sparkly dresses) The pattern is Simplicity 8304. The pattern is for woven fabrics. To make to for jersey I cut the back piece on the fold and removed the seam allowance from the neckline. I cut a neckband a little shorter than the neck in a navy ribbing. The dress is based on a Zara dress she got at Christmas. I love the combination of soft jersey and sparkle. While I am sharing kids clothes I want to share these makes with some beautiful jersey gifted by @the_rag_shop This fabric was included in an order I placed at Christmas as a gift for Emily 🥰 I know, she is already getting fabric sent to her! Lol! I had had many conversations with Steph about how much Emily loves the colour pink and this jersey is just perfect. It is very very soft and quite thick, so ideal for a dress and leggings at this time of year. I used the same pattern as the previous post- Simplicity 8304 but adapted for jersey. I used the longer skirt length here and it is a bit too long, but emily only grows up the way so it will probably still fit her next winter! I used the leggings from the same pattern but added cuffs to the bottom to lengthen them a bit. And the hair band is also included. Oh! Bear models the baby’s #s8304 dress from Simplicity’s Baby Gear pattern. Flanking Bear are the dresses for Big Sister and Bigger Cousin. These are #b6314, which is a new pattern. I’m waiting for a package of satin roses to arrive, with which I’ll embellish all 3 dresses. I also need to decide exactly how I want to put lace at the hems. I worked on these off and on until 2AM last night, and I’m pleased. The fabric is a stretch velvet from @fabricwholesaledirect . It’s very heavy, soft and beautiful. I’m actually contemplating making myself a winter dressing gown from the same fabric, albeit possibly in a different color.
