All aboard the rainbow ruffle train! 🌈🚂 The past few weeks I’ve been seeing so many colourful rainbow ruffle dresses. Sometimes it’s okay to make something a little ridiculous that’s not for everyday wear even if you do end up looking like a piñata. It’s what makes you happy that really counts and this outfit does just that plus it has pockets. Almost a year ago now, my first ever post on Instagram was of Mitchell and Luka in matching golden gaytime outfits using the @elliewhittakerstudio fabric. By the time I made it after purchasing the fabric it went on clearance and disappeared before I could buy more to make myself something. I’ve felt left out as they’ve been out in their outfits looking super cool and I am not included. However sad story over I finally found the fabric again! I was doing some late night Thursday shopping at spotlight a few weeks ago and they had their fat quarters 10 for $10. Normally I stay clear as it’s always so messy from people going through it but it was freshly stocked and neat so I went for a browse. I happen to stumble across the golden gaytime fabric and got all 10. Now I can finally be included in the golden gaytime gang 🥳 I ended up using 8 to complete this dress and have 2 left over to make Finn something so he can be included too. I made a toile for this pattern #s9703 using my Walmart find fabric which was in my stash. I raised the neckline as it was too low. I learned how to use the rolled hem foot for the flounce on my sewing machine which was really easy after a few tries. I am definitely going to use it whenever I need a narrow hem. I shortened the skirt (1st layer) and added a tier. I had to piece fabric to achieve the desired width of the ruffle as I didn’t have sufficient fabric as per the recommended yardage. Fabric is a chiffon so it’s flowy and light and I love how it feels. My favorite part of the dress is the neckline and flounce.

Second wedding dress blog post went live this week! This was my take on *that* Self Portrait Azalea dress. I used the bodice off the Simplicity #S9703 dress pattern as the base for the top half (thanks @clairesews for the rec!) which was then modded and toiled to be as form fitting as possible. I added self covered buttons and elastic loop tape to the back over the zip for that bridal feel. The velvet ribbon was a last minute addition at the bride’s request!
