This was the first dress I made for my niece's wedding yesterday as I wasn't sure I could pull off my first choice. In the end, I changed into this dress to swish around on the dance floor in the evening. It's Simplicity #S9642 in #lamazifabrics 'Summer Party' Lupine petals in green viscose crêpe. I love the fabric but the dress is a slightly loose as I lost a few pounds since I made it. I may take it in a little. The sleeve gathering into the cuff is interesting. #lamazimakers

My new dress 👗 It's the @simplicity_creative_group #S9642 I made a size 14 and B cup. The only adjustment I made was letting out some seams on the skirt pannel because I like a little looser fit around the belly/ hips area. The fabric is from my stash, and I think it might be a small Swiss dot. Just don't know since I can't even remember when I bought it. #memademay2024day10 this was meant to have been for Christmas 2023 (a wearable toile), but I didn’t get a chance to make it, so I committed to making it up at the start of the year ready for Christmas 2024. It’s not great, pattern matching is non-existent, and I need to try and pull the shoulders in a little, but otherwise I’m pleased I got it made up and can wear it (should I choose 🤦🏼‍♀️). Simplicity S9642 I purchased this @teliofashion viscose fabric from fabric.com before they closed. I knew that I wanted to make something before Valentine’s Day. I decided to make @simplicity_creative_group #s9642 in view b with view a sleeves. I made a size 12, I omitted the neck facing and used bias binding instead. I looked over the instructions before I started but didn’t really follow them as I sewed. It was a pretty straight forward make. I do think I could have sized down but I didn’t want it to be too snug. If I make this again I think I would try a size 10 with short sleeves and shorter length. Another new make that we have is the @simplicitymccallsaustralia #s9642 dress made in a rayon from @eastcoasttextiles . This sat unfinished for ages, but we have finally finished it, and are thrilled with it! Instead of doing the pleated sleeves included with the pattern, they are just gathered into the sleeve head with an elastic casing at the bottom. My latest creation - I made this to wear to my graduation. It was also my first one making some major changes to a pattern. I used #S9642 for the bodice, editing the back and sleeves to simplify the look. Then added a long full skirt. I like the look, but I’ll make a few more changes to the next one, I’m trying to get that #1930s silhouette- but make it #PlusSize

Why didn't I look this cute on the day of graduation?! 😫😫🤦🏽‍♀️🙈🤣🤣🤣 Who am I kidding, I know exactly why 😆. I got the date for my nephew's graduation about 2 mths or so in advance but after my sewing high in May I kinda fell into a lull. I was also plagued with indecision. I decided on this gorgeous fabric pretty early but went back and forth on the pattern. I finally started working on this the day before the graduation. I used #S9643 for the main dress and #B6763 View B for the sleeves. This pattern came with cup sizes up to a DD which is a great start but not quite near the G/H cup that I need. I was short on time and did not want to fuss with an FBA, especially on a bodice style I had never done it before so I picked a size that would have enough ease at the bust and did a narrow shoulder adjustment. I also decided to add a kind of waistband section seen in a lot of dresses recently by just cutting the top off the skirt panels and adding seam allowances. I would have refined this a bit if I had time. I omitted the ruffle knowing I would have no time for gathers and just extended the skirt a few inches. The sleeve from B6763 only went up to a size 32W which fit but did not give enough flutter so I widened the sleeve. I chose a size 36W for S9643. I did a quick muslin of the bodice and the sleeve and sprayed my fabric with a stiffener to make it easier to cut out the flowy rayon fabric. I think it worked out ok in the moment but it was hard to spray 4 yrds of fabric. Some areas did not get enough and some got too much. Some areas are still stiff, but not enough to ruin the drape. I started the actual sewing of the final fabric on the day of the graduation and finished about an hour before it was due to start 🙈. I had to cut some corners mainly the hemming. I did a rolled hem on the skirt and the sleeves which I want to go back and fix. Hoping to get the neckline to lay better and be less revealing when seated. I am just happy I had something to wear at the end because I didn't really have a backup plan 😬😅. Hopefully, I can tweak the little issues and soon because I think this dress is going to look great with boots for fall.

I wanted a warm feel dress and this fine needlecord is perfect for autumn/winter. I used Simplicity pattern 9642 and even though the suggested fabrics are rayon, velvet, and silky types, I decided to try making it out of this corduroy. I found the pattern was quite oversized so had to take in the bodice quite a bit . I love the sleeves which are quite dramatic made out of this slightly thicker fabric. The only changes I made to it were lengthening the top tier of the skirt by 2 inches and the frill by the same amount. I also added a few buttons down the front for a bit more detail.
