This was one of the very first patterns I bought when I started sewing clothes a couple of years ago. It's New Look 6340 which has a tie at the back (which you can't really see here) and pockets! Pattern: @simplicitymccallsuk New Look 6340 view D Chopped a few inches off the length but otherwise made as pattern. If I were to make this again I would take in the side seams a bit, I french seamed this so there was no chance I was unpicking all of that 😂 There is a bit of an issue with the neckline, it doesn't sit quite right so I would need to figure out how to improve that too, and possibly lower the V as well. I haven't made many big 4 patterns but I have to say I do prefer using indie patterns which tend to have more thoughtful instructions. Plus the tissue paper patterns are quite fiddly to use for someone as clumsy as me 🙈 I did love how floaty this dress is though and have reached for it a fair bit this summer. Fabric: This lovely drapey floral viscose from @rainbowfabrickilburn which was great to sew with. #NewLook6340 #N6340 #NL6340 #RainbowFabricKilburn #Viscose #Deadstock #NewLookPatterns #SewistsOfInstagram #MillenialSewing #SewScottish #SewLondon #MeMade

Excited to finally cut into this fun pomegranate print cotton linen blend fabric. Maybe tomorrow. It's late now. Husband off on a boys camping weekend = more time to sew 😝 This will be a New Look 6340. Mash up between View A & View B. Because I can never just choose one version and make it easier on myself 😂 View B calls for 2.5m, but queen of tetris & not following the guide means I can fit it onto just over 2m & should have enough left over to make a cute bag or purse perhaps 😍 #sewingthings #sewing #sewyougoodthing #learningtosew #newlookpatterns #n6340 #

Pomegranate 🍎 (there's no emoji) I 'finished' the dress last weekend, but hated the fit (see last photo on the form). it was too stiff & boxy, far too much fabric in the waist & skirt. It needed shape. I had an idea (darts), I researched the different types during the week & came upon fisheye darts. I threw the dress on inside out one night, pinned as best I could just at the mid/waist point, 1 dart each side, front & back, & then had to make sure I could I get it back off over my boobs as there is no zip. Success was had (also much ouch of pins into every body part during disrobing). I took it back to sewing room, took some quick measurements of what I pinned poorly & averaged it across each dart front & back. Measured how far up & down to go (I went lightly higher up the back ones than the front) Tried to equalise them from the centre front & back seam, pinned them all up properly & did another try on for ability to get on & off, all seemed good. I didn't sew them straight away as it was late & sewing tired never achieved greatness. Got to them today, sewed them up, tied them off, pressed them flat, tried her on & she fits so much better! She has shape & the tie to the rear isn't pulling 4inches of fabric behind me (and pulling the pockets to the back) anymore to get the shape! Pockets stayed on the sides, i can get her on & off easily enough.there's still a little bit too much material under the boobs & in the upper back width (should have sized down), but with normal body & fabric movement it's not too noticeable. My only reserve is the length, I should have gone with the longer version. This falls a few inches above the knee & with the flare it feels a little short. But that's a me thing. After I tried it on, I vaguely remembered using the same pattern (different view/neckline) to piece together another dress & I ended up adding lace & an extra panel to that for the extra length. I do have some pomegranate fabric left over so I could do similar. I'll see how I feel. 🤔🤔 Fabric: pomegranate on peach background, linen from @spotlightstores Pattern: New Look 6340 B length, A neckline #pomegranatedress #newlookpatterns #newlook6340 #n6340 #sewingthings
