Yesterday's mostly #memade outfit for a friend's Eurovision party 🎉 I made a European folk outfit inspired by the Norwegian bunad 🇳🇴. I made the waistcoat and skirt, the blouse was from a charity shop. I used #simplicityk8219 for the waistcoat, made with corduroy faric from the stash and beautiful iron-on flower patches bought from Ebay.🥀🏵️ For the skirt I used my trusted Vogue #v9090 skirt pattern decorated with a trim I've hoarded for years. I've been working on a brown linen dress this weekend. Photo 1️⃣ is my doodle, and I've made this twice before. I've finished the skirt, and I used the @tillybuttons Lyra dress skirt pattern. This is the PERFECT tiered skirt, the tiers length, and gathering ratio are 🤩😍 I've added a button extension and placket, and I've used the pocket pieces from Vogue #V9090 (which is a skirt pattern), because I like these pockets that attach to the waist seam. Photos 2️⃣, 3️⃣ and 4️⃣. Photo 7️⃣ is the sleeve on the first of these dresses that I made. I love this dress!! 😍 Photos 5️⃣ and 6️⃣ are the central section of the sleeves, and I got the trim on Etsy. Man, those pleats look so schmick I’m reluctant to topstitch them. I unpicked this stitching because it was a bit unruly, and tried other methods of protecting the ends including little embroidered crosses and hand sewn bartacks but think the stitched rectangle is probably necessary to avoid distressing the pleat. Trust me — they get hammered and my well-worn black #v9090 is a case in point. Not disastrous but probably inevitable. Maybe using a more robust topstitchy kind of thread would look better. And I think it has to be black. None of this is according to plan but that’s sewing, hey? My fourth incarnation and sticking with the inverted box pleats without a yoke that I drafted for the last version, and YAY remembered to cut for deeper folds this time with an extra 6.5cm each side. Annoyingly, the school I now work at has a uniform very similar to my M&M plaid #v9090 so I no longer wear it to work — but I do love seeing hundreds of them walking around! Epic skirt for prancing around at the homestead. Two people commented on it at work, which is one more than the average. It’s a #v9090 hack with inverted box pleats and a high waist to keep me warm in this Victorian clime. I nailed the length with a 10cm hem — it’s a little shorter than usual and absolutely perfect. I took advantage of my higher-energy season and sewed a lot of clothes this summer. This skirt was by far the coolest of all the things. I wore two me-made garments today and love how they look together. Top- my first @tillybuttons #SewingAgnes in a cotton jersey from @minervadotcom The neckband on this one was slightly too long and it doesn’t sit quite flush but I corrected it for my second stripy one. Skirt - @simplicitymccallsuk Vogue #V9090 made in a Joules cotton from the sale at @hobbycrafthq I cut the length halfway between views A and B to create my perfect midi length (I’m only 5 ft 2) I cut the size based on my measurements but it has turned out a couple of inches too big and I would size down when I make it again. This version sits on my hips rather than my natural waist. I love the giant pockets sewn into the waistband - I will definitely use this pocket piece on other projects. How many Laurence Tops are too many Laurence Tops? This is the fourth version of the #laurencetop by @vivianshaochen I made and I don't think it will be my last. I just love the simplicity and versatility of it - it can be dressed up (with a light jacket or blazer) or down (e.g. with comfy #bisquetrousers). The fabric is Midsummer linen from @merchantandmills and it may just be my favourite variety yet. The subtle yellow and light blue always bring to my mind childhood memories of fields full of almost ripe wheat against the light blue skies of an early summer morning and I just love it so much. I made this #voguepatterns #v9090 #vogue9090 skirt in the summer. Made a “couture” hair canvas and boned waistband ( and then unpicked the side seams to make the next size down 😩) and added a lining. Jacquard fabric from #minervacrafts and lining from #backstitchfabrics. In the end it was way too hot to wear it at the event I made it for in July, so it got an outing last week. With a last minute addition of #newlookpatterns #n6657 in teal (obvs) duchess satin from #abakhanfabrics

Getting there. Vogue 9090 eat your heart out. I raised the waist to make up for the lack of waistband and wanted it to sit higher. I made the skirt from two sections rather than four as I didn’t want to have to match the plaid at the centre back and front, but honestly it couldn’t have been worse than French seams with inseam pockets and side zip. Hand sewn bias binding neatens off the zip and the pockets are just a little Quasimodo but I’m just going to have to hunker into them. I have to even up the pleats a bit — I wasn’t sure if I was going to lengthen the sewn down bit but I think it’s quite flattering at the level they’re at now. Length of skirt will be just up from maxi to avoid looking too Little Women 2019, and I say that like it’s a bad thing! I was going to put some pintucks about 20cm up from the hem, but once again maybe that’s just a bit too much like I’m about to scamper over to Teddy’s. It’s an epic skirt and I’m thinking I’m going to love it. Drive home. He’s now impatient inside the garage all dry and calling “321 smile!” He’s about to sprint out and grab the recycling bags you see behind me (oooh the glamour) and he isn’t entirely chuffed at being my photographer today. MeMadeMay photos aren’t our strongest suit but…I made him a dressing gown…so he owes me. Meanwhile my wise little black cat stays indoors sitting on my fabric and looking better on it than I do in it. Back to business. I’m getting SO much wear from this make. The jacket deets are a short stroll down my grid with close ups of buttons and all that yummy stuff. #vogue9090 skirt made from 1.8m of faux suede knit from @minervadotcom This skirt has a lined yoke in place of a waistband, pleats to front and back rather than gathers 👌🏻 pockets and an invisible zip at CB. I cut pockets from lining fabric so they’re nice and slippy against the suede. I didn’t hem the skirt, just cut a clean raw edge with the rotary cutter as I would if it was a genuine hide. No hemming…does it get any better? Working on the cutest wearable toile ever. I have nothing to wear with it, but once the idea was in my head I had to proceed. Vogue 9090, a pleated skirt.
