Mr. S. in his #v8890 💜 This was a bittersweet project. I've always wanted to sew him a tailored suit jacket. When his dad passed away last month, it seemed that a well-fitting jacket sewn with great love would be a comforting gift. I didn't know when I began how difficult a month it would be, or how difficult a project this was. I struggled through the steps, doing things over twice or even three times, while the days seemed to swirl around me. Today we gathered with family and friends to celebrate the memory of my Father-in-law. Tim & I were privileged to lead the hymn. Near the end of our time together the dark sky broke open, and the sun shone. The cousins chased all around while the adults had one more cup of coffee and wished each other safe journey home. I made my son a Lloyd costume from Dumb and Dumber. I used a vogue pattern for the jacket and pants. It was #v8890. It probably wasn't the best choice for a costume just because there are a lot of pieces and it is a more complicated pattern. I thought I'd just skip a few things and make it simpler. Which I did, but it was still not an easy make. I would definitely like to use it to make him and my husband actual suits some day. So I suppose I could consider this a wearable toile. The bow tie is from simplicity, #s7030. I just made a false shirt front that we attached with safety pins. Which according to my mom is called a dickey, I guess? I didn't use a pattern for it but just measured the jacket opening and estimated about how big it should be. My daughter is dressed as Elizabeth Swann from Pirates of the Caribbean. She sewed most of her dress herself. I had to help with the finishing touches because she ran out of time and I wouldn't let her stay home from school to finish it.😊 It is also a simplicity pattern #s3725. I love this new Liberty linen blazer sooo much! ✨💕🔥 It’s lightweight, but with plenty of drape and body from the hair canvas interfacing, cotton lawn underlining and some fusible interfacing too. 🌬🌺😅 . . Liberty’s Augusta linen is super lightweight. I ended up using some pre-shrunk cotton woven fusible interfacing for all the bodice and sleeve pieces, in addition to white cotton lawn underlining. The result is a lightweight jacket without being floppy or flimsy. . . Redrafting the pattern pieces (of Burda 6872) in order to move the center back vent to two side vents was a fun challenge 🤓📜📐 In the end it seemed easier than making a muslin and doing fit adjustments for an entirely new pattern (Vogue 8890). I also drafted new interfacing and front facing/lining pattern pieces based on #V8890 for #Burda6872. . . I always end up trying something new in each thing I make. Men’s Blazer 🖤 My second memade gift this year is this blazer for my boyfriend. It’s a lovely black wool with grey speckles in it - so difficult to photograph! This is the third time I’m making this jacket and it definitely getting a tiny bit easier every time. It has back vents, vents on the cuffs with working buttons and welt pockets on the inside. Working on a summer unlined cotton jacket using #V8890

I’m excited to share my new Liberty linen blazer with you! 🌼🌸🌻 I’ve been sharing bits of the process in my stories over the past week as I’ve been constructing this beaut. I got the buttons on today and snapped some photos out back 📸 . . This jacket started as Vogue 8890 because I liked the silhouette with the side vents and wanted to try something new 🧥 After tracing out the pattern and making adjustments, I decided to revert back to my tried and true Burda 6872 pattern and make my modifications there ✏️📏 This jacked is a hybrid of the two patterns with the following features/adjustments: ✂️ side vents (instead of center back vent) ✂️ chest/hankerchief pocket ✂️ notched lapel ✂️ canvas interfacing for fronts and under collar ✂️ front facing with pockets ✂️ functional lined sleeve vents . . I stumbled upon some fantastic blog posts on canvas interfacing and taping the jacket roll line from @gksagenda.
