While browsing the isles of @joann_stores I came across these two flannel butterfly prints 🦋 I’m a fan of some good whimsy. As I shared in my last two posts, I’ve modified the #newlook6292 into a shirt dress. The whimsey seemed to call for some slightly belled sleeves so I modified those (flared the arms by 3” extra). I’m my last post I mentioned needing to create a facing to accommodate the back hem curve so I did that. . Here’s a recap (from 2 posts ago) on how I modified my original #newlook6292 . The pattern has several top variations so lengthened it by 5” and saw what happened. Well, the slits were a little too high for my comfort and the boxy dual length hem didn’t look great on the sides (just aesthetically since it was falling on my thighs rather than my hips) so I lengthened the slits to just 2” above the hem and rounded out the back hem — much better but the 1” hem didn’t want to fit (due to the big curve) without having to gather it on the inner edge so I made a note to make a facing for that piece next time. . While browsing the isles of @joann_stores I came across these two flannel retro prints. Im not usually color/pattern person but I love retro and can do colors if they’re toasted/tea stained (have a hint of brown shade to them). Anyway, as I shared in my last post, I’ve modified the #newlook6292 into a shirt dress (you can read more about my process in my last post). For this retro print, I decided I wanted the sleeves slightly belled to match the vibe so I modified those (flared the arms by 3” extra). I’m my last post I mentioned needing to create a facing to accommodate the back hem curve so I did that and enjoyed adding the colorful checker print to that. Additionally, I ran out of fabric for the back body piece to all fit so I created a top panel and a back loop so I could merge the two. If I do ever make muslins, they’re wearable muslins so this was my wearable muslin for the #newlook6292 . The pattern has several top variations so lengthened it by 5” and saw what happened.
