All ready for her school excursion to experience the Gold Rush era in Australia (1850-1910). I made her dress using Simplicity 3725 in a cotton chambray from @brians_fabrics and the floral print was in the stash. She is living out my childhood fantasy of being Laura in Little House on the Prairie 🏡 Last photo is with her friend who borrowed the dress I made two years ago when my older daughter went on the same excursion. It was a very straightforward dress to sew and I made a size 10 based on her measurements. The hardest and most time consuming costume to make was the wardrobe!! It was immensely satisfying to see her singing up a storm and strutting the stage! I made my son a Lloyd costume from Dumb and Dumber. I used a vogue pattern for the jacket and pants. It was #v8890. It probably wasn't the best choice for a costume just because there are a lot of pieces and it is a more complicated pattern. I thought I'd just skip a few things and make it simpler. Which I did, but it was still not an easy make. I would definitely like to use it to make him and my husband actual suits some day. So I suppose I could consider this a wearable toile. The bow tie is from simplicity, #s7030. I just made a false shirt front that we attached with safety pins. Which according to my mom is called a dickey, I guess? I didn't use a pattern for it but just measured the jacket opening and estimated about how big it should be. My daughter is dressed as Elizabeth Swann from Pirates of the Caribbean. She sewed most of her dress herself. I had to help with the finishing touches because she ran out of time and I wouldn't let her stay home from school to finish it.😊 It is also a simplicity pattern #s3725. This has been a good Ekka day 🎡 A completely satisfying nerdy sewing day for my daughter’s upcoming excursion to “The Goldfields” in a couple of weeks. The children are encouraged to dress in period costume, so I needed no more encouragement to go to Spotlight and get this Simplicity 3725 pattern (on sale ✔️).
