I am a sucker for soft, fuzzy fabric. I can’t resist, no matter how messy it is to sew with. Tiny fibers all over my machine and up my nose are no hindrance, when cozy is on the line! Even so, I will admit that this chenille sweater knit fabric was a bit messier than anticipated. But I love the end result! This fabric was gifted from Minerva in exchange for a post. I initially thought it would work for a sweater dress, but unlined, it wouldn't be opaque enough. I ended up deciding to make the @mccallpatterncompany #M7476 cardigan pattern into a vest, which works out well considering we are in the middle of the #SewnWithMcCalls challenge over on the @minervadotcom website. The looser knit requires a little care in handling the fabric as you sew, but nothing extraordinary. I have washed this fabric on a delicate cycle and it comes through great. I've made the cardigan version of M7476 before, so I knew it was a good starting point for my vest. I sewed the long view with the folded collar in size L. The pattern has a drop shoulder, but I ended up carving the shoulder in by about two inches at the top, tapering to the under arm. The chenille with the bold stripes gives me some early 00s vibes. Is sewing sweaters my new favorite thing? Possibly! I loooove long cardigans in the fall, and this was such an easy make. I made a size L on the top and graded to a M at the hips. I love the roominess of it, but the sleeves are a bit too long on me, so I will shorten them next time. I also need to figure out how to eliminate the puckers/rippling that happened when I stitched the facing down. Last week I made a coatigan. I have been wanting a one ever since I saw a rtw coatigan at @justjeans Of course being a typical sewist I thought I could make that!😳 At the time finding a knit jacket pattern was so hard. I wanted a notched collar but I couldn't find a suitable pattern for knits anywhere. So I settled on #m7476 It was close. I found the fabric at an op shop some time back. It's a bit like a ponti but it's rough like wool. I really don't know what it is. It's a very boxy jacket so I made a tie and belt loops to give it some shape. McCall’s 7476 in stretch wool - ultimate cosy ankle-length easy sew coat! I realise that’s a lot of adjectives 😅 but all true! I received the wool free in exchange for a review on @minervadotcom and you can read more about it on my profile on their website. In the meantime I will say that this is a great autumn coat - it’s not lined, but nice and long to keep you warm. It came together super easily. I topstitched all the seams for a faux flat-felled approach and it feels nice and sturdy. I have the perfect leopard print button just waiting to go on centre front but I couldn’t resist wearing it out as-is for now. I always say this but I can’t wait to make another version! Yup, another Pinterest inspiration!!! This is what I love about sewing... I can make it!!! To achieve this look I used a McCall’s M7476 cardigan View B. I was debating on fabric choice, between a coating wool and a plush fleece. I choose wool from Joann as this gives more thinner yet expensive look, when on other hand fleece will be more thicker( yes, warmer) but look cheaper. The tunic dress is the same exactly pattern!!! Slightly modified 😁. I did make it shorter. Change the neck line to basic round and add thick collar to get big turtleneck. I can’t believe it took me soo long to finally purchase Sicily Slip Dress pattern but I did made this asymmetrical snake skin skirt ... haha ... sss... 🤣🤣 and long black cardigan and what I needed was top. I’ve been working away on my pieces for #thegreatmodulesewalong and today I’m sharing my topper! I decided a long cardigan would be versatile in my wardrobe, and I wanted my topper to be easy and quick considering I’m embarking on sewing my first pair of jeans for this module. • Before you read about the details, take a deep breath and soak in this amazing view from my in-law’s Alaskan home! Okay, back to sewing. • The Fabric: I chose a bandage rib knit from @minervadotcom in a bottle green color. It’s a perfect dark teal green that will match a lot of items in my closet beyond the module. It’s completely opaque, but still pretty lightweight. This will make a great transitional piece going from winter to spring when it’s a little too warm for a sweater, but layers are still needed. • The Pattern: I used @mccallpatterncompany #M7476 which has a few length and collar variations with a drop sleeve and patch pockets. This pattern was so easy to whip up and exactly what I was looking for! I opted not to add the button closure to the front because I’ll wear this open. My one regret is the placement of the patch pockets in the pattern. They seem a little too far to the side for the correct visual proportions. Even if I buttoned the cardigan, it looks like the pockets are arguing siblings trying to get as far away from each other as possible. For now, I’m leaving them, but I may take the time to move them later. • Overall, I’m happy with this make and I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of it! To post or not to post was the question of the morning. I sewed up Vogue 8772 in a chiffon fabric picked up at my local Joann fabrics along with this gray sweater knit . I have been wanting to sew a pussy bow blouse for a while and decided to give it a try. The pattern is fantastic and a great fit but the fabric choice looks a bit matronly. Perhaps in a satin for the holidays?? I will definitely be making a collar version because the fit is perfection. The sweater knit cardigan is McCall 7476 and I know it will get a lot of wear.
