Whoa🤩 How gorrrrr-jusssss is this @patternemporium_kate #pewanderlustdress I whipped up this afternoon?!?! I rarely wear dresses and therefore haven’t made too many that I’ve actually kept but wow. This one’s a keeper. (Actually, the only other one that I’ve kept was another Pattern Emporium pattern, the Dream on dress👍🏻) I bought this pattern ages ago after seeing Whitney’s versions on her channel @tomkatstitcherycarmel and really wanted to give it a try. And here it is! I freaking love it! The fabric is a mystery bundle from Walmart, 3 yards for $8 I think and I’m pretty sure it’s a rayon spandex. I didn’t have high hopes for it so was using it as a toile, but man, have I been pleasantly surprised! It’s really nice and sewed so well on the overlocker. The plan was to make a midi length, which is what I cut out, but it’s come up maxi and I don’t hate it. I still have to hem it, but that won’t change things much. The colour!!! 🥰🥰🥰 Hopefully it’s opaque enough to wear out. Hubby says it’s fine, sooo….we’ll see. Still granny sitting in PA so there’s been lots of toile-ing happening over the last 3 weeks. I finished this dress early on during #memademay and posted a little sneak peak then, however thought I would showcase it as a stand-alone post with a few more details about this make. This is the #pewanderlust dress from @patternemporium_kate , sewn up in a double brushed poly from @lushfabricsaustralia I first noticed this pattern after @melis.creates recently posted her very ‘groovy’ version on her page, and so glad I followed suit as this dress is so darn comfy, yet stylish. This pattern comes with various options for length of skirt, sleeves and necklines - this is the crew neck, midi length skirt and long sleeves, sewn in a straight size 10. A very quick sew as most of it was able to be sewn straight on the overlocker (which always makes me nervous) but came together without a hitch. This is the #pewanderlustdress from #patternemporium The rainbow dots is cotton jersey from #spotlightstores and the brown/black floral is #lushfabricsaustralia Both garments are size 14 across shoulders and neckline but graded out to size 18 in the armscye, sleeve and below. The fabrics are both so soft and comfy that I was worried pockets would pull them out of shape so I didn’t add any. Ahhhh #memademay2023 - you make me dust off the old makes that have been lurking in the corner. This is a #pewanderlustdress sewn maybe 5 years ago, when I didn’t even have an overlocker 😱 Note the newbie knit features: gapey neckline and wobbly centre back seam. Despite all that, I get compliments on this dress when I wear it. Yet despite that, I don’t ever wear it! It’s so comfy and the design skims over the mummy tummy overhang (recently learned from #lovetosew that the technical name for this is panniculus, thanks @minimalistmachinist). I left both long edges of the frill unfinished on purpose. It’s such an easy peasy sew that I really should add a new one to my sewing queue so that I’ll wear it. Especially since I can now crack out my coverstitch to finish the neckline extra neatly. The last photo is my attempt at dealing with my hair whilst I grow it out. Any recommendations for great ways to make in between length hair look reasonable are much appreciated.

On Monday I tested positive for COVID and I immediately went to our cottage as my daughter is taking a plane on Saturday and I didn’t want her to miss her school trip. I packed some food, my computer and, of course, some sewing supplies! I have a trusty basic machine that does straight stitch and zigzag stitch and I have had no problem making some basic tshirt style garments. This is the Pattern Emporium Wanderlust Tshirt Dress I have made before without any issues. However, this time I used a heavier fabric and I spent a while trying to get the back to fit properly. I could see it was slightly too long at the waist in the back and I tried raising the shoulders but that didn’t help. I knew I basically needed a fish eye dart. It finally dawned on me to simply add a waist seam which solved the problem, I just wish I had thought of that sooner. Anyways, I love this easy breezy laid back style. I’ve always loved the look of a fitted dress but they can make me self conscious. Rib knit has been the perfect answer to that! What I love is that rib knit has texture and dimension that hides a bit more insecurities. (I buy all my rib knit from @milymaefabrics) - Also, picking the right patterns for your shape makes a huge difference.
