#MeMadeMay2023 Day 13: This pattern might be a winter top TNT. I’ve made 4 or 5 now. This striped top isn’t new, but not on the grid yet. So today is the day 😉 Today’s photographer is Miss 12. I was saying how I feel like these tops remind me of the flamenco 💃 with their flowing sleeves, and she wanted to know more about the dancers so up went my arms with my imaginary castanets and snap, she’d taken these photos. I tried the @patternemporium_kate True Romance top in a viscose jersey, some I have had in my stash for ages. It is a little clingy in parts but I forgive it because it is so soft. This is the version with the dramatic bishop sleeve, they are so good. It was a bit tricky gathering all that fabric to join it to a small cuff, but I am so pleased with the sleeves, it was worth it.

Day 2 of Me Made May has me in 2 handmade items! And they’re both hacked!! The hot pink sweater is a hacked-by-necessity #petrueromance top that I finally finished after a freaking year. 😳It was a work in progress I abandoned last year in MARCH when I couldn’t figure out what to do about the super wide sleeves not gathering into the cuffs properly. This fabric just wasn’t working that way. I lost it in the move then found it last week in a box marked plainly WIP. Duh!! So I simply did an elasticated sleeve hem, albeit several inches shorter than the original would’ve been. It’s a million degrees outside but I’m wearing it anyway because inside is temperature controlled. The shorts are also a hacked pair of @alinadesignco #chitownchinos that I added a waistband to. They’re way too big and were super wide in the legs too. So yesterday I trimmed an inch off each leg opening. They’re still too big but no longer feel like a full skirt. Technically these were both finished yesterday, so should I consider them new? I finished my striped #pelikeaboss batwing top and two others this week. The striped one has the cuffs and band from the #petrueromance but I decide to leave them off the others. I find it so much quicker to cut out a few things while I have all the pattern pieces ready and try to minimise thread colour changes to get them sewn up quickly. Happy hump day and first day of spring! It is a glorious morning here. I am sooo excited to see all the coming changes in my garden. If you are into gardening too I post all my favoite changes in my stories. I am slowly growing my beautiful dream garden in what was only maybe 2 years ago a very industrial, bare looking, suburban backyard. Last weekend I managed to make this amazingly comfy sweater top and I have already worn it out! I love it faults and all. I used the True Romance Bishop Sleeve Top pattern by @patternemporium_kate after seeing Kristins version on youtube @dahlia_sewciety I used the subtle drape sleeve and unbanded top for my version but my fabric was super slinky and hard to work with. I'm not sure if I stretched out the neck or if it was the wrong size but it came out really big. I considered cutting it appart and starting again but my sewing time is so limited with homeschooling so I took it in at the side seams. The neck is still too big. The hem also drowned me even after taking it in so I made a little pleat detail to one side, and I really like how that turned out. The fabric is a light rayon french terry which is why it's super slinky and drapey. I want to make this top again but I want to try a more stable knit fabric that won't stretch out. This style is so easy to wear. I was really impressed with @patternemporium_kate patterns. For some reason I was expecting the PDF pattern to be difficult to put together, but of course it wasn't. It was just your normal cut and tape PDF. I definitely recommend their patterns. This is my latest make, a comfy jersey top. It is the @patternemporium_kate True Romance top with the bishop sleeve. There is also a bigger sleeve option than this, that I think I will try next time, with a viscose jersey I have in my stash. This fabric is a cotton jersey from @guthrieghani it has a mint green background, much more green than in the photo, with little rust and orange flowers all over. I think they had it with a cream background too.

I haven't been participating I #memademay2020 much this year. To be honest, I've been finding this isolation stuff pretty hard on my mental health and it definitely sucked the sewjo out of me. Australia has done an amazing job so I'm back at school, I've seen my family and, most importantly, I've seen my GP and made a mental health plan, so I'm feeling a bit better. There is also a bigger sleeve option than this, that I think I will try next time, with a viscose jersey I have in my stash. This fabric is a cotton jersey from @guthrieghani it has a mint green background, much more green than in the photo, with little rust and orange flowers all over. I think they had it with a cream background too.
