I love this skirt pattern, this is my third make using it 🙂 This time I've made the split front version but I've added a false button placket to give a bit of detail. Works well with the Love Notions Juliet top that I recently finished. Oh and it has pockets 😀 Made with a Rayon I bought on a recent visit to Australia, not overly happy with this one as it really really wrinkles during wear. I'm definitely learning that not all rayon/viscoses are the same, the last one I used to make the Free Spirit is much better and doesn't wrinkle as much. But you live and learn! I’m very late to the party, but I’ve finally decided on my #MakeNine2021. It was so fun to plan out all the patterns I’ve been wanting to make and hard to select just nine, but here are my choices for the @makeninechallenge. I made this as part of my last minute camping road trip and knew instinctively it would fit my vibe of comfy, casual, practical, and stylish. And it’s a winner! It withstood 38 degrees C in full sun at a music concert and didn’t inhibit my ability to start a campfire. SCORE. As with many of my makes, at first I wasn’t so sure. My waist measurement put me into a size 14 and my hips at a size 10. I decided to split the difference and made a straight 12. When I first tried it on it felt big. I think I could have done a straight 10 as the waist size would have accommodated a larger elastic length without any modifications. In the end though it’s been perfect for traveling as it is comfortable for long stints sitting in the car or sweating in big heat. I love the pocket placement and while the pockets are on the small size, they are perfect for my hands and can carry my iPhone in a pinch. I feel like I may strut when I wear this as I love the swish of my skirt around my body. Now that I’ve been wearing it I would prefer to shorten it between the hips and waist as I seem to want to flip it over a turn at the waist (I’m quite short waisted). This is not cut on the bias, but it is cut in 6 panels (front, back, sides) and that helps give it the same kind of feel as a bias cut skirt. All those pieces do chop up a printed design and it wouldn't work well for a large print. Small prints and solids would work best. Suggested fabric is a rayon and I can see why.... might work in a linen but one with lots of drape and movement. I thought this would be quick and easy, but that's only the case if you skip the pockets and split front. I was going to make the #mnwattleskirt and thought that might take longer so did this instead. I think I will do that one next and compare the results. This was actually my first of the three Field of Dreams versions I sewed, a sweet little peplum that looks cute with both jeans and skirts. I never usually wear anything this high on my neck, but I think that this one might even be my favourite. It has pockets! #pefreespiritskirt that I’m not entirely sure I ever posted properly? Made last year the night before we went on a road trip. IKYK how it goes. I’m not sure I love the silhouette on me but it is comfy and swishy and it has pockets. I also love the front slit so I can show some leg. Worn with my TAL cuff top. I think I would like this outfit better if the cuff top was shorter. But then I wouldn’t like the top shorter in general. And I don’t like having too many garments that have a ‘special’ slot in my wardrobe. I prefer things to be multi-faceted and flexible. So I declare this ‘good enough’. In my efforts to ensure the waistband was comfortable I have made it too big and the skirt has tendency to fall down. I’m thinking on removing the waistband and swapping it for a tall black yoga waistband. I want the skirt to fall from my low waist but want the comfort and security of a high waist. Stay tuned! I made it using the pockets and split option as well as a simple enclosed elastic waist. I also hacked the pattern to have belt loops, I believe breaking up the print with this adorable lil white belt works a dream. I really felt like I could float away in this outfit, but don't worry, I have plans to incorporate into my winter wardrobe! I made a quick wearable toile for an idea brewing in my head. I say quick because it really was a very quick, easy sew. The pattern is a @patternemporium_kate #pefreespiritskirt I love the gypsy vibe it has, Would have preferred it maxi but I had to go with the amount of this fabric I had in my stash. It feels like a very lightweight Crepe as there is a little texture to it and crease resistant. The skirt has an elasticated waist and comprises of four panels which gives it a lovely volume and swishy shape. Its really cold outside 🥶 Thank goodness I had a cosy rtw jumper, albeit bobbly and well worn looking, that matched perfectly, and my trusty boots. Off to the hairdressers later for a quick trim wearing my quick to make new skirt. I'm entering this into #2fromstashamonth hosted by @salixsews and @septemberfaden this fabric was originally destined to be a pussy bow blouse but when I shopped my stash it seemed the perfect choice for this skirt. Also entering #MagamMellowMarch hosted by @suestoney @sewing_in_spain @eversewoften as I love the mellow shade of this fabric, it has a soft taupe hue which, in certain lights, takes on a soft mauve tinge, then there are the lovely mellow peachy/pink flowers which have an oriental Blossom 🌸 look about them. Final garment for 2022 - love it 😁! I wanted to make a special something for my son's girlfriend. Last year I made PJs, this year I was a little braver. When delving through my stash this pretty floral rayon fabric jumped out and said 'pick me'. It's now a light, floaty Free Spirit Skirt (by Pattern Emporium) that fits perfectly and she loves it ❤ I've inserted a label from the Kylie and the Machine advent countdown collection. This one has a little hug and kiss on the back, so would be nice exposed on an outside seam. I am going to try to remember to insert labels this year ... yes I am. Help 🤣!!! I'm loving this pattern - my second Free Spirit Skirt in a cool viscose. This one I've done with 40mm elastic for the waistband and it's really comfy. I love the way the pockets are set into the sides of the front panel rather than into side seams.
