@jeannettebedard there was no way I was gonna throw out the scraps I had left after making my Seamwork Lisa cardigan in your lovely swap fabric! I thought I might get a hat out of what was left, but, with a bunch of #PatternTetris (and, surprisingly, no #SecretSeams !) I was able to make this l’il #SweaterVest as another winter layer - since winter came back today 😆 I’ve had the #PEBestiesTee printed out for a while, but, finally put it to good use today: Size 16 as per measurements Sleeveless V-neck Banded waist I DID double the width of both the neck and armhole bands for a little more oomph. I also tapered the wider bands in at the fold for shaping. 1/2” for the neckband and 3/8” for the armbands. In the photo, the neckband looks likes it’s gaping a bit, but standing normally, not trying to take a timer photo, it sits nicely 😁 😜 I’m feeling particularly proud of myself for thinking to adapt a pattern I already have, not just buy a new one 😉 The wider bands fold up a bit under the arms and this fabric is light enough that the waist band colllapses a bit, but, for being able to wing it and use every last little bit of this fabulous colour sweater knit from the swap table at the last #YYJSewistsMeetup I am absolutely thrilled! Love me a good basic tee pattern and Besties Tee certainly ticks a lot of boxes for me. So many options and so versatile for all seasons. I've not tried making one with a hem band at hip length. One of my last two makes for 2023. They have both been in progress all holiday and I finally finished them this afternoon. This is the Besties Tee by @patternemporium_kate, which I first saw on @weedstowildflowers. I love the banded hem as an alternative to tucking in, and it’s just a wee bit more than a basic tee. I made the size 18 hipster length banded version (other version has a flared hem) with the high round neck option and long sleeve. The fabric came from @flamingofabrics in October 2021, so pretty deep stash. It’s really soft and drapey. TGIF friends, TGIF! Today I needed to wear something comfortable and happy that was still put together enough on top for half a day of video calls. Please excuse the crazy hair - it looked a lot better the first half of the day than the second because of the crazy humidity with the storms here. The Bestie comes with so many options and this version is the crop top with band in a rib knit from @fabricmart that’s so soft. I spent the day updating my makers documentation in order to be able to reflect on my year of makes. It literally took all day, but it was a nice way to spend hours and hours and gave me plenty of time to reflect on my sewing/knitting journey over the past few years. I made a total of 77 items (three of those were knitting makes). I didn’t tally up last year and the year before so I have no idea if this is more or less than usual. What is interesting? Taking a look at the number of projects where I was left feeling unsatisfied - it amounts to 23% of what I made. The issues are evenly divided between poor fabric choices, poor fit, and simply not liking the item once done. Only once or twice was the problem my construction. With sewing time so precious it is disheartening that a quarter of the time I don’t end up happy with the result. I’ve also learned 29% of my projects were made for others; nearly 1/3 of my makes this year was selfless sewing! I had no idea. I always think of those projects as something I do now and then. Feeling generous with my makes helps offset what I consider to be a high number of fails. At the end of the day only half of what I made in 2023 was something I made for myself that I ended up liking. That is definitely food for thought heading into 2024. Unfortunately I didn’t do all this analysis before I spent the past two days cutting out 9 new projects.... Two of which could be considered experimental with a high likelihood of ending up in the unsatisfactory pile. Oopsie. Lol. #CovynTheCoverstitch came through in the clutch for me tonight: - 4 t-shirt hems - 3 sets of t-shirt sleeve hems - And a bonus underwear waistband repair All in less than one hour with three thread colour changes! Yay! @damselfly.ca I can’t tell you how grateful I am to be using this machine ☺️ My goal was to get three tops finished for my sister and I did! 2 of her favourite #LPLenne tops with an extra 1/2” added to body length this time. Also, 1 #LPLeia which is a new one for my sister. On this pattern she measures 1/2 way between sz 10 & 12 so I redrew aaaallll those pleat notches half way between the 2 sizes and did a 2.75” FBA, as well as adding 1/2” length. The Leia is in a lovely red bamboo/cotton, the Lennes are a deep purple-ish wine rayon knit and a burgundy merino - all from #OurSocialFabric The closest colour rendering on my screen is the photo of 2 coverstitched hems. There was one tiny casualty of rushed sewing - a tiny hole in the merino (of course) on the back of one shoulder. Sigh. I’ve repaired it best I can, but, at least it won’t be visible to her while wearing 😉 The striped tee for me is a(nother) #PEBestiesTee in a fabulous cotton/lycra from @lkathmack (twinning with one of those fantastic travel outfits of @sewmuchtodesign 😉) Thank you, Linda! I used a large-ish scrap left over from making a dress. It was really a very odd-shape so I could only cut out the sleeveless, cropped tee. I do wish it was just a tad longer but given the constraints, I’m still quite pleased with how this turned out. It will get a lot of wear. The shorts were also cut out of remnants, left over from making pajama pants last year. First time making the Besties tee and it won’t be the last! I would have never been game to make a cropped length top but after seeing the tester photos I have it a go and I’m so pleased I did. I got some time in the sewing room early this morning and forced myself to sew up some basics - so here’s my first @patternemporium_kate @patternemporium_kate Bestie tee! I have so few good quality solid basic things to wear that I really need to focus on this and needs to be my wardrobe for summer. I’m just too dazzled by all the amazing printed fabric! I used an incredibly soft modal fabric from the stash, and I love the fit. This is the top length I think it runs a little short, which I liked since I left them raw, but if I were to hem it I’d probably add an inch. New #oxbowpants from @sewhouse7 ! I love this pattern! This time I used View B. My other shorter ones are just a tiny bit tight so I made these looser but now I think they might be a bit too big. We will see after a day of wear. 👖I used about 2.5 yards of denim I got in Atlanta at Fine Fabrics on a trip with @johassler . The fabric was less than $10 per yard and 60” wide! 🧵The top I made a long time ago but I’m not sure I posted it. It’s an @patternemporium_kate #pebestiestee made from @artgalleryfabrics the I got for FREE @bmorefabricswap last year. So the whole outfit cost me less than $25 to make. I’m still going strong on #whole30fabricchallenge - total of 12.5 yards sewing without buying any new- 17.5 to go!

I’ve been under the weather since Thursday night - not COVID, not strep, but some awful virus that felt like broken glass my throat and sucked all the energy from my body. Today was the first day I felt like I could do more than sleep on the couch but I still needed pajama like comfort to sooth my soul. I think this may have been my most worn combo this summer - I love both of these patterns to death! And my other scraps, too - a very, very pleasing #CalmAutumn palette that reinforces how well my most recent makes all play well together 😉 IG doesn’t give me enough room to explain this pattern mash up TL:DR is that I superimposed the pointy bits onto the #PEBestiesTee and I’m thrilled with that pattern! Have you ever eased in a little elbow room on the back of a knit sleeve?! Neither had I and it’s PERFECT. This is the sz 18 (as per measurements), mid neckline, long sleeve, Hem 6 (Top, Tall), and I can’t wait to make another one! I did add 1/2” to sleeve length for #SewingTall 😉 I’m so glad I decided to mess with recreating this style on the #PEBestiesTee 👏 The pointy bits came off a pattern I regret paying for, because when I printed it out I realized that not only were the front and back the SAME piece, cut on the fold; the sleeve was symmetrical front and back, also cut on the fold. Whaaaa?!?? I got some time in the sewing room early this morning and forced myself to sew up some basics - so here’s my first @patternemporium_kate @patternemporium_kate Bestie tee! I have so few good quality solid basic things to wear that I really need to focus on this and needs to be my wardrobe for summer. I’m just too dazzled by all the amazing printed fabric! I used an incredibly soft modal fabric from the stash, and I love the fit. This is the top length I think it runs a little short, which I liked since I left them raw, but if I were to hem it I’d probably add an inch. Me Made May Day 2! One new piece, one made last year, and a favorite thrifted find. I made my second @patternemporium_kate Bestie tee last week and I’m wearing it with my first made pair of @closetcorepatterns Pietra pants. Both pieces fit my MMM pledge (see grid for details). Although the top was a simple sew, I added a little complexity by choosing the banded version which required gathering - eeek! Not my strongest skill. I did the high square banded neck which was different and had good pattern markings to help. And then the pants have clever but involved pockets. Fun fact - from cutting out to completion this first pair took me a year because I had thrown them in the UFO pile when I got stuck. My pledge is to do that less. Fabric for the top is DBP from my stash, can’t recall the origin, and pants are a linen rayon blend.
