The tencel twill love affair continues with this unbelievable ditsy floral print from @blackbirdfabrics. I can’t resist a good matching set. I was gifted this amazing Minerva exclusive cotton sateen. I stuck to two of my tried and true patterns, the Fibre Mood Aila shirt and Papercut Tula shorts. It’s so nice and relaxing to sew patterns you’ve made before. I should really do it more often. Aila is a size XS and the Tula is a modified size 2. After completing my set I had enough fabric left to test out the Pattern Emporium Field of Dreams crop top. This is the size 6 with high neck and narrow straps. It’s a fully lined top and I used self fabric for the lining. I can’t decide which outfit I like best. We both are wearing #memades today. Mine is a recent make. It is the #fieldofdreamsdress by @patternemporium_kate I made a few adjustments. I did an FBA of 1/2 inch. Changed the length of the tiers to suit my height. Took an inch off on the side seams of the bodice at the waist because I like it more fitted. Fabric : Crinkle cotton linen from @fabricmart purchased a year ago. The little ones wearing a dress I had stitched at the beginning of spring. Details are on my grid.

Knitting has taken a little bit of a backseat lately. I got a new hobby of sewing because I really wanted to make a dress for our Puerto Rico trip and ended up making 2 and a dress for my daughter. The first dress I made for me o consider practicing as it had a couple of fit issues. This one turned out much better just from tweaking the pattern a bit to fit my needs. Me Made May 2024 Day 12 and this is my latest dress, just made at the end of last week. It’s another #fieldofdreamsdress by @patternemporium_kate as I like the shape and fit of the bodice and it’s so easy to wear. The only modifications I made was to shorten the straps and I made the 2 tiered skirt option, but lengthened the depth of the tiers to give me a long length dress. The fabric is a very floaty, fine weight blue and white paisley viscose from @trurofabrics and beautiful to work with. I wore this dress on recent long haul flights and it was perfect. Loose so I wasn't feeling squeezed anywhere, high front neckline so I didn't have to worry about decency 🤭, long to cover my ugly but necessary flight stockings and plenty of wriggle room so that I remained covered no matter how much I fidgeted! I can wear a tshirt under it for warmth if needed but just wore a cardy on the top for the chilly flights. Perfect 😀 The pattern also has a brilliant projector file. It feels kind of weird not posting/wearing handmade garments after 31 days of #memademay2023. So what the heck, I'll keep going for a little bit. 💕 This is a dress I've had in my head since seeing a similar one from a capsule wardrobe video a while ago. A white linen sundress with minimal frills to last me for years beyond current trends. This is the @patternemporium_kate #fieldofdreamsdress with a hacked skirt. I just used the pattern piece for the first tier and lengthened it to 22 inches. It ended up being a smidge narrower because I wanted to just use the width of the fabric I had. Word to the wise, baste your dress on to try the straps before securing. The way this dress is constructed, it's hard to get to those straps if they're too long (which was the case for me, I almost left them 😂🙈) and you can't really tell sizing without the weight of the skirt pulling down on the bodice. For me, this is the perfect summer dress for the heatwave we've been having lately. It is the #fieldofdreamsdress by @patternemporium_kate. I've had my eye on this pattern all summer and I was delighted to finally have a reason to make and wear it. Making the bodice of the pattern wasn't as easy as I was expecting, there was too much ease (and armpit exposure) in my size and I adjusted the pattern quite a bit to get a more fitted look. I'm delighted with it now, I love the fabric from @beyond.thepinkdoor and now that I've figured out the bodice I would definitely love to make it again. Me Made May Day 15 and todays make is the Smitten Jacket pattern by @patternemporium_kate that I made last summer. I made the cropped version with the gathered cuffs and gathered back lower band. So many options for a fully lined bodice shape and skirt   🌸This version is a rayon blue and white print in a maxi length using one tier lengthened with a small tier in the bottom. I shortened the bodice by 5cm and I sized down to a size 12 for a more fitted bodice. Thinking of my sewing plans for 2024: it’s going to be a year dedicated to self-care, reflection, and healing. Life threw its challenges at me in 2023, battling health issues, loss, and distance. So this year, I'm giving myself the gift of time – time to heal, perhaps embark on some home renovations, and of course keep the connection with my craft, albeit a little quieter this year. Sewing is my sanctuary, and it’s certainly provided a welcome escape for me this past year.   I have therefore crafted my #MakeNine2024 challenge to sew some items that have been in the pipeline for quite some time.  If I don’t get them done, I’m not going to stress. ThePDF pattern is another one from @patternemporium_kate and has loads of options for both a dress and a top. I made the mid length version here with a sweetheart neckline and a three tiered skirt. Dreaming of sunshine and warmer days ☀️🌺 I received this gorgeous Viscose Challis fabric from @MinervaDotCom and knew right away that I wanted to make a floaty summer dress with it. MMM Day 9: I love everything about this dress, except for the fabric content. It's one of the first pieces I made when I started sewing again. So while I was looking for inexpensive fabric to practice with, this one caught my attention. I didn't realize how much I dislike wearing polyester when I bought it, but I never reach for this one. Here are a couple of photos of my #fieldofdreamstop , made using the “Field of Dreams” dress and top sewing pattern from @patternemporium_kate (My previous post shows the dress version). The blue floral viscose fabric was from @trurofabrics and was left over scraps, from making a previous shirt dress last year. I made the top with the short peplum frill, simply because I was using every scrap of fabric that I had. I do really like the bodice top pattern on “Field of Dreams” pattern and am even considering taking the skirt off my original shirt dress in this fabric and turning this into a full sundress!💙 So we’ll wait and see, but I do like all the options on this pattern, there seems to be a version for everyone. 🥰 #wendypoolesews

This top was made using the same pattern that I shared in my previous post. This time as a top. I repurposed a dress that I wasn’t wearing which I had stitched a while ago. I really loved this linen fabric and felt bad that It wasn’t getting a lot of use. I used up every little piece so the gathers in the ruffle are not much compared to the pattern requirements but I am happy with it and I am sure I will wear it more often now.

With so much pink around at the moment for the Barbie Movie, I couldn’t resist making a pink jacket - and here it is! The pattern is the #smittenjacket by @patternemporium_kate and this is the second version of this pattern that I’ve made. This time I made the regular cropped version with straight sleeves and buttoned cuffs. The style is very similar to a Jean Jacket, but I omitted the pocket flaps and focused on lots of top stitching. The fabric is a lovely medium weight linen fabric, that was really nice to work with and came from @trurofabrics recently. The blue floral top worn underneath is the #fieldofdreamstop by @patternemporium_kate and the floral viscose fabric was again from @trurofabrics Oh yes!! I also got photobombed by the cat and the dog - and at the time, didn’t even realise!😉

My latest make is the #smittenjacket by @patternemporium_kate. There’s loads of options to this jacket, but I chose the regular length (ultra) cropped version, with bishop sleeves, no pocket flaps and a gathered waistband. I sometimes need to make a full bust adjustment and this pattern already had optional pattern prices to accommodate this, but I stuck with the regular bust sizing and it was fine. Lots of lovely detailing with seams on this jacket and a really great fit, which came up to size without any adjustments for me. I chose a white lightweight cotton drill fabric with a slight stretch from @trurofabrics and the mother of pearl buttons also came from there as well. The Smitten Jacket is also worn with my #fieldofdreamstop by @patternemporium_kate (from my previous post) and the blue floral viscose fabric was also purchased from @trurofabrics I’m going to make this again and and try out a linen version with the straight sleeves and fitted wristband on the next one. #wendypoolesews

So many options for a fully lined bodice shape and skirt   🌸This version is a rayon blue and white print in a maxi length using one tier lengthened with a small tier in the bottom. I shortened the bodice by 5cm and I sized down to a size 12 for a more fitted bodice. This is my final sew of 2023! I took a pattern that I love and attempted some modifications, of which some worked and some failed spectacularly. I can honestly say I’ve never used my unpicked more in a single garment. TIP | Invest in skin tone underwear when wearing white. Bodice is fully lined of course (as per pattern). I think this might be my 2nd ever white dress. First one was my formal (prom) dress in my final year of school. 😂 PATTERN | Field Of Dreams Dress & Top OPTIONS SEWN | Button-up front with straight neckline (I fake this one - no buttonholes). I will let on that my husband is the type who usually doesn’t even notice that I have had a haircut even when I lopped off couple of inches off! . So when he actually said that this dress is gorgeous, it was a raise eye moment for me! 🧐And that I should wear such makes more often! . Such is the allure of this pattern! . When I tested for the pattern, I started with a size 10 for my muslin as per my measurement. It was a little on the loose end of things and because I generally prefer my tops to be more fitted, I dropped a size and there was enough ease for it to fit perfectly! It is likely also because I am on the lower end of size 10. Once the fit was sorted, sewing multiples of the same pattern is very quick, especially when the gathering is using Mobilon tape, a method I learn from @patternemporium_kate Some deets - - Size 8 - Straight front and classic back - Wide fixed straps, back ties and pockets - Knee length (2 tiers at tall length) - Fabric is rayon from @brightonaccessorieshouse . FIELD OF DREAMS TOP Petit passage en coup de vent pendant ma désintox d'Instagram qui se passe plutôt très bien ! J'ai pu me remettre à lire, quel bonheur ! J'en suis d'ailleurs à mon 4ème livre du mois, (oui, j'ai tendance à être un peu intense comme femme 😅). Dire qu'à torce de scroller sur Insta, je n'arrivais plus à me concentrer au-delà d'un post. Autre avantage de ne plus fréquenter Instagram : je fais des économies ! The tencel twill love affair continues with this unbelievable ditsy floral print from @blackbirdfabrics. Last time I shared a project where many things went wrong but I still enjoyed the result. Today I'm sharing a complete failure I absolutely love! This skirt was meant to be a #pefieldofdreamsdress. I decided that such a simple dress didn't require a muslin, and I was wrong! The bodice needed a few adjustments, but I didn't have enough fabric left to recut it, so I cut up the bodice and harvested every last cm to make an elasticated waistband. I intend to make this dress again next summer. Last summer I enjoyed wearing this skirt! Fabric is rayon from @spotlightstores purchased a few years ago. Belt is from an op shop. ~**Flowers**~ 💐🌺🌹🌷 This dress was made with fabric that was intended for a shirt but I grossly miscalculated the size of the print and it wasn’t going to work. This dress taught me about grading bodices when moving straps. I had to move the bust darts more centrally by 4.5cm but then then meant also moving the straps in. Not a problem right? Well apparently when I altered the top of the bodice, I graded too much at the sides and now you can very visibly see my bra 🤣🤣🤣🤣 lucky I intend to wear this with a shirt under it!!!! I made the Pattern Emporium Field of Dreams dress for my 11 year old and she loves it. I love the fit on her. She’s a size 14 with no alterations and a bit of room to grow. I put a bit of elastic in the back neckline to snug it up a bit at the back as suggested in the pattern. Fabric design is by Tara Reed and fabric produced by Lord Voldemort. It frayed quite a lot as I fussed around with the gathering. For next time, I think I’ll interface the straps and sew them folded instead of as tubes. Me Made May Day 15 and todays make is the Smitten Jacket pattern by @patternemporium_kate that I made last summer. I made the cropped version with the gathered cuffs and gathered back lower band. Me Made May 2024 Day 12 and this is my latest dress, just made at the end of last week. It’s another #fieldofdreamsdress by @patternemporium_kate as I like the shape and fit of the bodice and it’s so easy to wear. The only modifications I made was to shorten the straps and I made the 2 tiered skirt option, but lengthened the depth of the tiers to give me a long length dress. The fabric is a very floaty, fine weight blue and white paisley viscose from @trurofabrics and beautiful to work with. The tencel twill love affair continues with this unbelievable ditsy floral print from @blackbirdfabrics. Dreaming of sunshine and warmer days ☀️🌺 I received this gorgeous Viscose Challis fabric from @MinervaDotCom and knew right away that I wanted to make a floaty summer dress with it. FIELD OF DREAMS TOP Petit passage en coup de vent pendant ma désintox d'Instagram qui se passe plutôt très bien ! J'ai pu me remettre à lire, quel bonheur ! J'en suis d'ailleurs à mon 4ème livre du mois, (oui, j'ai tendance à être un peu intense comme femme 😅). Dire qu'à torce de scroller sur Insta, je n'arrivais plus à me concentrer au-delà d'un post. Autre avantage de ne plus fréquenter Instagram : je fais des économies ! I will let on that my husband is the type who usually doesn’t even notice that I have had a haircut even when I lopped off couple of inches off! . So when he actually said that this dress is gorgeous, it was a raise eye moment for me! 🧐And that I should wear such makes more often! . Such is the allure of this pattern! . When I tested for the pattern, I started with a size 10 for my muslin as per my measurement. It was a little on the loose end of things and because I generally prefer my tops to be more fitted, I dropped a size and there was enough ease for it to fit perfectly! It is likely also because I am on the lower end of size 10. Once the fit was sorted, sewing multiples of the same pattern is very quick, especially when the gathering is using Mobilon tape, a method I learn from @patternemporium_kate Some deets - - Size 8 - Straight front and classic back - Wide fixed straps, back ties and pockets - Knee length (2 tiers at tall length) - Fabric is rayon from @brightonaccessorieshouse . I wore this dress on recent long haul flights and it was perfect. Loose so I wasn't feeling squeezed anywhere, high front neckline so I didn't have to worry about decency 🤭, long to cover my ugly but necessary flight stockings and plenty of wriggle room so that I remained covered no matter how much I fidgeted! I can wear a tshirt under it for warmth if needed but just wore a cardy on the top for the chilly flights. Perfect 😀 The pattern also has a brilliant projector file. First dress of the year, made for me - and I used a @patternemporium_kate pdf dress pattern for the first time to make it. The dress pattern is called “Field of Dreams” and is amazing, as there’s so many different variations of dress and top that can be made from it, that I’ve already whipped a top version of it up now, as well! I just need to take some photos of it. I purchased the floral crepe fabric from @rainbowfabrickilburn back in March at @thestitchfestival - which was also lovely to work with. It’s a dead stock fabric and if I’m correct, I think it was originally used for dresses by Phase Eight. #wendypoolederessmaking
