SPORTY LOUNGE SKIRT Super smug 😏 as I managed to cut a size 12 regular skirt WITH POCKETS mind you out of some scraps from @madebyalley This took up approximately a fat half of ponte with the waistband pieced together. The pattern has 3 skirt lengths, 2 pocket options and 2 waistband option. I went with a welt pocket and simple waistband. The ties are non functional and just sewn on for aesthetic reason. I decided to try the #sportyloungeskirt by @patternemporium_kate earlier this month. The black grey one in bottom left was the tester. Then I went a little crazy and made 3 more and cut out another 3 to stitch up. What can I say its a great pattern and the athletic knit was $6/m. Can't beat that price. Now since making them I've lost 10lbs so I need to go back and make little alterations for a tighter waistband. The wait is over, the Sporty Lounge Skirt from @patternemporium_kate is out today! It looks so great in a multitude of fabrics and pairs beautifully with all types of tops. Okay, I stuck to the original pattern this time. 😂 I also adore this length, it's just right for my legs and this is super easy to pull on and go, but way cuter than sweatpants. The other day I was getting some retail therapy... At Winners And I came home with a few things One was a skort from the discount rack.➡️➡️➡️➡️ I'm sure I got my $1a wear out of it the first two weeks since I think I paid about $11 for it. I also downloaded the #lovenotionstinley about the same time. I was just about to cut a skort out when I thought I'd copy the Winners skort. I made a pattern piece of the flounce on the bottom and then cut the bottom off a pattern emporium #sportyloungeskirt ... That I just didn't wear. Ugh it seemed to be wearing me. But I loved the fabric and the faux leather detail on the pockets etc. I tried to like it, even changed the waistband to a saved yoga waistband from a long thrown out pair of yoga pants. I usually save bits and pieces before they go down the garbage chute. I keep a bag of misc stuff in a big freezer bag. Sometimes parts from RTW discarded pieces to thrift store pieces that I've taken apart for the accessories sewn on. I add parts I've sewn onto memades that I've changed my mind on. It's a bag of many things. That has several yoga waistband in it as it happens. I cut off the skirt at just below the pocket bag, added the flounce and the bike shorts from the Tinley and voila I have something that I'll wear. .... Someday I added the little detail at the waist to hang some charms on. I don't know why, really. It just seemed like a good idea at the time. And now the skort can accessorize as well. Bahaha Then I added the #riotanktop ... This is No3. I should have shortened it, but I doubt I'll ever wear them together. This particular one will go with lots of stuff in my closet. I made this hat 2 years ago for golf and thought I would enter it into #sewover50 #sewahat23 challenge I took one of my favourite caps and made a pattern using it as a guide. Turns out it's great for walking along the river at Dovedale in the Peak District which is where we were today. I embroidered the word Really as it kind of sums up a lot of my golf shots. A bad one is usually followed by a disgruntled REALLY!!! 🤦‍♀️ Whereas an unexpected miracle shot is followed by a high pitched gleeful REALLY!!!,🥳🏌‍♀️ I love these little personal touches that we can add when making things for ourselves. With it being for golf I added a magnetic clasp to hold my ball marker and I also did some air holes using my machines fancy eyelet stitch. The rest of my outfit was made for golf too but turns out it is also good for a hike around beautiful places on a beautiful summers day. After making my first @patternemporium_kate #sportyloungeskirt, I promptly headed to Spotlight for more fabric to make another one. Most of the knits that I have in my stash are quite light, more a t-shirt weight and I wanted to try the pattern in something a little heftier. So when I found this scuba with a marbled print on the remnant table, I snapped it up! As with my first iteration, this is the regular length, shortened by 1/2”. I went with welt pockets again, although I’m sure I’ll try the bound pockets at some point. I used a drawstring harvested from a RTW pair of shorts, and just added a couple of metal aglets to the ends. I have made a Faux Leather Skirt and I really quite like it. This is my latest Minerva make and I have written more about it on my feed on their website ( link in bio). @minervadotcom kindly sent me this fabric as part of their #minervabrandambassador team 🤗😙 It is one if their Core Range Fabrics, a lovely Supple Stretch Faux Leather which is a knit but feels and looks like a leather. This is the Pebble colourway and is now my favourite neutral colour....I'm calling it a grunge ivory, so yummy. The pattern is a @patternemporium_kate #sportyloungeskirt my 3rd one now because I can't get enough of them and they look so different. This one is the longest length with the seam down the middle, plain waistband and welt pockets. I did a tiny hack and added a small split on the front seam at the hem, I also shortened the back curve so it was a smaller high/low hem. I'm wearing it with various tops to show how different it can look styled different ways, I'm thinking boots and plush jumper in the winter. Also added a couple of close ups. I like that it is loose fitting so I can tuck a jumper in and it adds to the comfort factor. Took my new golf outfit out for a game today and it felt soooo!! cool and comfy. I was soon upstaged though by a glorious silver Birch tree trunk, my favourite tree. I like how the top and skirt worn together look like a dress. I'm really pleased I decided to line the skirt with a thin cotton Jersey, it made a huge difference to how it hangs and feels as my main fabric is quite lightweight. I have had a good #waiwot session on my skirt today @consistentlydifferentdesigns It's all finished but I haven't got the right coloured cord to finish it off. Here are some details whilst I wait to find some which won't happen until Fri when I can get up to @thesewingcafeuk 🤞they have the perfect or close as pos pink colour to go with the dusky pink bias tape on the top. I quite like how this @patternemporium_kate #pesportyloungeskirt has you make the waistband and thread the elastic before attaching it to the skirt, I can't help thinking of possibilities to make some fun elastic belts. My eyelets on the tab are abit large and you could see the interfacing so I underlined it with a piece of the peachy Jersey used for the collar on the matching top. I have shortened the shortest version abit more and more again on the back piece on this one so the high/low hem wasn't so pronounced. Love the contrast pocket binding and shape of the pockets. My fabric seemed too thin for a skirt so I made a simple lining in the thin peachy fabric with an overlocked hem, two thins have made a right 😁 I couldn't decide on the top and skirt which colour thread to use for topstitching, so used both. Here’s my third @patternemporium_kate #carefreecuffedtee, probably not my last! I intended to make this with the twisted cuff but the fabric must have shrunk in the prewash because I didn’t have enough to cut the pattern piece for the twisted cuff! 😕 like my previous one, this is one size down from my measurements, with the crew neck, and I left the cuff piece down. This gold foil jersey is from @bigandbravefabrics. I’m wearing it with my #sportyloungeskirt and it looks like it could work as a faux dress, if I used the same fabric for the top and the skirt, right? What do we think? Two-piece-setacular? My OOTD for #MeMadeMay25 is my @patternemporium_kate Sporty Lounge Skirt in a stretch faux leather paired with a @til_the_sun_goes_down @nowandthensewingpatterns Amelie Tuck Blouse I think they look lovely together. I wasn't wearing this skirt so this week decided to make it right. Firstly it kept slipping down when I walked, not good when out and about, one time I hadn't noticed and felt a draft around my midriff 🤣 it didn't look good. So I unpicked the stitching I had done around the middle of the waistband to stop the elastic twisting then removed it. The elastic was too soft and didn't have much resilience, swapped it out for a more robust, stretchy one and also shortened it. I also shortened the front 1 inch and the back more as it was lower than the front - on purpose, but I wasn't keen, they are now more even. I did wonder whether to square the hem off and make it even shorter, but I like the split detail on a faux leather and think it has an elegant look this length. Pleased to say the skirt is staying put now so I dare walk down to the shops in it again. I was aiming for a midi-length, mainly so that I could use as much of the cut of fabric that I had. This is a grey ponte from @withtheweave. A few months ago, I won this dark wash denim-look cotton jersey in a @bigandbravefabrics giveaway and I’ve been a little stumped about what to make with it ever since. Because of the dark wash, I wanted to use it for a bottom. I only had one yard so at first I thought I’d make a pair of knit shorts for one of my girls; I reeeaaally wanted to use it for me though… then this pattern was released and it was meant to be! I used the plain waistband, inserted welt pockets and sewed on a faux drawstring. I installed those metal aglets and I’m happy with how it turned out. This is the regular length, shortened by 1/2”. The pockets and hem are topstitched in grey. Took my new golf outfit out for a game today and it felt soooo!! cool and comfy. I was soon upstaged though by a glorious silver Birch tree trunk, my favourite tree. I like how the top and skirt worn together look like a dress. I'm really pleased I decided to line the skirt with a thin cotton Jersey, it made a huge difference to how it hangs and feels as my main fabric is quite lightweight. I have had a good #waiwot session on my skirt today @consistentlydifferentdesigns It's all finished but I haven't got the right coloured cord to finish it off. Here are some details whilst I wait to find some which won't happen until Fri when I can get up to @thesewingcafeuk 🤞they have the perfect or close as pos pink colour to go with the dusky pink bias tape on the top. I quite like how this @patternemporium_kate #pesportyloungeskirt has you make the waistband and thread the elastic before attaching it to the skirt, I can't help thinking of possibilities to make some fun elastic belts. My eyelets on the tab are abit large and you could see the interfacing so I underlined it with a piece of the peachy Jersey used for the collar on the matching top. I have shortened the shortest version abit more and more again on the back piece on this one so the high/low hem wasn't so pronounced. Love the contrast pocket binding and shape of the pockets. My fabric seemed too thin for a skirt so I made a simple lining in the thin peachy fabric with an overlocked hem, two thins have made a right 😁 I couldn't decide on the top and skirt which colour thread to use for topstitching, so used both. My OOTD for #MeMadeMay25 is my @patternemporium_kate Sporty Lounge Skirt in a stretch faux leather paired with a @til_the_sun_goes_down @nowandthensewingpatterns Amelie Tuck Blouse I think they look lovely together. I wasn't wearing this skirt so this week decided to make it right. Firstly it kept slipping down when I walked, not good when out and about, one time I hadn't noticed and felt a draft around my midriff 🤣 it didn't look good. So I unpicked the stitching I had done around the middle of the waistband to stop the elastic twisting then removed it. The elastic was too soft and didn't have much resilience, swapped it out for a more robust, stretchy one and also shortened it. I also shortened the front 1 inch and the back more as it was lower than the front - on purpose, but I wasn't keen, they are now more even. I did wonder whether to square the hem off and make it even shorter, but I like the split detail on a faux leather and think it has an elegant look this length. Pleased to say the skirt is staying put now so I dare walk down to the shops in it again. I made this hat 2 years ago for golf and thought I would enter it into #sewover50 #sewahat23 challenge I took one of my favourite caps and made a pattern using it as a guide. Turns out it's great for walking along the river at Dovedale in the Peak District which is where we were today. I embroidered the word Really as it kind of sums up a lot of my golf shots. A bad one is usually followed by a disgruntled REALLY!!! 🤦‍♀️ Whereas an unexpected miracle shot is followed by a high pitched gleeful REALLY!!!,🥳🏌‍♀️ I love these little personal touches that we can add when making things for ourselves. With it being for golf I added a magnetic clasp to hold my ball marker and I also did some air holes using my machines fancy eyelet stitch. The rest of my outfit was made for golf too but turns out it is also good for a hike around beautiful places on a beautiful summers day. After making my first @patternemporium_kate #sportyloungeskirt, I promptly headed to Spotlight for more fabric to make another one. Most of the knits that I have in my stash are quite light, more a t-shirt weight and I wanted to try the pattern in something a little heftier. So when I found this scuba with a marbled print on the remnant table, I snapped it up! As with my first iteration, this is the regular length, shortened by 1/2”. I went with welt pockets again, although I’m sure I’ll try the bound pockets at some point. I used a drawstring harvested from a RTW pair of shorts, and just added a couple of metal aglets to the ends. I have made a Faux Leather Skirt and I really quite like it. This is my latest Minerva make and I have written more about it on my feed on their website ( link in bio). @minervadotcom kindly sent me this fabric as part of their #minervabrandambassador team 🤗😙 It is one if their Core Range Fabrics, a lovely Supple Stretch Faux Leather which is a knit but feels and looks like a leather. This is the Pebble colourway and is now my favourite neutral colour....I'm calling it a grunge ivory, so yummy. The pattern is a @patternemporium_kate #sportyloungeskirt my 3rd one now because I can't get enough of them and they look so different. This one is the longest length with the seam down the middle, plain waistband and welt pockets. I did a tiny hack and added a small split on the front seam at the hem, I also shortened the back curve so it was a smaller high/low hem. I'm wearing it with various tops to show how different it can look styled different ways, I'm thinking boots and plush jumper in the winter. Also added a couple of close ups. I like that it is loose fitting so I can tuck a jumper in and it adds to the comfort factor. Two years of on-off Covid lockdowns and semi-lockdown states in the country have put me into a state of recluse. As the country slowly opens up again, I want to slowly build up my wardrobe again. So I shared about the Sporty Lounge Skirt in the post before this. The other concurrent pattern release is the tee I am wearing here - the Carefree Cuffed Tee. What’s there not to love about a boxy tee that spells COMFORT! . I made mine using viscose jersey which lends its a nice drape. However, the twisted cuff wouldn’t hold well because of the drape, so I attached the regular cuff instead and it’s perfect. . Sewing note: the pattern was intended to be relaxed in fit. I made a size 8 although I measure 10 because I was at the lower end of size 10. It fits perfectly, thankfully! . Also a new sew is the skirt. Same exact specs as the one I made in the post before this, except that I made the bounded pockets (swipe to see photo). . Happy I have more wardrobe staples! Woot! . On a side note, I just realized that I almost always have my hands in the pockets. I really don’t know what to do with my hands when I take photos 😆😆 . Here’s my third @patternemporium_kate #carefreecuffedtee, probably not my last! I intended to make this with the twisted cuff but the fabric must have shrunk in the prewash because I didn’t have enough to cut the pattern piece for the twisted cuff! 😕 like my previous one, this is one size down from my measurements, with the crew neck, and I left the cuff piece down. This gold foil jersey is from @bigandbravefabrics. I’m wearing it with my #sportyloungeskirt and it looks like it could work as a faux dress, if I used the same fabric for the top and the skirt, right? What do we think? Two-piece-setacular? I've been abit insta shy this month due to other priorities, but I have been sewing a trio of sporty gear with a turquoise snakeskin lycia knit given to me as part of the @minervadotcom #minervabrandambassador team. Lots of details on my profile on their website. I am going to enter this into the #magamjovialjune for this months #magamsewalong brought to us by @suestoney @sewing_in_spain and guest @sarahcsewing as I get so much joy when I try something new and different like this fabric which has a coating on and feels like a kind of wetsuit/swimsuit and a couple of new patterns. Also I have made a golf outfit combining my two joyful hobbies. I have been trying to be abit more healthy this month and I think the compression shorts may encourage me to try abit harder 😅 I have made the @patternemporium_kate #pesportyloungeskirt a @greenstyle_patterns compression shorts which I hacked to include an elastic waistband and a @jalie_patterns sports top from their active wear pattern. I then made couple of toiles for the bodice part of the @fibremood #jilldress followed by this wearable toile which I really quite like and have started another in a fabulous cotton sateen.
