Since this summer heat didn't switch on until mid-July, I needed a few easy pieces to layer over tanks and such. I kept reaching for an older GACC, but I wanted closures. I had picked out some metal snaps, but I was worried the weight would make them droop. I dug around to find my old Kam snaps from making my boys bibs, and they're perfect! This is my make nine 2023. I found this easy, and yet difficult too. I know I want to make a pouf. More bags. Finish my patchwork jacket. I’ve literally only attached a few squares so far. The Lotta dress was leftover from last years make nine. I’d like to make a coat. Probably a long coat. I was going to add a shirt of some kind. Instead I’ve added the Ogden Cami. Totally opposite! I’ve settled for a mix and match of what I fancy making and what I’d like to wear etc. I’m finding I’m loving non clothes making projects too. Is this supposed to be any makes or just clothes? After reading other posts, I agree that it’s more the skills I’m wanting to perfect. Like I’d like to make clothes with zips, button holes. Get the fit right. Make clothes that will suit me. Will still be in my wardrobe for years to come. Tomorrow marks two years since I bought my Janome sewing machine to try and see if I was capable of making clothes. Understanding instructions etc. 2 years later, I’m on my second sewing machine. My Pfaff is so much better and makes sewing a lot more enjoyable. I’ve also invested in an overlocker and a fabric stash that him indoors keeps saying is big enough! No more fabric purchases. So now, I want to build on what’s gone before. I really enjoyed sewing this pattern by @patternemporium_kate which is the Grab A Cuppa cardigan 🥰! This was the very first cardigan I decided to sew and I am very pleased I chose this one (I believe I saw Liz @thebakerthatsews version and fell in love with it straight away - if you don't know her YouTube channel definitely give it a go, she is great!). The pattern instructions are very easy to follow and the only advice I would give you is to baste whenever you are asked to do so 😅! The only thing for me is that it took me twice as long as I had to overlock my edges with my sewing machine 😔 I think I know already what I want for next Christmas 😆... I am very pleased about how my cardigan looks like on the inside so was well worth it 😤 I could not recommend this pattern enough and I am already planning to make my next version 🥰🥰🥰 A friend at work loved it - she asked me if she could try it in the office and asked me if I could make her one 🙈 I am not sure I am ready yet to sew for adults so will stick with my friends babies and kids for now 😬! For some reason, I'm only looking to my right on these pics 😅. This is my second version of the #grabacuppacardi from @patternemporium_kate, and it is a pattern that I highly recommend if you are a beginner! The instructions are great, and this time, I've lengthened it all the way, and it feels like a summer coatigan almost 🥰 - I love this version and will be making more for sure! For the matching headband, I hacked the headband instructions from @julietuzor_ book "You will be able to sew your own clothes by the end of this book" - which is a great beginner sewing book as well 🤗! A very quick and easy sewing project which was all my brain could take at the time 😅 I know myself a lot more as a sewist now and there are just days when my brain is not having it so these quick sews are ideal! Or no sewing at all and TV on 😬 I never force anything as that would definitely kill the sewjo 🤓. I forgot to share this make. It’s the Pattern Emporium grab a cuppa cardi. I’ve wanted to make this cardigan for a while now. It’s one of my make nine. I’ve made it in a black cable knit fabric. The same type of fabric I made a TATB Nora cardigan in a while ago. I got this fabric from @poundfabrics last year. The pattern comes in 3 lengths. I chose to make the hip length version. I know the pattern is an oversized style. So I sized down to a 12. Even then it was huge. So I took a few cm’s out of the side seams. I’ve no idea now what size I’d make, if I made it again. I’d say an 8 possibly. As and when I revisit this make I’ll get the tape measure out and measure my cardigan. I’m determined to get my sizing right. I wanted to use big buttons. And didn’t have a set. So I chose odd buttons that I already had. I do like this look. For some reason the top button doesn’t sit properly. So I’ve removed it. And to be honest, I don’t need that button. I’m not a big fan of black near my face. I think it washes me out. Of course it would have been good to know this before I bought the fabric! So this will be worn around the house.

I forgot to share this make. It’s the Pattern Emporium grab a cuppa cardi. I made it a coupe of years ago. And haven’t really worn it. Made from a waffle fabric that came in a Felicity Fabrics surprise box. The cardigan was a bit big around the waistband area. I had an idea to cut slits into each end of the back band and insert elastic. Luckily the fabric was great for this. I sewed the elastic in at east end and sewed the cut sections closed. Not that you see the back of the cardigan, but it’s pretty invisible. To bring it in a bit. I think it’s worked ok.

It’s Saturday! It’s been a good Saturday too. I realised the other day that I haven’t shared a photo of my @patternemporium_kate grab a cuppa cardigan that I made in collaboration with the lovely @notes_from_the_sewing_room We worked on the project months ago but I just didn’t get around to taking photos. Then the other day I was looking for the perfect cardigan to go with my finished @fridaypatterncompany sagebrush top and the peach colour worked nicely with the vibrant rainbow print. The rib knit fabric was from @abakhanfabrics I paired the sagebrush and cardigan with my ever faithful @annaallenclothing Persephone pants made in Choco denim from @felicity.fabrics - I wear these trousers all the time! I am having a deeply, deeply insecure #memademay2025 day today. For a moment I thought about just not posting any of the pictures (the ones that actually MADE the cut). But why? Am I svelte and beautiful? No. Am I wearing a single shred of makeup? Also no. But I made this entire outfit, darn it, and it DESERVES to be counted in Me Made May. Because in the end, is it about what we look like, or is it about the work we put in to what we made? Pants: #nuslejoggers from @itchtostitch I love this pattern. They are my only successful pants so far. I have also made two pairs for my daughter. She lives in them. I plan to make so many more pairs of these. T-shirt: #wardrobebuildertee from Wardrobe By Me. This was my first version. Cardigan: #pegrabacuppacardi from Pattern Emporium. This was unplanned, but I am bad at fabric buying. "How much French terry do I need to make joggers for both myself and my daughter?" I asked. "3 yards each" was what I decided because that's my standard amount for pants. It was, in fact, way too much. So I made the cardigan. And I hated it so much I didn't even put buttons on it. And then I started reaching for it every single time it got chilly in the house and now...I kind of like it? The back is the graphic from a band t-shirt that I bought that never fit well, but I loved it too much to not use it somewhere. Anyway, this is me. I am more than the sum of my external parts. I am smart and talented and I'm told I'm funny, although I've also been told I'm boring so I guess I have to decide who to believe. I'm going to keep showing up, unfiltered, unapologetic, unashamed. Since this summer heat didn't switch on until mid-July, I needed a few easy pieces to layer over tanks and such. I kept reaching for an older GACC, but I wanted closures.
