I've had this pattern since @patternemporium_kate released it back in October and finally got round to printing it as soon as I received this amazing double gauze from @northernmonkeymakes . Finally finished my Pattern Emporium Take The Chance dress in this beautiful rayon from Spotlight. My machine is in the shop to fix the buttonhole feature which isn’t working properly and I had to wait until I visited my Mum and could use her machine instead. ❤️ the finished product. Working on my spring wardrobe: this is the Take the Chance Shirt Dress by @patternemporium_kate I used a double gauze from @joann_stores Size 6 in the shoulders grading to a size 8 in the chest but overall it’s a little too big. I would make a straight size 4 next time. I chose the short wide sleeve and regular mini length. I added belt loops at the sides. At first I wasn’t crazy about this make because it looks too oversized but I like it with a belt. This is in green and pink (with dark grey) lightweight cotton that was my souvenir from our Hobart holiday last year, when I was lucky enough to just make the physical shop of @applepip_project before it went to online format. Shelby Dress Hack. The first 'wearable toile' of the Shelby needed a lot of 'finessing' to get it to fit. This time I 'hacked' it! I copied my basic darted bodice and converted to a shoulder princess style. I placed over the original Shelby panels and then to make sure it was nothing like the original added the collar and front button placket from the PE Take the Chance dress. 3 metres of ditsy floral print viscose came from Rainbow Fabrics. The fabric has good drape, will be lovely to wear in late Spring/Summer - provided the alterations work! I placed the yoke and back bodice over the Shelby pattern pieces and cut around them. I cut the centre front panel at the waist line so that the button placket only goes that far. The remainder of the centre panel could have been cut on the fold but I did not think of that until later! For a toile with fabric this fine I made full use of the overlocker. I started with the sleeves, hems were overlocked, double turned and top stitched in place. I constructed the tie belts on the overlocker and used my 'wonder turning tool. I had to stitch the centre back and centre front panels at the shoulders so that I could complete the collar and placket construction. Next was my first fitting - the shoulders were going to be about 2 inches too wide. I took in the excess on the panel seams, grading back to the original seamline. 5 buttonholes and by way of a change from shell buttons, this time I used some self-covered buttons in White they look just like Mint Imperial sweets! I finished sewing the side front, side back panels and side seams so that I could insert the sleeves. Once that was done I completed the hem with overlocking before double turn and top stitching in place. Conclusion: I am delighted with the completed dress and will now copy out a 'master' pattern onto clean white paper. I can't wait to make another dress in this style and will call it 'Charlotte' as it bears no resemblance to the original Shelby! #shelbyhack #petakethechance #viscosedress #rainbowfabrics #sewover50plus #sewover50 #sewover50dresses #sewover70

Recently finished #petakethechance shirtdress with pockets (of course) and waist ties. Bottom tier cut on the cross grain to make use of the border running down one selvedge. Fabric from @fabworksmillshop. It was their fabric of the month in April, I'm not hugely in love with it. Creases as soon as you look at and difficult to iron. Think this will look like a dishrag before I even leave the house. I used the 'zigzag over a thin cord' method to gather the tiers - very effective. And finally! A few posts ago I detailed a dress that I had made but then had a mishap when overlocking the sleeve seams and managed to cut off one of the points of the collar. I recalled that many years ago one could buy decorative metal clips for evening shirts etc. A quick search on Amazon and eBay revealed these beauties. I am delighted that they fit the bill exactly and have the effect of lifting what was a fairly bland dress into something different and unique. Working on my spring wardrobe: this is the Take the Chance Shirt Dress by @patternemporium_kate I used a double gauze from @joann_stores Size 6 in the shoulders grading to a size 8 in the chest but overall it’s a little too big. I would make a straight size 4 next time. I chose the short wide sleeve and regular mini length. I added belt loops at the sides. At first I wasn’t crazy about this make because it looks too oversized but I like it with a belt. And finally! A few posts ago I detailed a dress that I had made but then had a mishap when overlocking the sleeve seams and managed to cut off one of the points of the collar. I recalled that many years ago one could buy decorative metal clips for evening shirts etc. A quick search on Amazon and eBay revealed these beauties. I am delighted that they fit the bill exactly and have the effect of lifting what was a fairly bland dress into something different and unique. It’s by @patternemporium - The fabric was from Abakhan, and immediately I saw it I knew that was exactly the vibe I wanted. I made it with the long tier at the top and the next two tiers are the short depth. I looked at lots of the testers versions to find out exactly how I wanted mine. It’s such a handy resource!
