I've been looking forward to trying this pattern since the start of the year.. not only am I really into oversized shirts, which are everywhere at the moment, but the variety of views in this particular pattern was exciting. I hadn't tried anything from @patternemporium_kate previously, but after making this shirt, I can confidently say I can see myself purchasing future patterns from Kate. Instructions are very clear with photos and easy to follow. The fabric I chose for this project was far left from my usual neutral/natural tones.. I am usually not drawn to bold colourful fabric like this, but when I saw it in Spotlight, it gave me strong Gorman vibes... which I like. The new @patternemporium_kate Ocean Daze makes for a great dress, too. I switched to the more open, casual camp collar on this one. I also skipped buttonholes and sewed buttons directly on both plackets since experience has taught me challis doesn't love to be messed with. Last of my holiday makes….feels like a distant memory 😖 I wanted something very casual to wear over my swimsuit on holiday but also something that could be worn over shorts and a vest or even on its own as a dress! The #PEOceanDaze from @patternemporium_kate came up trumps so I quickly got it printed and made up before I went away! It’s a very oversized shirt so I downsized one size and also added 4 inches to the length after hearing feedback on how high the side seam was 😜 I used this gorgeous viscose fabric that I got in my #ThinkPink sewscription box from @beyond.thepinkdoor as I thought it literally screamed holiday. Another Christmas gift - an oversized shirt for my sister. Pattern: Ocean Daze Very Oversized Shirt by @patternemporium_kate #PEOceanDaze #PEOceanDazeShirt Fabric: lightweight cotton blend (maybe tencel?) from @drapersfabrics Clear Buttons from @buttonmaniac This was my first experience making button up cuffs and they worked out nicely! The collar instructions were excellent and I am so happy with how that turned out! It is a very oversized pattern (as promised in its name) but I also made a size or two bigger than my sister’s size as I made a few for people in my family at once (including myself) and I made them all the same size because I’m lazy like that. 🤪 I envisioned this as a really handy top for wearing to the beach but it hasn’t been good beach weather yet. Maybe next week.

Now that the weather is starting to cool down in Brisbane, I can start pulling out last winter's makes and getting some use out of them again. Side note: the Peg Legs are a free pattern, have varying lengths and two different waist heights in the one pattern. This is the first pattern by @patternemporium_kate that I’ve sewn up, and I have to say, this is probably the most nicely finished shirt I’ve ever made! Pattern: #peoceandaze Fabric: lightweight denim from Minerva. I bought this to make a pair of trousers but, through no fault of Minerva’s, decided it was a bit too lightweight for that once it arrived. Because I wanted an oversized chambray shirt I ended up using the wrong side of this denim as the right side to get the color I wanted. Comments from my husband: “Isn’t it too big?” Since “very oversized” is right in the pattern name, I think I nailed the fit! I made the size I measured into on the size chart but shortened the length by about an inch (a typical adjustment for me, I’m 5’4”). Other sewing notes: Two things I liked about this pattern were 1) the liberal use of basted guidelines. I find it far easier to press in 1cm or whatever if there is a line of basting stitches and do that all the time, so it’s nice to have it right in the pattern. 2) you are clearly warned when a tricky part is coming up, so if you often sew while distracted (aka me every time I sew during my baby’s nap time), it’s a nice warning to pay attention! #sewistsofinstagram #millenialsewing #memade #memadeeveryday #handmadewardrobe

It wasn't too cold and it wasn't raining, so I finally took some pictures of the pieces I already made for my winter capsule! This Canadian Tuxedo-Skirt Edition is very inspired by a full denim ensemble I saw on @happykickss account. I was wondering if this darker wash would work for the denim on denim trend, and once I saw it there (I'll see if I can share the inspiration in my stories), I knew the answer was yes! This light to medium weight denim is from my deep dark stash, so ancient it's origins are unknown. I used the Pattern Emporium Coastal Side Split Skirt and Ocean Daze Very Oversized Shirt patterns to make it and I have been wearing these pieces non-stop, together and mixed with other ones you'll see in the coming days. The shirt is a size 20 and the skirt is size 22 with the slit slightly lowered. I'm happy to report I think both pieces are perfect for maternity and post-partum with no modifications. My latest makes are the two newest patterns from @patternemporium_kate - two styles of button down shirts, both lovely. The Ocean Daze Oversized Shirt is pictured first - oversized fit, drop shoulder, shirt tail hem (option for straight hem in the pattern). Even with the challenging chiffon I used, it sewed up lovely. Second one is the All In Easy Fit and is a classic fit, button down. Perfect in flannel for winters on the farm. Another Christmas gift - an oversized shirt for my sister. Pattern: Ocean Daze Very Oversized Shirt by @patternemporium_kate #PEOceanDaze #PEOceanDazeShirt Fabric: lightweight cotton blend (maybe tencel?) from @drapersfabrics Clear Buttons from @buttonmaniac This was my first experience making button up cuffs and they worked out nicely! The collar instructions were excellent and I am so happy with how that turned out! It is a very oversized pattern (as promised in its name) but I also made a size or two bigger than my sister’s size as I made a few for people in my family at once (including myself) and I made them all the same size because I’m lazy like that. 🤪 I envisioned this as a really handy top for wearing to the beach but it hasn’t been good beach weather yet. Maybe next week.
