#memademay2024 My last entry for #memademay and my first for #sewautumndenim2024 Here I am in my @patternemporium_kate #bemineballoonsleevetop in a lovely drapey linen from Spotlight. On the bottom half is a very frustrating Frankenstein of a skirt! I bought some lovely Lady McElroy stretch denim from @dahlia_sewciety to make the #eleonorepullonjeans by @jalie_patterns However, the fabric didn’t have the required 20% min stretch. I ignored this and sewed them up anyway. I soon found out they were around 2-3 sizes too small for me. 😩 After making a bigger waistband, inserting panels down both sides and converting them into a skirt I managed to save this lovely fabric from the bin. Lesson learnt. With all the recent painting and stitch art I’ve been doing, I did manage to squeeze in some sewing. I’ve had my eye on @_redheadthreads_ flurry of #balloonsleeves tops by @patternemporium_kate and thought I’d like to try something similar. I don’t really suit wide necklines so I drafted a top with a deep and narrow V and added a narrow ’Mandarin’ style collar to it. I used the balloon sleeve pattern piece from the #bemineballoonsleevetop and adjusted it to fit my armhole (longer at the back half for my rounded back/forward shoulder). I’m really happy with the result and the gorgeous light weight linen from @drapersfabrics is a perfect weight fabric for this time of year - in the Southern Hemisphere! I made some alterations to the #bemineballoonsleevetop from @pattern_emporium The alterations I made: I added a back yoke and gathered the lower back, I brought the shoulder seams to the front and widened the front to add gathers at the shoulders and also added a split and ties at center front. I added 2” in length, removed the CF and CB seams and cut the sleeves in the bias. 😎 I love it. Next time I will curve the yoke at each side and add more gathers on the front shoulders. Sewing is a super power! This is my first time using a @PatternEmporium_Kate pattern but it won’t be the last. The #PEBeMineTop has such a beautiful shape and is packed full of options. You can choose from three different necklines, three different hem finishes, height options, as well as three bodice fronts, two have full bust adjustments already done for you. —————————————————————-—————- Details - Pattern : BE MINE BALLOON SLEEVE TOP by PATTERN EMPORIUM Sizing 4 - 30 Fit : I chose my sized based on my high bust measurement as per the pattern recommendations. I went with options high neck, hemline facing, regular length and I removed the centre front and centre back seams. I did a small square shoulder adjustment and shortened length by 5cm (which may have been a tad too much 😬) I didn’t need a forward shoulder adjustment which was amazing! I thought about making this pattern for quite a while before I actually got around to it and after I’d finished it I was a bit underwhelmed by it. I have to say, as the weeks have gone by, it’s grown on me, and I would now consider making another. I would make some tweaks to the fit though. Even though I sized for my shoulders according to the fit measurements, and did not use the FBA bodice despite my G cup bust, I feel it’s a bit big. It kind of hangs off my shoulders in a way I am not super happy with. I’ve studied the pictures of many makers who’ve made this and it seems many are all the same. Much more fitted on the designers own photos though and i definitely think it would be a bit nicer for me with a narrower shoulder. Lessons for next time for sure (and yes, I know a muslin would have sorted this out first 🙄) This is my first time sewing Pattern Emporium though so fit nit-picking is inevitable. I was impressed with how much detail had gone into fitting options and necklines. Can we take a moment to appreciate the @patternemporium_kate #bemineballoonsleevetop This is my third version of this top, this time made with a remnant bought from @rainbowfabrickilburn at the @theknittingandstitchingshows in Harrogate last year. I love this pattern it’s such a fun make and so easy to wear, dress it up or dress it down! There are lots of things I love about the pattern, you get three neckline options and there are so many details that you can choose to include or omit. All 3 of my versions have been in quite graphic prints so I’ve gone for the straightforward no centre seam with a hem for tucking. I managed to nab a small piece of this fabric before it sold out very quickly! I quite quickly decided it would be this top without stopping to really factor in the size of the sleeves. I love big sleeves, my man oh man, they sure use up a lot of fabric. This one needed more than just a bit of pattern Tetris and if you look closely you’ll see I have a seam running up the centre of each sleeve. I used the mid neckline and no facing at the hem. This is my first attempt at this Blouse and I'm pretty happy with it. It was really nice to make a top that didn't need a lot of different fit adjustments and I like that there isn't a lot of volume in the body of this top. I've made a few lately that needed to be taken in because the fabric drowned me. I've been very thoughtful in the choice of fabrics I'm using. I'm trying to not get caught up with trends or pretty fabrics that will date and won't get the wear they deserve. This simple black rayon will go with a lot of future makes. Though I would love another with a little more colour. Fabric Possibly from Lincraft or Eastcoast Fabrics. It was in my stash. Alterations Narrow shoulder adjustment 1 inch The neckline was too wide so I bought it in by 1cm. Sleeves I graded from 20 at the armhole to a 16 at the cuff I fitted the cuff my own way to reduce bulk. Next time Finish the sleeve seam then fit the binding at the wrist to reduce bulk Take an inch out of the length of the sleeve. I refer to these #landerpants as my cardboard pants 😂, the cotton drill felt quite crunchy when I first made them but they’ve soften a bit with wear thank goodness. I’m happy enough with the fit, not bad for a wearable toile, no they’re not “perfect”, there’s still a couple of issues to work out, but they’re comfy and fit better than a lot of my RTW pants. ___________________________________________ Pattern : #landerpants (cropped length & zip front version) by @truebias Fit : I started with a 6 as per my hip measurement but ended up sewing my side seams at a size 2. I added a wedge to the top of each side seam into nothing at CF & CB, I also found a curved waistband worked best for me. Next time I’ll add a more to the wedge at the top right hand side seam and add a bit to the back crotch. another pair of @daughterjudypatterns #coetrouser jeans! the trouser fabric is too thin for winter, though it was advertised as „14 oz jeans“- its actually see through. i still did sew it up 💀 the shop blocked me now because i criticised the state it arrived in: holes & lots of weird stains that didnt come out in the wash. i feel „deadstock“ shops are sprouting out everywhere and people are accepting its shite fabric because they „saved the world“ by buying it up. a real designer deadstock quality is probably ok. This is my second entry for the #SewAprilBlouse25 challenge! This is the ‘Be Mine Balloon Sleeve Top’ by @patternemporium_kate , made in this most sumptuous floral poly satin from @stitch_fabric1 . This fabric is really interesting - vivid green satin flowers floating over a sheer hot pink background — but wow, it was a slippery little devil to sew! Much swearing occurred! After a few hours of battling with machine settings (and a lot of patience!), I finally got there and it was so worth it. Another winner for my wardrobe 🥰 Overall I love the roominess of this top - always love a statement sleeve - great pattern overall. I initially published this post on 2nd December, but I checked my account now and it's gone! So here we go again: My life is a bit hectic at the moment, with extra challanges in all areas and while still dealing with the aftermath of the 7th of October masscare and it's implications. Luckily there are a lot of good and joyful things happening around me too. Friends and communities coming together and lots of festive events happening. Two events are linked to this post: my birthday party a few weeks ago and a Christmas party with my friends from my old work team. Some of my friends have gifted me with a very generous gift voucher to use at the Fabric Godmother. It's one of my favourite fabric shops that mostly trades online but they do open their warehouse to the public once every three months. I am very lucky to live fairly local to them so I popped in to buy myself some lovely fabrics. I made this blouse using a beautiful viscose satin fabric, that was woven with some gold lurex fibers. The lurex makes this fabric look like a shifty liquid metallic gorgeousness, but still keeps is relatively subtle. I abselutly love this fabric and I am so happy that Josie from FG helped me choose the right colour. I made the blouse for the early Christmas party with my old team from work and it was comfortable and beautiful! 🪡 🧵 This set is my wearable muslins of both garments. I will wear it mostly to work; however I think I could definitely wear the top with jeans as well. I made no fit adjustment to the pattern before making them. Top: Pattern Emporium Be Mine Ballon Sleeve Top. Straight Size 12. No center front seam, wide hem band version. Only modification was eliminating the back button opening. This fabric was a silky type poly? I got from clearance at Joann. While I love the look of the finished garment. It did not want to hold a press to save my life. So it made it alittle difficult to work with. On my next version, i want to lengthen it slightly like maybe 1/2 to 3/4 inch and I also plan to grade up a size at the hips to give me more ease as there is very little (like maybe 1 1/2 inch currently). I want to see if this will reduce or eliminate the pooling in the lower back. I do have a sway back but I want to see if more room in the hips will fix it before I make a sway back adjustment. I’m prepared to make several versions to get the fit right since I love the look of this top very much! @patternemporium_kate #pebeminetop #beminetop Bottoms: Style Arc Parker Ponte pants straight size 12. Elastic was cut for a size 14. I saw this tip on Whitney at Tomkat Stitchery @tomkatstitcherycarmel when she made her Parker pontes in a sew-along. I used black ponte that I got from fabric Wholesale Direct. I really did like this ponte and have purchased more since. These don’t come with front pockets which is kind of a bummer as I would like to find a great fitting basic work ponte pant with pockets. I also just trimmed some length then turned up and hemmed with my coverstitch instead of cuffing them. Overall, I really like these a lot especially for just black pants for work and church and could see myself making other pairs eventually. @stylearc #parkerpontepants

Thinking of my sewing plans for 2024: it’s going to be a year dedicated to self-care, reflection, and healing. Life threw its challenges at me in 2023, battling health issues, loss, and distance. So this year, I'm giving myself the gift of time – time to heal, perhaps embark on some home renovations, and of course keep the connection with my craft, albeit a little quieter this year. Sewing is my sanctuary, and it’s certainly provided a welcome escape for me this past year.   I have therefore crafted my #MakeNine2024 challenge to sew some items that have been in the pipeline for quite some time.  If I don’t get them done, I’m not going to stress. My second version of the very gorgeous Be Mine blouse from @patternemporium_kate. It's just a stunning design. I paired it with my Coastal Side Split Skirt. I skipped the back center seam and used the lowest of three necklines for this one. I was happy to pull this yardage from the special pile and us it up! This is a cotton sateen, very lightweight voile-like fabric, only 44" wide. I was able to get this blouse from 2 yards, but the back hem facing is cut opposite the grain. Shh. Last bad hotel mirror selfie of the year! And some wild hair as I’ve just rolled out of bed and thrown on clothes to head to the airport to fly home. This is one of my two @patternemporium_kate Be Mine tops with the balloon sleeve option. I’m thinking of sewing up another one with a bias binding neck instead of a facing, mostly because I’m trying to improve my bias binding game and could use the practice. Fabric is a custom print from @hawthornesupplyco in a heavier weight linen. I like it but I need to wash it a dozen more times to soften it up. I love all the custom print options at Hawthorne - if you aren’t familiar with them I highly recommend to check them out. My last entry into #sewaprilblouse24 is the Be Mine top by Pattern Emporium and I just love the sleeves. The fabric was purchased from a little shop in Fethiye Turkiye last year. I am thinking of altering the bottom and making a casing to put elastic through but it's only a possibility. As with all PE patterns it came together really easy. This is my first time using a @PatternEmporium_Kate pattern but it won’t be the last. The #PEBeMineTop has such a beautiful shape and is packed full of options. You can choose from three different necklines, three different hem finishes, height options, as well as three bodice fronts, two have full bust adjustments already done for you. —————————————————————-—————- Details - Pattern : BE MINE BALLOON SLEEVE TOP by PATTERN EMPORIUM Sizing 4 - 30 Fit : I chose my sized based on my high bust measurement as per the pattern recommendations. I went with options high neck, hemline facing, regular length and I removed the centre front and centre back seams. I did a small square shoulder adjustment and shortened length by 5cm (which may have been a tad too much 😬) I didn’t need a forward shoulder adjustment which was amazing! This fabric was in my Dream Wardrobe parcel this month, I didn't feel the blouse pattern was quite right for me but I loved the material and knew it would be perfect for this blouse 🍓 Tall length, hem band I have loved every stitch of this amazing pattern, the instructions are spot on! Are you a pattern hacker? I find myself experimenting a bit more now that I’ve amassed quite a few patterns & sometimes achieving the style I’m after just involves a bit of tweaking. Pattern: #SAZaliaWovenTop and the #PEBeMineTop sleeves. When I saw Sue’s version of the Be Mine top I fell in love with the sleeves, but wanted it in a V neck . It was Sue ( @modelled_by_madge ) who came up with the idea of the sleeve mash-up🥰 Skirt is the #CloBiasSkirt ( previously posted) & worn in the last pic with my #SAAdelaideJacket ( also prev posted) in boiled wool as I am going out to lunch and it’s still winter here!! Fabric: I used the beautiful Bedford linen by @Tessutifabrics . The shade is called ‘pond ‘ ( a more green than blue shade that is so hard to photograph). This range of linen is so fabulous. Fitting: I cut the size 10 . Me Made May Day 12 This was on my 'to fix' pile, which I thought I had fixed, but I think I've made it worse. The neck facing would always pop out when I'm wearing it. Yes, I have under-stitched and sewn the facing down at the shoulder seams. I've tried sewing it down with top stitching at 1inch, but it look odd and sticks out now. Hoping I can unpick without damage and hand sew it down. I should have done this for the first time as the wide hem facing is handstitched and works. Oh well, should be a quick-ish fix if the unpicked is on my side! I’m in love with this blouse. I purchase material online through @spotlightstores and when it arrived I knew I had to pair it with the #patternemporium be mine pattern. This is my first Pattern Emporium pattern and it was so effortlessly easy and came up brilliantly. I’ve got a pair of grey work pants that this top matches with perfectly. I will be making another one of these in a black floral material to match my black work pants. I did use the low neckline to start with but it was too wide and I had to redo it. I sized down one size from my measurements and took an inch off the sleeves. Last bad hotel mirror selfie of the year! And some wild hair as I’ve just rolled out of bed and thrown on clothes to head to the airport to fly home. This is one of my two @patternemporium_kate Be Mine tops with the balloon sleeve option. I’m thinking of sewing up another one with a bias binding neck instead of a facing, mostly because I’m trying to improve my bias binding game and could use the practice. Fabric is a custom print from @hawthornesupplyco in a heavier weight linen. I like it but I need to wash it a dozen more times to soften it up. I love all the custom print options at Hawthorne - if you aren’t familiar with them I highly recommend to check them out. My sewing friends and I have had some interesting debates about the merits of the balloon sleeve on the @patternemporium_kate Be Mine top. Personally, I love the sleeves, but I think the fabric weight makes a big difference. I made mine in a cotton lawn, so the sleeves aren’t so overwhelming.
