Just finished my third #PELongWeekendTankDress! 👗💖 Initially, this was the type of fabric I had envisioned for a tank dress like this, but I got side-tracked with my two other dresses (oops! 🤪) …. see previous posts. It’s so great to be able to sew your own clothes, especially when store-bought tank dresses don’t quite fit right. 🧵💁♀️
I learned some lessons along the way with this one – fabrics behave differently! Check out my pattern notes below for the details. Despite the effort, I’m happy with the final result. Next time, maybe a less fitted pattern for this fabric! 😊
Pattern: #PELongWeekendDress from @PatternEmporium_Kate
Fabric: Minerva Core Range Organic Tubular Ribbing Stretch Knit Fabric from @MinervaDotCom
Pattern notes:
* Used tubular ribbing from @MinervaDotCom (cotton elastane – OEKO-TEX, GOTS certified) with good horizontal stretch, but only 20% vertical stretch.
* Graded from size 10 bodice to size 12 hips, but the limited vertical stretch caused pulling over hips and butt.
* 7mm seam allowance worked well for serging but tricky for sizing adjustments. Used sewing machine with a scant 3-4mm seam allowance for a bit more room. Eek!!
* Back has 2 pattern pieces, easy for shaping. Did a 2.5cm sway back; considered darts but skipped. Looked OK.
* Neck and arm bindings were perfect, thanks to ribbing’s properties.
* Happy with the dress, but won’t use cotton rib knit in this weight for this style again. The pattern calls for a more drapey fabric. The fabric is great for bindings or a loose sweater though.
