Trust me when I say I’m not usually this girly in my dressing. Well, not since I stopped working and after the kids came along. Now, that is close to 2 decades long. . Before the #PEEasyDoesItSkirt test came along, I had already sewed up the camisole top because it would be the perfect pairing with my shorts in the unbearable heat that Singapore is. There was about 1.25m left of this fabric, and when Kate offered the Midi length, it felt like an opportunity to sew up the remnant of this gorgeous Frutteria Bleu rayon by @katarinaroccella for @artgalleryfabrics. With some serious fabric tetris, I used up every single bit to barely hit the Regular Midi length. I actually already have a dress in this fabric, but I took over @mindfully_making’s piece when she destashed hers. At that point, I hadn’t even sewn that first dress! Talk about hoarding 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 . So, here’s me embracing yet another different style of dressing. Totally girly. But first up, I need to go get me new strapless bra 😆😆 . . Deets: Easy Does It Skirt from @patternemporium_kate Similar to my blue viscose denim skirt from previous post, I measure at the upper end of size 12, half sized down by taking in 1” for the back skirt. I just folded the back skirt piece in by 1/2” at centerfold. Because this is rayon, I took in a teeny bit more by cutting between 10 & 12 for the front piece as well for this skirt. As mentioned, this is Midi Regular length (I’m 164cm in height). . Tank: Low Key Cami Top, also from Pattern Emporium My usual size 8, but my measurements fall closer to 10. . This is my second of the three final projects of 2024! It’s the @sewoveritlondon #soihettiedress. This was my first attempt and it’s ended up as a wearable toile. I wore it with some excellent @snagtights #snagbonechina #snagletitsnow tights with sparkly snowflakes but didn’t get a proper picture. The final picture is the tights but with my #peeasydoesitskirt. Overall I’m really pleased with it and it came together very easily. I just made the size for my bust but the shoulders are a bit too broad. I don’t have any parties coming up in the near future but when I make this again (which I’m sure I will), I’ll either size down with a FBA or I’ll do a narrow shoulder adjustment. This is my first #sewoveritlondon woven pattern although I’ve got quite a few more planned for 2025! This brought #Whole30FabricChallenge2024 running total to 18.9m. I finished my @patternemporium_kate #EasyDoesItSkirt and absolutely love it 💙 I seem to be having a blue period with a nod to nautical at the minute. The fabric is a Viscose I picked up a few months ago from my local @sewjoyful_uk sewing shop, it was an impulse buy, didn't have anything in mind, just loved the look and kind of crinkly light feel it had. Love the neat flat front waist and how all the ease is in the back with the comfort of elastic, I was worried I had cut it too small but the ease in the back makes it perfect. I love how the little patch pockets give a focal point on this dazzling fabric and I was greedy so added the inseam ones too. This is the tall tee length with splits, there are so many options I think it will be a much used pattern, it feels so lovely to wear. This is my OOTD for #MeMadeMay25 along with another memade necklace, bracelet and earrings from many years ago and a much loved rtw denim top I have had for over 30 years, I like to incorporate my favourite bought clothes into my memades so everything gets worn and not wasted. Maybe it is age catching up, but I am finding myself wanting to change my style a wee bit. For one, I never did fancy wearing long skirts, but I find a different kind of comfort in them these days. . The new skirt from @patternemporium_kate that I tested for hits many right spots for me. It lives up to its name and sews up very quickly. But for me, I dig the side splits of this design, while being A-line. I like it for its flirtatious sway (pic 3). I also like that the skirt is flat front, which is different from the usual gathered skirt look that is typical of elastic skirts. . I made a matching top to create a faux dress look if I tuck it in. But I kinda like the look tucked out, too (swipe to last pic). Better maybe? Which do you think looks better? . Here’s the first #milaonni_danae by @milaonnipatterns. I sewed as my toile — might be helpful for anyone considering sizing down. I went two sizes down and it still fits with a good amount of ease. If you’re pear-shaped like me, though, definitely consider grading out at the hips. ⁠. For this version, the flounce is fuller compared to my beige Swiss dots one (see previous post), where I shortened it by 5cm. The pattern gives you both options depending on the final look you’re after. . I’ve two more possible entries for #Sew2Celebrate2 both are self drafted from my blocks made from Helen Rhiannon’s book #dressmakingtheeasyguide @all_sewn_up_wales . The first is a dress with a princess seam bodice, circle skirt and elasticated cuff sleeves. The fabric is 100% cotton from @rainbowfabrickilburn and is double width. I’ve used 2m of it. The second is a tunic top I drafted inspired by the box pleat dress by the assembly line. I tried doing a bias binding neckline but it isn’t the neatest. I think I trimmed too much so it made it too wide on the right side and I should have clipped the neckline better. I used 1m of the double wide fabric. I’ve a scrap left that I’m going to make a small Japanese knot bag with from a free pattern I got in a magazine years ago! I might have enough for a scrunchie but I’ll need to grow my hair out a bit to make use of it. 😆 This is my second make this month from my stash as part of my 2 from stash a month.
