Of course the day my new blouse is finished and I'm ready to take photos is the one cloudy day in a week. Anyway, it's finished! I love this pattern, it's the Ngaoi Blouse by Scroop Patterns and I think it's just such a flattering and interesting cut. It's got a sort of thirties Girl Friday vibe. I graded up the pattern one size from the waist up and two sizes at the hips. I think that worked pretty well. Serving some 1930's hard-bitten woman reporter realness is the Ngaio Blouse from #scrooppatterns I made this blouse partially just to test the fit of the pattern with some leftover fabric, but it came out well. I don't have a bottom to go with it, but I'm thinking why shouldn't I make a midi skirt in lightweight aubergine wool. Possibly the best written pattern I've ever used. #memademay2020 Day 4: And I’m back on my wovens. The top is a @scrooppatterns #ngaioblouse that I love but isn’t sitting quite right now. The jeans (which only lasted until lunch, when I changed into stretchy pants) are #gingerjeans with teal top stitching from at least 5 years ago; I’ve since sized out of the pattern and trying to deal with making another pair and grading just sounds unfun, and getting a new jeans pattern sounds equally tiring. The cardigan is RTW and at least 7 years old; at some point, I really ought to sew myself some cardigans, but I never seem to find the right fabric for them. . #memademay2020 Day 7 (for me, since I’m only doing workdays and am down to one half time job): Closet Case Ginger Jeans, a very faded black (maybe I should try dyeing it?) @scrooppatterns #ngaioblouse made from fabric from the @textilecentermn fabric garage sale, and a topper made from a tutorial that I’ve since forgotten about. I woke up this morning and absolutely did not want to get dressed, so I went into the storage room and got my summer clothes out, which are now strewn all over my bed. And I haven’t put my winter clothes away. But goodness, it’s nice to see the summer clothes again. . I don’t love summer; for me in my field, it tends to just mean exhaustion from endless programming and guilt as an Outdoor Professional for not enjoying the warm weather and all of its accompanying activities because of said exhaustion. I love the work I get to do! But it’s hard to leave time to breathe in summer. But summer clothes are nice, and summer will probably look different this year. . #mmmayplus2020 #tcsewists

I’m not really doing #memademay2019 but I keep hoping to carve enough time out that I can use for sewing that I’d have enough clothes in my closet that I could participate one day. Next year perhaps. But since this is likely the last time this month I will wear this top I have to share it - it’s a current favorite of mine! It’s a #scrooppatterns Ngiao top made out of a jersey rather than a woven. You get both the posed on the patio shot, and the bathroom mirror selfie at work since I had to go in for a bit today. Cutting my #ngaioblouse By @scrooppatterns I have had to use creative cutting techniques to cut the sleeve, but l finally can cut it from this lovely linen l had in my stash. It is summer here in Australia and will suit the hot days we have been having. Did you know that the Ngaio Blouse has two namesakes: a person and a plant! It’s named after Ngaio Marsh, the famed mystery novelist who was one of the "Queens of Crime", along with Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Margery Allingham. It’s also named after the ngaio tree, Myoporum laetum. ’Laetum’ means cheerful, pleasant or bright. The glossy leaves and pretty white flowers with their tiny red dots are a very pleasant sight indeed in the bush - especially as the leaves can be rubbed on your skin to repel mozzies and sandflies. I've been sewing lately. I love the #ngaioblouse from @scrooppatterns (influenced by all the Golden Age mysteries I've been reading). It came out so nicely! Orange is my test, blue stripes the second. I expect there will be more. 36 top to 38 waist/hips, smaller bust size. I love that it can look special and it's comfortable (once I adjust to a closer fit woven shirt than I'm used to). Both fabrics are cotton, fairly light and soft, yarn-dyed.

Been sewing Ngaio Blouses and Fantail Skirts for a mini capsule wardrobe for the new school year. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I think I need to see if I still have the last bits of this skirt fabric, so I can retrofit it with pockets. I’m not really doing #memademay2019 but I keep hoping to carve enough time out that I can use for sewing that I’d have enough clothes in my closet that I could participate one day. Next year perhaps. But since this is likely the last time this month I will wear this top I have to share it - it’s a current favorite of mine! It’s a #scrooppatterns Ngiao top made out of a jersey rather than a woven. Steaming corner redux! After a few test runs I realized I needed a couple of changes: a wider area and a bar to use to hang long trousers or a dress over. Done! The video shows why I switched over to steaming. This is the #scroopNgaio top, and the center front detail does not do well at all with an iron: try and get near the folds and the knot and you just make more wrinkles (especially with this very fussy rayon), but they steam out much easier.
